25.01.2022 A few pictures of Glengallan Homestead, a sandstone mansion near Allora in Qld. With construction beginning in 1867 by a Scotsman, John Deuchar, it has seen many changes of fate. In the 1980s, it was derelict and in 2002, a grant from the Centenary of Federation Fund enabled restoration to start. Myrtle, the mummified cat was discovered in 2002 entombed beneath floorboards probably about 1867. There is a story that it was the result of Scottish superstition where a cat protects the house from evil spirits and bad luck. I’m not sure it worked.

19.01.2022 The Cadagi gum that we have called a plum gum since way back is nearly finished flowering. It is a wonderful shade tree, does well in drought and the flowers smell like honey which attract all sorts of insects and native bees. It’s such a pity that it is a considered a pest in my part of S/E Qld.

12.01.2022 We have some fantastic wildlife in Australia and not all of them love us. This little fellow, the blue tongued skink, showed his feelings by poking his tongue at us when all we wanted to do was shift him off the road.

07.01.2022 So, all of you with a drop of Celtic blood, have a peek at how Glen Innes in NSW celebrate the opening of their Celtic Festival. Make sure you listen to Siohban sing the Australian Anthem.
