25.01.2022 The Godfather of Soul, James Brown, by artist Everett Spruill.

24.01.2022 SOUL : Here's a snippet of "Nighttime Is The Right Time" by Ray Charles from a year or two ago.. Unfortunately, the horn section is not an ideal mix to fully ap...preciate its dynamics. However, the mighty Grand WaZoo has enjoyed numerous Sold Out shows, and as 2021 looms we hope to get our groove on and be back giving you'll a fantastic time. The band is now available for forward bookings/engagements for big stage events, festivals and socially distanced concerts -after Covid-19 cleared the slate - just PM us at @grandwazoosoul and Let The Good Times Roll! 21.01.2022 VALE my great friend and master showman, the incomparable MAX MERRITT. I first saw him at the Thumpin' Tum when I was 15, and then many times more; before performing once or twice with his great band [in Stewie Speers days]. Then our relationship really consolidated when his manager Wal asked me to arrange horns for some of his songs and the Grand WaZoo played many prestige shows with him, rehearsing at the Rainbow, and culminating in his 40th Anniversary Show and Album with WaZoo horns and singers. After he moved to the US we kept in touch and had plans to meet up in LA....but he has Slipped Away... Rest In Peace, Man! You did Great! And thanks for the memories. Condolences to Wal, The Meteors and to Max's daughter and family at this sad time

20.01.2022 Wishing GW's lead trumpet, Mat Jodrell a very Happy Birthday today, July 22 and good times ahead! Love Ya Work Man!

20.01.2022 Dear Music Lovers, 13 piece Grand WaZoo returns to perform on February 27, 2021, at Memo Music Hall, St Kilda. With pre-Covid audience numbers restricted at the venue and band costs involved, there may be 2 x separate shows, each running over an hour, so two audience sittings may be possible. If the audience numbers can increase, The Kings of Soul may be able to give you more, but either way, we look forward to entertain you again in this new Covid-normal setting - and would love your company! Tickets are LIMITED at this time, so early bookings are recommended! Let The Good Times Roll!

18.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIrDET4Kn8U Flashback: In February 1985, legendary US Soul duo, SAM & DAVE toured Australia. GRAND WAZOO, (briefly rebadged as Reverend Blues...) was invited to back them for their Live Shows in Melbourne, with my arrangements. One evening a set was recorded on a basic cassette, and this is one of the songs, WRAP IT UP featuring SAM MOORE on Lead Vocals with the band. A week later, Sam & Dave's Management asked me to go to the US to become their MD, but by then, I'd had a decade of insecure touring gigs and dodgy agents and had just landed a secure music teaching job, so was reluctant to uproot again. But it was a flattering offer at the time.

15.01.2022 Whatever happened to all the TV variety shows, where bands like "Grand WaZoo-Kings of Soul" could entertain the wider public intermittently: Hey Hey It's Saturd...ay, Good Morning Australia, Midday Show, Denise etc, etc...Those studios had great sound personnel, who could easily present bands large and small, and I wonder what skills are being lost with the dearth of "live to air" opportunities nowadays? This was following a Grand WaZoo performance on Denise show, 1999. See more

12.01.2022 Today [July 23] is BERT NEWTON's 82nd Birthday, and this the the last of many times that Grand WaZoo performed 'live' on GMA. Here is Alvie Lee Johns Jnr, who was in the late palliative stage of cancer, but determined to appear with the band that day, in September 2005. He passed 7 weeks later.
