25.01.2022 TOOLS EXPLAINED DRILL PRESS : A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and... flings your beer across the room, denting the freshly-painted project which you had carefully set in the corner where nothing could get to it. WIRE WHEEL : Cleans paint off bolts and then throws them somewhere under the workbench with the speed of light. Also removes fingerprints and hard-earned calluses from fingers in about the time it takes you to say, Oh sh*t DROP SAW : A portable cutting tool used to make studs too short. PLIERS : Used to round off bolt heads. Sometimes used in the creation of blood-blisters. BELT SANDER : An electric sanding tool commonly used to convert minor touch-up jobs into major refinishing jobs. HACKSAW : One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board principle... It transforms human energy into a crooked, unpredictable motion, and the more you attempt to influence its course, the more dismal your future becomes. VISE-GRIPS : Generally used after pliers to completely round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand. OXYACETYLENE TORCH : Used almost entirely for lighting on fire various flammable objects in your shop. Also handy for igniting the grease inside the wheel hub out of which you want to remove a bearing race.. TABLE SAW : A large stationary power tool commonly used to launch wood projectiles for testing wall integrity. HYDRAULIC FLOOR JACK : Used for lowering an automobile to the ground after you have installed your new brake shoes, trapping the jack handle firmly under the bumper. BAND SAW : A large stationary power saw primarily used by most shops to cut good aluminum sheet into smaller pieces that more easily fit into the trash can after you cut on the inside of the line instead of the outside edge. TWO-TON ENGINE HOIST : A tool for testing the maximum tensile strength of everything you forgot to disconnect. PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER : Normally used to stab the vacuum seals under lids or for opening old-style paper-and-tin oil cans and splashing oil on your shirt; but can also be used, as the name implies, to strip out Phillips screw heads. STRAIGHT SCREWDRIVER : A tool for opening paint cans. Sometimes used to convert common slotted screws into non-removable screws and butchering your palms. PRY BAR : A tool used to crumple the metal surrounding that clip or bracket you needed to remove in order to replace a 50 cent part. HOSE CUTTER : A tool used to make hoses too short. HAMMER : Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object we are trying to hit. UTILITY KNIFE : Used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard cartons delivered to your front door; works particularly well on contents such as seats, vinyl records, liquids in plastic bottles, collector magazines, refund checks, and rubber or plastic parts. Especially useful for slicing work clothes, but only while in use. Son of a bitch TOOL : Any handy tool that you grab and throw across the garage while yelling Son of a b*tch at the top of your lungs. It is also, most often, the next tool that you will need.

24.01.2022 An 18m x 9m garaport we recently completed for Grant Sheds. With open bays on both ends for undercover parking, 2 roller doors and 1x PA door.

24.01.2022 Sharing for our Kangaroo Island farmers and other residents...

22.01.2022 It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so bloody ridiculous...

21.01.2022 Thanks to Ian Roberts for approval to share this great old photo and to reproduce in a future edition of our Farm Gate News mini magazine

20.01.2022 This photo contributed to the page by Reg Gale almost has a "Tony Carey" type visual storytelling quality about it, and though the location is not stated it could well be lower Eyre Peninsula. This photo is speaking volumes about farm family life on Eyre Peninsula from approx 1955/1965

20.01.2022 Original Grant Sheds founder was also the make of the Old Monash Playground "Grant Park" which was loved by hundreds of thousands of people from all over SA, Australia and even overseas. It covered 5 acres, was free to enter and open 24/7. Sadly, closed in 1992 because the insurance company would no longer insure it. But very happy memories.

20.01.2022 Thanks to the great crew at MyCause, the online donation site for the Grant Telfer Statue is operating again.

19.01.2022 Grant Sheds founder, Grant Telfer. He started Grant Sheds in 1952. Its now owned by his daughter Alison and her husband Danny Halupka, each of whom have worked in the business since their late teens/early 20s. Grant is now 88, still wears his white overalls, bare feet and rides a (different) bike about 20kms each day (albeit with electric assist these days). Hes a much-loved local legend!

19.01.2022 Still a great hat Darren Chook Letton

18.01.2022 Our own Local Living Legend and original owner of Grant Sheds, Grant Telfer, built the old Monash Playground Grant Park between the 1960’s and 1990. It ended up covering a full 5 acres of land, had some 180 pieces of playground equipment and was FREE to enter. If you remember this amazing tourist attraction in our town of Monash and you had a wonderful time there, we’d love you to assist with our community’s plan to honour him with a statue in front of the new playground... (the old one was closed in 1992 when insurance companies would no longer insure it). Follow the instructions in the attached post from our Monash SA community group and also share the post with your friends. Would also love to hear your memories of visiting the old Monash Playground. Cheers!

18.01.2022 Great workmanship and construction of our Grant Sheds farm shed by Ray Leach and his team. Thanks guys.

18.01.2022 Lovely to see this photo and story about Glies Oster and his family and farm at Pinnaroo. The fact that their much-loved GRANT SHED is in the background is a bonus . We love having the Osters as members of our Grant Sheds family

16.01.2022 Nothing needs to be said ....

16.01.2022 Greg & Sarah Klopp ... 5 years ago already!!

15.01.2022 We love this idea for a farm wedding!

15.01.2022 Clever dogs ...

15.01.2022 I love sharing photos of the (old) Monash Playground that was built by founder of Grant Sheds, my dad Grant Telfer. What memories do you have and can share?

