25.01.2022 WE DID IT! We cracked $100k!! More than 600 walkers pounded the pavement between Shellharbour and Austinmer today, raising money for research into Vanishing White Matter Disease at the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute. Thank you to the beautiful Saxby and Burns families for coming along today. Chloe would have been so proud looking down on all of us, and seeing Holly’s smiling face at the water stops certainly helped a lot of tired legs throughout the day.... 08.01.2022 Here are some helpful reminders to make sure your Great Illawarra Walk experience is fun, family friendly and most importantly - COVID safe. Our COVID safety marshalls from Illawarra Security Guards/Gear will be on hand at the start of the event to check temperatures and help you 'check in' via the Service NSW app (the same way as we have all been doing at cafes etc). We will also have additional 'check in' points at all water stations/starting points along the way. Ple...ase remember we are still in a global pandemic and need to be physically distancing and practicing good hygiene. Our start time is also staggered this year; join in from Bean Roasted Espresso Bars Shellharbour anytime between 6am and 7.30am, or check out the additional starting points at www.greatillawarrawalk.com. You can choose to start at any time that suits you. SHIRT COLLECTION We will have a small number of walk shirts available at Bean Roasted in the morning for those who haven't been able to collect them during the week. FREE FOOD AND WATER The Rapid Relief Team AU will be stationed at Tate Park, Wollongong this year from 9am (instead of Windang or Corrimal like previous years). The team are kindly donating free food, drinks and other goodies - and we really appreciate their support! One Agency Property Division will once again be providing regular water stops along the way - although it's still a good idea to have a drink bottle with you to stay well hydrated. THE AFTER PARTY Headlands Hotel Austinmer Beach will once again be hosting the official after party. Numbers will be capped this year as per the venue's COVID safety plan, so we're asking our walkers to stay and enjoy a couple of beverages before freeing up space for other walkers as they finish the event.
