25.01.2022 Speech Pathology Australia recently announced the winners of this years Book of the Year Awards - some great Christmas present ideas for organised people who are already shopping....

24.01.2022 Online speech session today drawing and practising the sh sound together.

24.01.2022 Its snowing in Stanthorpe and Im not there! Great to see so many photos on Facebook of families out embracing the moment - playing together and building together even though its cold and dark!

22.01.2022 I dont know who enjoys playing Cariboo more - me or the kids. This accompaniment to Where is the Green Sheep? was super fast to make thanks to Lessonpix and a google image search, and today I used it to work on verbs and the sh sound. (and of course waiting and turn taking!)

22.01.2022 This week Aldi are selling picture books by some of my favourite childrens authors for just $4 each! There are titles by Rod Clement, Pamela Allen, Deborah Niland and Julia Donaldson, just to name a few.

21.01.2022 Amy from Out of the Box Occupational Therapy is expanding her business. Congratulations Amy - this is exciting news for Stanthorpe and surrounds

21.01.2022 The 12th epic Captain Underpants novel has been much awaited in our household. While some people are opposed to the Captain Underpants books because of their offensive content (e.g. reference to underwear, misbehaviour and pranks at school), I love that they get boys excited about reading. Any book that makes it to the morning tea conversation of year 2 boys is worth a look!

20.01.2022 How cool is this? http://mommyminutesblog.blogspot.com.au//alphabet-handprin

20.01.2022 I thoroughly recommend this Read and Grow session for any parent with young kids. Its full of simple but fabulous ideas to incorporate into your story time at home. Its presented by Bush Kids, and wont cost anything - next week in Stanthorpe. Contact Bush Kids for more information.

19.01.2022 Today I made play dough pizzas all day, thanks to Courtney Craggs Interactive Articulation Play Dough Pizza activities. An absolute hit with girls and boys aged 3-7!

19.01.2022 Lots of fun at Under 8s day with the Granite Belt Support Services team! We had some lovely goop to play in, and also did book binding with the kids.

17.01.2022 Aldi have some wonderful childrens books for sale this week - all $5! There are some great authors in the mix, such as Julia Donaldson, Rod Clement and Pamela Allen.

16.01.2022 Speech Pathology Australia have announced their Book of the Year winners for 2015 - keep these in mind for Christmas!

14.01.2022 Just for fun - some interesting maps showing variation in our word choices depending on which part of Australia we live in.

13.01.2022 Here's one not to miss if you have little people at home.

13.01.2022 A great visual reminder of the importance of using visuals.... posted by my friend Deanna at OT Time Kids Therapy. Thanks Deanna!

13.01.2022 My new iPad arrived yesterday and Im pretty excited - theyve come a long way since I bought my last one six years ago. The other thing thats changed is how reliant we all are on our devices these days - for work, communication, entertainment, and just to pass the time. Heres an interesting article from Hanen on iPads and young children. http://www.hanen.org/Helpful-I//ipad-equals-dont-talk.aspx

13.01.2022 Online speech session today drawing and practising the 'sh' sound together.

13.01.2022 A bit over a fortnight ago I started learning about telehealth, just in case we all had to self-isolate. Now I am 100% an online speechie, with all of my sessions conducted through Theraplatform, a secure online therapy room. Still lots to learn, but so far the ride has been fun, and mostly positive .

12.01.2022 Still loving the post-snow excitement - theres nothing like a snow day to get the conversation happening! We can talk to our kids about what they saw, what they did and who with, and how the day made us feel! Heres my kids with their snowman - Id love for other Stanthorpe and Tenterfield people to post their kids creations here too....

12.01.2022 Getting into the spirit of the Apple and Grape festival this week with fun Apple themed speech and language activities. See you at the festival!

12.01.2022 An oldie but a goodie.... I dug my Beetle game out today to practise saying final sounds in words - it gave lots of opportunity to practise saying leg, leaf, eyes, red and push, just to name a few - and my little mate may not have even realised he was working on his speech!

12.01.2022 The Speech Shack - a couple of weeks ago my little mate at Tenterfield Preschool decided the quietest place for us to work would be in their fabulous cubby! He was right - very easy for us both to concentrate on our work in there - so we went back today.

09.01.2022 Kids Who Use Smartphones Start Talking Later | Kids Development Did you know that for every 30 minutes of screen time, there was a 49% increased risk of expres...sive speech delay? So before giving that smartphone or tab to your kids next time, think twice! Check this video out if you care about your childrens health! Here is a link to the researchs article for your reading pleasure: http://bit.ly/2pR2u8E Fatherly Todays Parent Once upon a mom #language #delay #in #kids #development #smartphone #mobile #screen #time Source: TIME

08.01.2022 Well we didnt get the snow we were wishing for, so opted for some indoor snowman fun in speech today.... Pop Up Olaf! By the makers of my most popular game, Pop Up Pirate, this Frozen variation is proving to be a hit with the girls!

08.01.2022 More books! For the next two weeks the Courier Mail have an offer in which you can grab an Australian childrens book for an extra $2.30 after buying the paper. I grabbed myself a copy of Piranhas Dont Eat Bananas yesterday - cant wait to use it in my groups!

08.01.2022 Perfect idea for holding those Go Fish cards!

07.01.2022 An interesting article by Neumann et al has compared the learning outcomes of digital vs real book story telling. They found that the medium did NOT have an impact on: words learned, comprehension, or motivation to read more. The thing that DID impact all of these (words learned, comprehension, motivation to read more) was the story itself. Certain stories gained better child outcomes, simply based on their content e.g. those that were easier for the kids to understand. (Information from theinformedslp.com)

07.01.2022 Brilliant - if youre home with primary school kids, heres an opportunity to sit down and be entertained every day for a month by a funny, funny author.

07.01.2022 Heres one of my favourite online resources being offered free to eligible uni students!

07.01.2022 We stumbled across this cute little book exchange at the harbourside in Auckland. Housed in a converted shipping container, the space offered shelves of both adults and kids books with a take a book, leave a book honesty system, as well as a comfortable reading area. How awesome is that! I love the concept of a free book exchange, but of course I didnt have a book with me to swap...

05.01.2022 An informative article about thumb sucking and speech development

03.01.2022 Something new thats been keeping the boys motivated at speech .... Storm Trooper Mr Potato Head! Definitely the most requested game last week (and the week before).

02.01.2022 Heres one not to miss if you have little people at home.

02.01.2022 Brilliant - if you're home with primary school kids, here's an opportunity to sit down and be entertained every day for a month by a funny, funny author.

02.01.2022 Still loving Lessonpix.com - best purchase Ive made all year - it took me no time at all to make this snap game of cvcv words using the sound pattern finder feature!

01.01.2022 I play board games every day in speech. The kids love it and so do I. While we might just look like a couple of people enjoying a game, we are often working on several skills at once. This poster from the Speech Bubble sums it up nicely!
