25.01.2022 Loving the texture on this part fresh off the 3d printer! I needed a good finish on the base, so printed direct onto the glass bed with just a bit of @3dlac and a warm bed to aid adhesion. This part is a ceiling canopy for a custom pendant light, to fit snugly up to the ridgeline of a gable ceiling. More on the light fitting in the next post! Im finding the @bilby3d Pro PLA great to work with on my @flashforge3dprinter #flashforgeguider2s - cost-effective, consistent result...s, and minimal hassles other than a bit of fine stringing. #3dprinting #3dprintedlighting
25.01.2022 The @hafele_aus #hafeleloox system is very useful and they have decent bluetooth / app control. Here is a little setup ready for some custom pendants in a bathroom - a pair of pendants at the vanity, and a pair by the bathtub. This gives the client lighting from about 3900K (for makeup) down to 2200K (for a relaxing soak in the bath). Hafeles documentation on the system is a bit lacking and confusing but Ive got it all worked out and diagrammed for installers - hmu if you need a hand!

20.01.2022 Lighting at a vanity doesnt _have_ to be symmetrical, provided its soft enough not to cast harsh shadows. GrayLight designed this oversized vanity pendant (as well as a matching ceiling light and smaller shelf light) to pair with the giant circular mirror and provide effective lighting. 18.01.2022 Finding the perfect filament for 3d printed lampshades (vase mode) is tricky - need to balance factors of colour appearance, gloss, light transmission, colour cast of transmitted light, print finish, and tolerance to steep overhangs. So Ive designed a standard test model and a little testing rig for my light meter / spectral colourimeter that allows me to compare. So far Flashforges PLA is winning, though its not the best on any single factor its good across all the measures.

Super excited to see this barn structure by #timberframesofaustralia built and lit up.with @hunzalighting ! Texture is a really important part of the lighting approach here - a few detail crops show how #bloomunit #iray renders reveal these in simulation (with carefully crafted materials).
18.01.2022 The front yard of the Virginia Avenue Residence is bookended by curved breeze-brick walls in red-brick. At one end is a fire pit and the other a Magnolia tree, so I decided to do something a bit different (and extra-warm) with the lighting. The Magnolia comes up very dramatic! I cant wait to see it in flower! With @lightbody_architects and @mcd_construction - #lightingdesign by GrayLight.
17.01.2022 Clean ceiling and bounced light in the hallway at the SeaMist House. Custom 3d-printed uplights made by GrayLight control exactly where the light hits (and doesn't - e.g. minimal back-spill onto wall).
17.01.2022 Hiding a light fitting in the well of a skylight can be a great way of introducing soft light in the evening. In this case it's a 'real' skylight, but we have ways of making 'false skylights' as well when needed!
17.01.2022 Sometimes its the little things (literally) that matter: These stairs on a Hope Island project had the potential to be quite treacherous at night - same light-coloured tile at upper and lower level, and on risers and treads. With just a little light from these barely there @luxr_led Micro Spots, the stairs are much easier to read, and look nice as well. Combined with a motion sensor on the lighting control system, this lighting will make midnight snack runs to the kitchen ...that much safer. 14.01.2022 First prototype of a 'candy cane' lamp module for custom 3d-printed pendant lights. Next step is to print this in @tcpoly thermally-conductive filament (from @moomishcairns ) to test its heat-sinking capacity. Using LED strip as the light source allows maximum flexibility In terms of size, output, colour temperature & rendering; including tunable white colour-changing options to suit each project. And being safe extra-low voltage, these can be used in Zone 2 wet areas in bathrooms.

07.01.2022 And one more from the SeaMist House... I'm not usually a fan of the '3 pendants above the kitchen counter' trope, but these @nordlux ones just happened to be too perfect. We wanted to keep the light quite contained to to the task areas, as the light-coloured joinery could overwhelm if lit too much. Carefully selected @soraa_inc lamp and lenses worked a treat!
07.01.2022 Ive been providing #cpd sessions on a number of #lighting topics with @inhousegroup3 for a few years now... Today was my first time delivering in a live webinar format - and it went very well I think! Lots more of this to come, Id say. Video and audio quality are important for online meetings and presentations (I was doing meetings online before it was mainstream lol), this is is my little #workfromhome setup with light from a window, good quality webcam, and dedicated mic.
07.01.2022 First time using vase mode on the 3d printer to test the design for some custom lampshades - about halfway done at this point. This test print just in white PLA, I have some translucent PETG filament coming for the final parts.

05.01.2022 Most anyone whos worked with me knows Im a big fan of the #soraasnapsystem by @soraa_inc (now part of @ecosenselighting ). But managing my 10 or so favourite lens types while climbing up & down ladders is a pain. Finally Ive got around to designing a lens dispenser - along similar lines to those coin dispensers that bus drivers used to have. Final steps in design are attachments for a carry strap, and embossed labelling and branding on the lid.
