15.01.2022 WEEK 4 OF 4: HALVES THE SHORT KICK CLOSE TO THE LINE Easily the toughest kick of them all with trying to get the ball through the line because we usually see ...defenders sticking legs out to trap the ball. We really like the half to show/dummy the ball like you’re going to pass which brings the defenders up opening the space in behind the defenders to kick into. Skipping across a defender and angling the ball into the space will help you get the ball through the line. If you attack straight you’ll find you’ll kick the ball straight into the waiting fullbacks arms. If you kick to early the defenders have time to react and play at the ball, go to close to the line and the space closes. On average you want to be approximately 2m (similar distance for a draw and pass scenario) from the defensive line when kicking (note all scenarios will be different).

14.01.2022 WEEK 4 OF 4: OUTSIDE BACKS CATCHING A CROSS FIELD KICK ABOVE THE HEAD All teams want to have the ability to have that aerial threat against there opposition w...hen a cross field kick is put up. Today we were lucky enough to be joined by Knights outside back Matt Soper Lawler as we look at the technique to catching the ball above our head.

07.01.2022 WEEK 4 OF 4: FORWARDS OFFLOADING THE BALL Perceived to risky by some coaches and complimented by some players because they’re to intimidated to take the risk,... we don’t see enough of our younger players generating second phase play through offloading the ball. Some key tips here is: * Work really hard on your grip to be able to control an offload with one hand. * Be selective with your offload it’s not on all the time. * Create space with your bump to offload, taller players use your height in contact to go over the top or for all use a traditional hit and spin method. Every half and outside back loves receiving the ball against an unstructured defensive line. This is what an offload does, the attacker can attract 2 or 3 defenders, a defensive line is retreating and all of a sudden the ball is offloaded and then it’s time to play! Coaches please don’t discourage your forwards to offload rather develop it and coach it!!
