24.01.2022 Great little scratch match last night between our Div 7’s and Women’s team. It was a good opportunity for some of our newer players to learn about positions, plays and situational awareness without the pressure of a game. Umpire officially called it a draw but we all know who won.....(right ladies? )

17.01.2022 A Christmas Note from the President Dear Rangers Family, Wow, what a year we have had! 2020 could be a year we would like to forget for many reasons, but I can think of plenty of moments that I personally am thankful for. Firstly, I want to congratulate our Juniors for trying out and making the Marlins Little League Charter and Development Squads. Deakin Filko, Hudson Lee, Ross Oxford, and Hayden Williams represented our club in the Marlins Charter system which has been a... great opportunity to develop their skills and talent and turn them into even better baseball players. Unfortunately, it was at the time the pandemic had hit and the tournaments were cancelled. Hudson, Ross, Hayden, and Ewan Walker spent the start of this season playing and training in the Little League Select program which was aimed at helping identify and develop potential Charter champions. Deakin was also fortunate enough to be invited to Baseball SA’s high performance development program which ran in the off season, again adding to the skills he has already developed. This season we had a whopping eight Gawler representatives (3 in Little League and 5 in Junior League) in the Charter tryouts. Our junior program is building nicely and looks promising in the years to come. Our Club has worked hard to gain respect within both Baseball SA and clubland. We are now starting to be noticed and more clubs are treating us with the respect we have earned and now deserve. I want to thank all our volunteers who have worked extremely hard to get our season up and running and continue to keep it going, given that we were not sure the season would even go ahead. We also had our diamond re-worked and I must admit, it turned out amazing. I would like to thank Dig by Design for donating their time and machinery to help spread the new clay. Our off-field position is looking very strong. We are debt free, have managed to purchase much needed equipment and have cash reserves. Add to the mix, the notification from Town of Gawler that our diamond upgrade has been approved, our future is looking bright and strong. As we draw closer to the end of the year, our Division 2 team has really kicked it up a gear and has motored on to finish 2020 in fourth spot on the ladder with a four-game winning streak. We are all excited for them to keep up the momentum and finish the season playing finals. What an amazing achievement in our short time in the competition. Congratulations to the team and coaching staff for your efforts to get this far. On this note, I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year! Enjoy your well-earned break and we will see you all ready to continue in the New Year! RESPECT ALL, FEAR NONE! Go Rangers! See more

12.01.2022 RANGERS CANNOT HOLD ON By Rob Laidlaw Gawler Rangers played solid baseball in the opening of the division two season, at Karbeethan, on Sunday but eventually lost 5-1 to Golden Grove Central Districts. A couple of errors in the fifth frame and a big hit in the eighth and final inning proved the major difference in the game. After a double play, converted after a liner catch by Rhys Argent, at the top of the first dig, the Dodgers were retired without scoring....Continue reading

10.01.2022 Last Weekends Write Up RANGERS IN THE BLACK By Rob Laidlaw After a tense 2-1 home victory over fourth-placed Henley & Grange, Gawler Rangers moved into the black with a fourth win, from seven division two baseball games.... It was a huge scalp for the Rangers, with the windy conditions favouring the home side. Gawler managed to hold Henley out in the first inning and struck immediately, with two runs in the bottom of the opening frame. Ben Strong led off with a walk and motored all the way home on Rhys Argent’s double to centrefield. Then, with two out, Liam Holland singled a ball down the rightfield line to score Argent and make it 2-0. A single run in the second frame from Henley closed the gap but then the Rangers regular pitcher Josh Lands ended the dig with a strikeout and collected another two K2s in the third, in a three-up, three-down effort. It looked like the visitors were setting up a push for the lead with runners on second and third base with none out in the fourth, but an infield line-out to second base, another K2 and a magnificent catch at leftfield by Ben Nottle quelled the threat. Gawler looked set to extend its lead in the bottom of the fourth, when Holland and Noah Okeil collected hits, but, with just one out, it wasn’t to be, as both runners were ‘hung out to dry’ on the bases to retire the side. A scoreless fifth by both sides led to the sixth dig, which proved the final frame. Henley managed to get a runner to third base but he was stranded. Then in the bottom of the sixth, the Rangers lost a runner on base and had two out, before Holland, Jake Rodda and Okeil walked to load the bases, before the final out was made, but that was it and the game was called, Gawler 2-1 victors. Lands went the distance from the mound, pitching six innings for three hits and an impressive 11 K2s. The division two team play on Saturdays over the next fortnight, starting with an important clash with Glenelg at Glenelg this week. Gawler women had another close loss, going down to East Torrens by one run, 11-10. Jess Zemitis was the standout with the bat, collecting two hits, including a double, scored three runs and batted one run in. * * * * * Results: Div 2 d Henley & Grange 2-1 (hits: Liam Holland 2, Ben Strong, Rhys Argent, Noah Okeil); Div 3 lost to Henley & Grange 23-0 (hits: Wyatt Ryan, Travis Schreier); Woman D2 lost to East Torrens 11-10 (hits: Jess Zemitis 2, Beck Teagle); Junior League lost to Goodwood 10-4 (hits: Joash Cedamon 2, Amara Quinn); See more