15.01.2022 Well done to great Aussie legend Geoff Gray and his band of willing helpers for organising this very successful event. Just what some locals needed.

11.01.2022 Another Aussie Tough Grant shed built for great farmers at Freeling by one of our trusted shed building teams. Well done guys. Appreciated.

11.01.2022 Please help out our cross-border farming communities by signing this petition asking the SA govt re re-consider the inflexible Covid-19 rules that are causing immense problems for those affected. Read the petition too because they are asking for common sense and are very willing to undertake realistic covid19 precautions. I hope by banding together we can help them out. Good people and hard-working farmers dont deserve the immense pressure the current hardline restrictions are causing.

10.01.2022 Nice pic of ex Monash gal and now mallee farmer, Carolyn Neindorf (nee Bottrill) and her hubby Greg. Found it in this week's Stock Journal newspaper :)

09.01.2022 Lovely to see this photo and story of Giles Oster and his family at Pinnaroo ...along with their great Grant shed in the background. Members of our Grant Sheds family

09.01.2022 Found this undated newspaper snippet, probably from about 1948 and probably from The SA state paper of that time. It shows a few Glossop High students who recei...ved scholarships to attend university courses, including GAK Middleton (possibly Ken) into engineering, RH Maddocks (Rod?) into science, JE Pickering into science, EG Telfer (Grant) into dentistry!! I remember my dad Grant Telfer) saying he was put into a dentistry stream which didn’t suit him at all. He studied in Adelaide for a while (though I thought it was his equivalent of Year 11 or 12) but he decided that city life wasn’t for him and he returned to Monash. I never knew he received a scholarship to study dentistry. When he returned to Monash he worked on his fathers fruit block for a while. His father was Reg Telfer, a WWI soldier settler. Grant was a member of the Renmark Gliding Club when they needed a new hangar to store gliders in. As dad had taught himself how to weld and made his own first welder, he offered to make it for them thinking’It can’t be that hard’. That 1952 hangar (shed) still stands at the Renmark Airport! After that he wondered if there was a market for making shed frames for others and out a classified advert in The Murray Pioneer. He got his first order from Mr Duncan McKnight who lived at Werrimull (I think) on the highway to Mildura. He remembers his father Reg being amazed that Grant could weld up a shed frame, deliver it and come home with a cheque in full payment while Reg grew fruit, delivered it to the distillery or packing shed and had to wait for years and years of part payments. And so started GRANT ENGINEERING which continues today, 68 years later, as GRANT SHEDS and now owned by myself and Danny as 2nd generation.

07.01.2022 It doesnt have to be raining to get bogged fellas! Worth watching.

06.01.2022 A bit of a mixture for todays garden spam. Garden Open for Rose Festival 19-20 October, 10am-4pm. Follow signs from mainMonash and Sturt Hwy intersection and north end of Central Rd Monash. Stop in at Monash Store on your way and see Chetan Prashar for a coffee or lunch along the way.

06.01.2022 Ive heard a lot about the value of and outstanding willingness of farmers to join their family, friends or neighbours in the valiant fight to save and protect others during these horrific events. So proud of you all. THANK YOU for the wonderful people that you are.

04.01.2022 We have a number of egg producers who own sheds made by Grant Sheds. Im sure the others wont mind me promoting KI Free Range Eggs today given the disaster on KI. The Fryar family are seriously great people too. We love working with farmers and farming communities.

03.01.2022 Very proud of farmer Geoff Gray and his mighty team for organising this different and amazing day. I also love this photo where the shadows show (to me) the true height and strength of the farmers of the Millewa region (& others). Your own inner strengths are looking over and protecting you.

03.01.2022 Ole Red and 8 tiny Deere

02.01.2022 Yes, please support Kangaroo Island Free Range Eggs if they are available where you are. We are proud that they have purchased multiple sheds from Grant Sheds. Weve been thinking of them and hoping they are ok along with our other KI farming and business customers and all farmers, businesses and individuals on beautiful KI. We also know they will all be too busy to take a call from us to see how they are. So weve respected their time and understand their fear and grief for the island and those who lost their lives. Kangaroo Island will be great again. Lets visit when the worst is over.

02.01.2022 In this corona-mad world were living in right now, I hope this brings a smile to your face, even if just for a moment. I love the resilience and humour of our farming communities. Sending love and understanding to anyone thats feeling stressed xx

02.01.2022 Grant Sheds founder Grant Telfer built this amazing all-ages playground between the 19602 and 1990s (since closed). Did you visit it in it’s day? What are your memories?

02.01.2022 Particularly this year, when Anzac Day marches etc wont be taking place, it is great for Monash to be paying our respect. Well done Don Heward who had the idea made this cross for Anzac Day. Its very very special. Youre a good man.

02.01.2022 Wow ... this is amazing. Comparing farmer/rural mental health & suicide prevention with having your farm vehicles bogged & how youd seek help from a mate or others when youre bogged. Please watch and share. Lets help our mates.
