25.01.2022 CryptoWall is a ransomware virus that is very dangerous. It can enter your PC silently and then encrypt files, blocking them and making it impossible to access them. The attacker demands US$500 for the private key to unlock your files, with a deadline for this price. After that time, the ransom increases to US$1,000.... CryptoWall can enter the system as a seemingly legit update for a program. Most of the time this program is well-known like Adobe Reader, Flash Player, Java or similar. Know that when visiting unsafe and unreliable pages, fake update messages might appear. This is exactly how CryptoWall works. It also comes in the form of Phishing Emails, with an infected email attachment, or a link to an online location. The content will generally be for an invoice or a fax from a company you may already deal with. Even the best Antivirus programs are easily thwarted by this virus. Your best protection is to back up your data regularly and avoid phishing emails. Do NOT blindly click on links or attachments in emails.

25.01.2022 We often get asked to help with error messages or other things that "pop up" on your screen, rather than trying to describe the screen over the phone, we may ask that you send us a screen shot to help identify what is happening on your computer. To capture your computer's entire display as an image hit the PRINTSCREEN key on your keyboard. This puts the entire display's image on the Windows Clipboard. After the display is captured on the clipboard you can paste the image int...o another program like Microsoft Word or Microsoft Paint or Email. This is done by opening the other program and hitting CTRL+V or SHIFT+INSERT to paste it. Sometimes you may only want to capture one open window on the display instead of the entire display. Do this by holding the ALT key down and hitting PRINTSCREEN. This action will capture the window that is on top (in focus). Simply paste or insert the captured image into an email and send it off to help us troubleshoot what is happening. Now you no how to do it, you may find other uses for capturing images of your screen :-)

24.01.2022 This morning I have received a call from a distressed customer that had a call from Microsofts Head Technician last night...this morning they no longer can access their computer. NEVER provide information to a anyone who initiates a call. If you called Microsoft or any other organisation, that is different, you know who you have reached. If you received a call, you have no idea who the person on the other end is, but I can guarantee you, Microsoft is NOT interested in the "e...rrors" or any other such activity on your PC. Do NOT engage with unsolicited callers, simply hangup the call.

24.01.2022 Adobe Flash Update By default (i.e., unless you uncheck the box) the Adobe Flash update also installs McAfee Security Scan Plus, which can cause conflict with other security programs. If you are using other anti-virus/anti-malware it would be a good idea to uncheck the McAfee box when doing this upgrade.... If you are at all unsure please give us a call

23.01.2022 a little bit of computer geek humour...

22.01.2022 Got the latest iPhone? Updated to iOS 6? Seems Apple are not so upfront when it comes to promoting some of the new features of the latest and greatest....have a read of the attached article...

21.01.2022 When was the last time you backed up....and checked it worked?

20.01.2022 An interesting read...

18.01.2022 We've setup our first Business NBN customer site this week....and it's looking pretty good!

17.01.2022 Australia Post is warning customers of emails which advise that a "courier" was unable to deliver a parcel to their address. Australia Post does not request customers to remit a payment for parcel collection, nor does it charge customers for holding a parcel. The aim of these scam emails is to collect personal / financial information or to install a malicious virus such as 'ransomware' which can 'take over' your PC. Prevention is the best approach to any malware. It's vital that you know the warning signs of a phishing scam. If you receive this email, please delete it.

17.01.2022 Quote of the Day: "Can you please come and have a look, see what sort of computers we need. Then send through the quote. I've got a really good supplier (here) that can do us a good deal and send it up" . ....sure no problems, my time isn't valuable, tell you what, send your really good supplier over to do the quoting as well....