09.01.2022 BATTLE GOES DOWN TO THE WIRE By Robert Laidlaw In the first game of the New Year, Gawler Rangers battled top division two baseball side West Torrens down to the wire at Lockleys on Sunday before falling 1-0. It was an incredibly tight and tense game, with the Eagles only scoring an unearned run in their final at bat to steal the glory in a finals-quality match-up. Whereas it is always disappointing to lose, the way the Rangers stuck to the task to the very end was admirable a...nd should be a catalyst for plenty of belief going forward. Gawler had its chances, especially in the first inning, when Ben Strong led off with a hit, and although out on a fielder’s choice when Rhys Argent miss-hit, Argent was successful in stealing second base but was ‘hang-out to dry between the second and third. And when Wyatt Ryan came up with a nice single to rightfield, questions of what could have been were raised. But the tenacious Rangers, behind another fine pitching performance by Josh Lands, continued to battle hard with the top team the game remained scoreless until West Torrens managed to squeeze a run home on a tight play, before it lost a runner at home plate after a great recovery between the battery, Lands to Noah Okeil. Except for just one error by Gawler in that fateful final frame, its fielding was exceptional, especially in the outfield. At leftfield Ryan took two catches, while Jake Rodda took three in centrefield, and Ben Nottle led the trio with four at rightfield. For his part, Lands went the distance from the mound, conceding four hits for five strikeouts in another top-notch outing. This Sunday the Rangers host Glenelg at Karbeethan, a side Gawler had a battle royal with in December before triumphing by a single run. It’s a telling game and is crucial in the run home for a top six spot. Although trounced 15-0 by West Torrens, the Rangers division three team showed some promising signs, with a number of younger players gaining valuable experience. The division seven team played one of its most competitive games this season before going down 17-8 to East Torrens. While the juniors are still a few weeks away before restarting their seasons, Gawler’s women come back on Friday, with an away game against Golden Grove Central Districts. * * * * * Results: Division two lost to West Torrens 1-0 (hits: Wyatt Ryan 2, Ben Strong); Division three lost to West Torrens 15-0 (hits: Link Ryan, Blaze Hurst, Leighton Mells); Division seven lost to East Torrens 17-8; * * * * * This week’s games: Friday: Women v GGCD away, 6pm; Saturday: D2 v Glenelg at home, 12.30pm; D3 v Glenelg at home, 10am; D7 v Southern Districts away, 10am. 02.01.2022 RANGERS FALL AT THE END By Rob Laidlaw For eight innings Gawler Rangers fought valiantly and led 5-3 against Woodville with time running out, but an extra frame was played and it ended up being a 9-5 loss in division two baseball. The Rangers played top class baseball and fought back twice to level and then went ahead with two runs in the eighth frame but it was all in vain, as the opposition exploded with six unanswered runs in the final dig. Trailing 2-0 going into the bott...om of the fourth inning, Gawler levelled proceedings with a pair of runs, after Rhys Argent singled, stole second base and came home Josh Lands error-forcing hit. Lands eventually scored on a wild pitch. Woodville scored a run in the fifth and again the Rangers fought back to tie, with a run in the seventh when Liam Holland reached on an error and came home on Blaze Hurst’s single. Then in the bottom of the eighth frame, hits to Argent, Noah Okeil and Lands, as well as a sac fly to Nathan Schreier, scored a pair and Gawler led 5-3. Unfortunately there was a ninth inning and the game was lost! Starting pitcher Josh Lands went six innings, conceding eight hits but was not involved in the decision. This week the Rangers travel to Goodwood and will be attempting to open their account with a victory. In an amazing junior league game, the young Gawler team refused to surrender and fought gallantly to eventually claim an 8-7 victory over Henley & Grange. After scoring the game’s first run at the top of the third inning, the Rangers surrendered two tallies in the bottom of the frame. Then after Henley scored another pair of runs in the fourth for Gawler to fall 4-1 down, a four-run fifth, which included Joash Cedamon’s two-run single, saw the Rangers lead 5-4. With a single run in the bottom of the fifth by Henley, the game was again tied. Then Gawler scored three runs in the sixth and final inning Ethan Hale’s RBI hit the highlight and held the opposition to just two tallies to claim the win. * * * * * Results: D2 lost to Woodville 9-5 (hits: Rhys Argent 2, Noah Okeil, Josh Lands, Nathan Schreier, Jake Rodda, Blaze Hurst); D3 bye; D7 lost to Sturt 21-4 (hits: Craig Alexander 3, Ben Lee, Brenton Pike, Craig Alderslade); Intermediate League lost to Indians 25-2 (hits: Daniel Dobie 2, Austin Camitteri, Lochlyn Freer, Caden Ford); Junior League d H&G 8-7 (hits: Joash Cedamon 2, Bethany Lee, Ethan Hale); Little League d H&G 11-3: Minor League lost to Port Adelaide 16-0. 01.01.2022 WHAT A WEEKEND!! Some exciting games played on the weekend! If you missed them, stay tuned for Rob’s write up, going up on Wednesday nights.

