16.01.2022 WA Tourism Recovery Program Tourism is an important economic driver for Western Australia and will play an important role in the State’s recovery post COVID-19. To support WA tourism businesses to reactivate and adapt to a gradual reopening of the travel market, the WA Government, through Tourism WA, has committed $10.4 million to the Western Australian Tourism Recovery Fund, under the WA Tourism Recovery Program.... This Fund gives eligible small tourism businesses including accommodation providers, tour and transport operators and tourism attractions or experience businesses with annual Australian taxable wages of less than $1 million, an opportunity to apply for a $6,500 cash payment. The payment can be used for a range of fixed costs and recovery expenses outlined in the WA Tourism Recovery Fund Guidelines below. To receive the payment, businesses must have a valid Australian Business Number (ABN) and be an active member of one of the following tourism associations and/or hold accreditation through an approved program including: A Regional Tourism Organisation (RTO): Australia’s North West, Australia’s Coral Coast, Destination Perth, Australia’s South West or Australia’s Golden Outback; The Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC); Accredited via the Australian Tourism Accreditation Program, STAR Rating Australia Program, Eco Certification Program or the Caravan/Holiday Park Accreditation Program. As part of the application process, businesses are also required to submit a Tourism Business Recovery Plan. Businesses that are not eligible include: Those that do not meet the eligibility criteria. Privately-owned residences used for short stay accommodation (such as holiday homes, apartments, etc). Government-owned and operated attractions and accommodation. Local government authorities; visitor centres; member associations; booking agents; event management companies; events; consultants and advisors; publications and promotions agents; or retail precincts. https://www.tourism.wa.gov.au//WA-Tourism-Recovery-Program
15.01.2022 Following a period of difficulty for the tourism and hospitality industries Old Coast Road Brewery (Myalup, Western Australia) is focussed on developing their brewery, products and customer base. One aspect of this development plan is the purchase of a bespoke canning line from the US, together with the required technology pre-installed in the cans, that will allow for the setting up of Australia’s first widget canning manufacturing plant. According to the Brewers Associ...ation (Australia) 85% of beer sold in Australia, is Australian made, contributing significantly to the Australian economy, to the amount of $16 billion a year in economic activity. However, widget canned beers (Guinness/Kilkenny/Tetly/Boddington cans), which account for 0.73% of total beer sales and 2.4% of premium beer sales are 100% imported (IRI/Aztec). There are no existing widget canning lines or productions within Australia, resulting in all proceeds from sales being lost to the Australian economy; and the loss of purchase of product from farmers, and employment/production in brewing, packaging, distribution and freight. In the South West of WA, Old Coast Road Brewery has decided that now is the time to expand their line to include a widget canned porter beer Australia’s first. As well as opening opportunities for the canning of nitrogenated coffee in partnership with local coffee companies. Carrina Hampton, from GrantEd is working with Andrew and Ivanka Harris (OCRB) in their applications for funding to support the project. This is a big project, that needs the support of local businesses, industry associations, and local and state government. While this will open in Myalup, the aim is for this to spearhead the growth of the beer industry in the region; supporting local farmers, increasing jobs and attracting visitors benefits for all. As local businesses and stakeholders, we are seeking your input, as to how and if you’d like to get involved? How you feel that bringing this Australian-first to our region, will impact on your business and community? Or any other ideas you’d like to share with us. We would also like to hear your words of encouragement if you are supportive of the project. Get in touch - 0497139676 [email protected]