12.01.2022 Scammers are trying to lure unsuspecting Facebook members to a shady survey by promising them the new Facebook black. Hoax Slayer informs that some fraudsters want to make a profit by advertising an application that will change the color of Facebook to black. It all starts with a simple post which reads: Change Your CoIor Right Now. [Link] ... Those who click on the link are taken to a website which promotes an app that can allegedly change the color of Facebook to anything. Once the application is installed, victims are requested to complete a survey before they can make it work. These types of surveys might look innocent, but they can help scammers not only earn money, but also harvest sensitive information. In the end, no colors are changed. Instead, the shady post advertising the black Facebook app is posted on the victim’s Timeline. This is not the first time when crooks offer to change the color of the social media website. Last time, they promised a pink Facebook.

08.01.2022 You cannot and will not win a car on Facebook, ever. When entrants are asked to like a page, share the post on their timeline and often say what colour car they would like if won, particularly for the exotic or European cars. Scammers start these pages for to harvest :Likes". The higher the number of likes the more use these pages are to launch fraudulent activities such as malware and survey scams to larger audiences. Once the page has built up enough Likes the list of user...s can be sold on the black market and used for more targeted attacks. So how can you identify a fake competition for free cars? If it is offering a free exotic car...it is fake! 1.Join Date The join date on these competition pages are usually a dead giveaway. When you notice a page has just been created within recent months and their first post is the competition, leave! Why would a large brand have just joined Facebook recently? 2.Page URL Facebook pages require at least 25 likes before they're eligible for a custom URL. Some of these scammers are even too lazy to even create one - another clear indicator that a large brand's SEO and Marketing department would not have allowed this 3.Number of Likes Most of the scam competitions have a small amount of likes, sometimes getting up to 50,000 (yes, that's small). Take a look at BMW for example - they have 19 million likes! Need I say more? 4.Too good to be true? It is what it is. Rest assured there are some credible competitions out there giving away make-up, beauty packages and concert tickets. But when you see a free car, do not further the aims of these scammers by participating in their bogus promotions. In saying all that, if I win I want a red Ferrari 458.

07.01.2022 Next time you stamp your feet and complain about how slow your Internet speed is....just remember how it used to be...watch to the end where the reporter mentions the download time

05.01.2022 Twice these last few days I have had people bring me external USB hard drives that have failed, or are failing. Their precious photos and other data stored on them, essentially inaccessible, and potentially lost forever. Hard drives are like light bulbs...they fail, usually when you least expect it. If you have precious or expensive, never to be replaced or repeated photos or data stored on USB drives, DVD or CD, back them up, then back up the backups. Do not rely on single instance backups for your data that cannot be replaced. You may also consider online storage options for smaller amounts of data

04.01.2022 It’s rumored that the new iPhone is due for release. We should see the iPhone 6 in August, a month earlier than experts were predicting. If you want a sneak peek of the new iPhone, take a look at your CURRENT iPhone, and pretend it costs $200 more.

04.01.2022 Please beware of a very serious computer virus doing the rounds. We have had two customers hit with this virus on the same day. It has potential to destroy a lot of data.... The virus arrives in an email as a resume in a .zip or .js attachment. Please do NOT open of forward these emails. Delete them immediately. If your Antivirus pops up and says there is a problem, pay attention to what it is saying, and call us if in doubt. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CryptoLocker

03.01.2022 Another variation of the crypto style virus. Have a read and be aware what to look for.

03.01.2022 Another Email Virus scam pretending to be from Australia Post. Please do NOT click or follow the links from any emails, no matter how genuine they appear. This one will take you to a very genuine looking website, and ask you to enter some letters from a Captcha image to download a form to print.....this is the virus....there is no form...there is no parcel!... Delete these emails and do NOT interact with them

03.01.2022 It appears that Bigpond mail servers are currently unavailable, If you are a user of Bigpond Email you can access your emails via the bigpond website.... https://messaging.bigpond.com/?ref=Net-Head-Webmail

01.01.2022 I've received this call for help a few times, "My Screen has turned 90', now everything is sideways....HELP!" It is a relatively easy fix:- Press CTRL + ALT + the up arrow key (or either of the left and right arrows depending which way your screen is rotated. This will work on most versions of Windows from XP through to Windows 8
