16.01.2022 Today is a very dangerous day. Catastrophic fire danger is forecast for the Greater Sydney, Greater Hunter and Illawarra/Shoalhaven areas. There is also widesp...read Severe and Extreme fire danger. These are very dangerous conditions. The north coast is a concern today. There is a large amount of fires burning and under the forecast conditions, these will spread quickly and impact on people and properties. The advice today is simple - avoid bush fire prone areas. Don't put yourself in danger. Go to a safer location, such as a built up area in a larger town or city. Due to the scale of the fires and the dangerous conditions, if you need help today you may not get it. A State of Emergency is in place. It is going to be a very long day. A southerly change isn't expected until late tonight, reaching the north coast tomorrow morning. This change will be strong and gusty, and may send the fire in new directions. At 6am, there is 54 bush or grass fires. 25 are uncontained. Report any new fire to 000. Stay alert. Stay informed. Stay safe.
