22.01.2022 someone asked me last week - whether - overall, would I consider 2020 to have been a good year - or a bad year... my first instinct was to say ‘BAD’ - of course... so many terrible things had happened this year - financially, this year was ROUGH, I went from what I felt was the peak of amazingness with my business - to scraping the absolute barrel because of lockdowns and restrictions... I lost my beautiful babushka, I struggled physically, mentally and emotionally - and felt... like throwing in the towel more times than I could count. this year has been HARD. I had to really pause and think... because HARD doesn’t always mean BAD... and when I truly, deeply reflect on the year that was 2020 - so much good came out of the pain, the heartache, the confusion, the loss... this year has given me the opportunity to step back, pause, reflect - reconnect with people I love... spend time with my beautiful boys... spend more time trying new things, cooking more from scratch and pottering in my garden... it’s made me truly consider what is important and what sacrifices I am willing to make for what is important to me... and my sweet babushka is no longer suffering... I don’t feel like I can say I achieved (perhaps anything?!) that I set out to achieve this year - I’m not fitter (financially or physically), I’m not wealthier - I haven’t achieved world domination and heck, I’m a whole lot chubbier what I can say, is that when I think hard, truly think, and humble myself, and set aside the crazy pressure and expectations that I put on my own shoulders.... is that overall, 2020 was a good year... a hard year, but a good year. And going into 2021 - I know that I can do hard things... and it’s going to be ok... 10.01.2022 this week we had to say goodbye to most beautiful, loving, selfless and wonderful babushka. she was one of the most striking and positive influences on my whole life - completely instrumental in me being who I am today. she was cheeky, fun - and wayyy too cool before her time. I grew up with her organic gardening, canning, pickling, jamming and dehydrating fruit in the sun - keeping chickens, nose-to-tail cooking and from scratch everything... my love for cooking, food, feed...ing people and sharing food selflessly and abundantly is all her. all of it. shes also the reason when you ask me for a recipe - Im all like to taste! to taste! to touch! to touch! how wonderfully blessed I am to have had you in my life. my heart is broken into a million pieces.
