25.01.2022 Our government's approach to refugees is sickening on many levels. Their misguided attempts at propaganda are next level.

25.01.2022 On the one hand, good on the department for trying to get their public health campaign seen by its target audience. Unfortunately, the government will always be held to a higher standard. Influencers have their own brand interests at heart and the reality is that these wont necessarily overlap with your values or messages.

25.01.2022 About time someone officially called BS. I don't know how some marketing/advertising/PR peeps sleep at night! https://www.gizmodo.co.uk//bp-just-got-sued-for-false-ad/

24.01.2022 Language shapes our society. Journalists, marketers, and communicators all have a role to play.

24.01.2022 In good news, it's not law yet. Hopefully common sense will prevail... 'Article 11 proposes a link tax that would force anyone using even small snippets of published text to obtain a licence from the publisher first, while Article 13 would make platforms responsible for installing automated content filters to ensure that material uploaded by their users does not infringe copyright.'

23.01.2022 I used to think...

23.01.2022 Well that's embarrassing. #ProofreadingFail

22.01.2022 Woohoo. Facebook comment down voting is here. Do you have it?

21.01.2022 Next they'll come for the commas....

19.01.2022 It will be interesting to see where this goes...

15.01.2022 Brands + personality. An oldie making the rounds again. And yes, they're real.

14.01.2022 What does it say about a society when moral direction comes not from elected leaders, but from brands? Corporate entities with a manufactured personality designed to appeal to an audience and drive sales?

14.01.2022 The language that the media uses to frame issues is crucial. The Guardian

14.01.2022 Huzzah - finally some insight into how FB determines our news feed.

14.01.2022 Not marketing but very cool

13.01.2022 So yeah, coke is cashing in on the Trump-Kim Summit. Theres a PhD worth of socio-political commentary to be unpacked from this one.

12.01.2022 This is an important read for everyone in research. This is the quote that all my training will start with this year. I suppose I was young enough to believe that doing the science was going to be enough and miraculously, people would act on it. That was a naive view, but I think that was probably fairly common among working scientists.

12.01.2022 This why youre suddenly getting so many notifications about changes to privacy policies. Small business owners: unless youre trading in the EU theres no need to do anything. Worth taking note of the following though as this will potentially become a global standard. The new EU law will also change the standard practices of online businesses by outlawing pre-ticked boxes, required consent and bundled consent. Businesses must now seek (in clear and plain language), and individuals must give, active, specific, free and informed consent to each purpose for which their data is collected.

11.01.2022 Well this is fun.

11.01.2022 Time to rethink your email content?

10.01.2022 Wow. This is one of the most tone deaf attempts at corporate social responsibility meets sponsorship that I have ever seen! Guessing the sales team get much of a say on what Dry July sponsorship will do to their sales targets for the month either!

09.01.2022 I can't decide which is funnier; the missing coma, or the fact that after essentially telling the EU to get stuffed they've tried to spin it with a commemorative coin proffering peace and friendship!

08.01.2022 I cannot stress enough how important a Google My Business account is for local search results. And its free! And you dont even need a website to get started. https://www.google.com//get-a-quote-button-added-to-go/amp

08.01.2022 Watch this space, but don't expect anything fast.

07.01.2022 I would argue that grammar isnt the issue. The real problem is media bias.

07.01.2022 Ahhh, the GDPR... responsible for all those mailing lists last year desperately asking you to confirm you still want your junk emails.

05.01.2022 Given the latest Royal revelations you would want to have more than a bit of experience in crisis management!

04.01.2022 That's that then. I'm taking my bat and ball and going home.

04.01.2022 Well thats embarrassing. #ProofreadingFail

03.01.2022 Convenience or intrusion?

02.01.2022 Cricket Australia has sacked an employee for making a personal Twitter post about access to abortion in Tasmania. Its a bizarre abuse of power and a reminder that we need to maintain a distinction between work and self. John Birmingham sums it up perfectly - And Im finding it very, very hard to imagine that this "Endorsed Employer for Women" would have made such a monumental cock-up of the whole thing if Angela Williamson had been some bloke tweeting his disgruntlement about a vote on, say, duck hunting or restrictions on four-wheel-drives in national parks.