01.01.2022 RANGERS TOUGH OUT WIN By Robert Laidlaw In some of the toughest conditions seen at Karbeethan Reserve, Gawler Rangers managed to score a late run to beat Port Adelaide 5-4 in division two baseball. With temperatures on the rise and almost storm-strength winds stirring up dirt, leaves and even some loose rubbish, it took a concentrated effort for Gawler to triumph. After conceding a run in the first inning with Rangers pitcher Josh Lands also striking out the side Gawler r...esponded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first frame. Ben Strong led off with a single, and on a groundout ran two bases. Josh Lands then belted a double to score Strong and came home on Liam Holland’s hit to leftfield. The second inning was scoreless but at the top of the third, Port got on a roll after its first two batters were struck out, collecting five consecutive hits to score three times and go 4-2 up. But the renown Gawler fightback spirit came to the fore in the bottom of the dig, when Lands and Nathan Schreier collected hits and both scored, the first on Jake Rodda’s sacrifice fly and the second on Ben Nottle’s groundout. Then in the last inning, with the score still knotted at 4-4, the Rangers managed to squeeze home the winning run. After the first out, Strong managed to run out an infield hit, reached second base on an error and third on a wild pitch, to set up Rhys Argent’s sacrifice fly. Because of the heat rule, game time was reduced from two hours to 90 minutes, with the Rangers managing to bat out the remaining minutes to claim the win. Land pitched the complete game, conceding just six hits one in the first frame and those five consecutive hits in the third while collecting eight strikeouts. He also reached base three times, batted in a run and scored twice! The Rangers women’s team was unlucky in going down 16-15, with Jess Zemitis and Laura Helbig scoring four runs each Helbig also smashed a long home run. Because of the heat rule, all junior games were cancelled on Sunday. * * * * * Results: Div 2 d Port Adelaide 5-4 (hits: Ben Strong 2, Josh Lands 2, Nathan Schreier 2, Liam Holland, Jake Rodda, Blaze Hurst); Div 3 lost to Port Adelaide 18-0 (hits: Keenan Leech); Div 7 lost to Goodwood 13-7 (hits: Craig Alexander 2, Mitch Eiffe 2, Nigel Agars, Deacon Agars, Ben Lee, Brenton Pike, Scott Pickett); Woman D2 lost to Adelaide 16-15 (hits: Jess Zemitis, Madison Carter, Laura Helbig (hr), Brooke Clark, Tracy Filko, Ashlee Filko).
