25.01.2022 Since putting word out about our transport service for elderly, vulnerable and less mobile members in the Greater Sorell area we have had a whole heap of positive support and media interest. But it's not enough. The COVID-19 response measures are rapidly changing, and so our efforts shall do so accordingly. We are stepping up our direct action to find some food security for these same members of our community. Whilst we don't read into every news report, there is evidence ...that the major supermarkets and their distribution methods may not be as reliable as anticipated over the coming months. My fear is that our more isolated, independently living and socially disadvantaged people will feel the effect of this first. Anyone living locally knows that luxury services like Ubereats or Deliveroo simply don't exist out here. Even if they did, restaurant food simply isn't affordable to many Tasmanians right now. Eat the Wild is in a unique position. Personally, I am a qualified chef with bulk cooking experience. I have undertaken advanced food hygiene qualifications, implemented many food safety plans and have worked in high-risk food preparation environments (cheese making). My home kitchen is registered as a food business and the van is registered as a mobile food business. In addition, I can access certain food supplies through wholesale avenues and directly from local farmers. This means a vastly reduced supply chain and production cost minimisation. But I need help. I need the word spread. We need to keep in touch with our neighbours and learn their needs and where they are at. I am doing what I can now to plan for getting affordable, hearty, tasty, pre-prepared and safe to eat meals to people who may be in fear of going without. Please share this. Post publicly or Personally Message Eat the Wild - Community if you have any ideas, any suggestions, can provide anything or know of people in the Greater Sorell area or Tasman Region facing uncertainty about the next few months. Thank you, Josh

19.01.2022 Local Coal River Valley vegetables pulled out of the ground yesterday and cooked today. We support local small businesses and farmers whenever possible, the main reason being that their produce tastes amazing. We have super happy to have had multiple orders coming in locally and down on the peninsula. You still have two more days to place orders for delivery this Saturday. ... Phone 0408737575

14.01.2022 In a little over a week Eat the Wild Community has gone from a transport service idea to a meal delivery service ready to take orders. As you may already know, this idea is a little different. It's a business that has the greater community good at it's core. It's a one man, one van show not content to sit and see what happens during this uncertain time. There is some fine tuning needed and I am content to learn along the way. This mostly revolves around making sure that eve...ryone's needs are met and that we don't leave anyone behind. But until those hurdles are encountered it would be a waste of time to jump now, and would look silly just jumping. With no hurdle. I look forward to having meals ready this coming week. With deliveries to be made on the weekend. If you are someone struggling, or know someone who is and feels uncertain about their food security over the coming months, please reach out. Alternatively, if you want to support these people and Eat the Wild you can. The bonus is you get a night off from cooking in return and don't have to resort to the limited options we have for delivery in this beautiful part of the world. If you would like to place an order online, follow the link or hit the Shop Now button on this page. https://eatthewild.square.site/ Thank you, Josh

14.01.2022 Most things are already in place. I have confirmed with council that I meet all the regulations for this service, which is great. Eat the Wild prioritises health and safety, especially in this crazy time. Below are some of the key points so far: > Our goal is to provide a pre-prepared meal service to members of the Greater Sorell area, extending to the Tasman Peninsula. ... > Rather than take donations, we are making all meals affordable to everyone. We will do this by offering two pricing points on each meal. > The cheaper option will be as close to cost price as possible. It will only be available to pensioners, people on disability, unemployed or on a case-by-case basis of people facing food uncertainty due to the pandemic. > The more expensive option is available to the general public. This option covers the costs of getting the cheaper meals to the vulnerable groups mentioned above. For example: petrol, vehicle maintenance, card payment fees, electricity, packaging etc. > At this point we are hoping to achieve pricing of approximately $4 for the cheaper option and in the region of $10 for a general public price. > Our primary focus is on the short-term food security of isolated, less mobile or less fortunate community members. These meals will provide an enjoyable experience in what could be a pretty shitty time. The success of the service is 100% dependant on people purchasing the normal priced meals to subsidise the delivery of the cheaper. Yes, you can buy food at an affordable price and benefit those worse off than yourself. It makes dinner taste even better. > We don't want anyone to slip through the cracks. To assure our accessibility to everyone we are implementing procedures to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19. - Contactless card payment, meaning 1.5 meters can be maintained when required. - Pre-booked cash payments will be available, so that sterilised change can be given -Phone orders taken - We have hot water hand washing facilities in the delivery vehicle, to be used between each delivery - All meals will be vacuum sealed, with the chef personally delivering the meals. This greatly reduces multiple human contact points. Meals can be heated for eating in a pot of simmering water on the stove. The outside of the packaging can also be sanitised. We hope to have our first meals ready by next week. If you know anyone who may wish to purchase either of our services please get in contact on 0408 73 7575 or inbox via the Eat the Wild - Community facebook page. In the meantime, please like our page and share if you want to keep up to date. Thank you! Josh

12.01.2022 Each meal weighs between 350-400 grams. For lighter eaters this is enough for two meals. Pricing: Pensioners and disabled - all meals $4 each General Public - all meals $10 each. Order 10 and receive 2 more FREE (chosen by us based upon your selections) ...Continue reading

10.01.2022 Important: This service is not targeting people who are at serious risk. My hope is that everyone has what they need and know how to get what they need over the coming months. I do not, however, believe this is the case. I am concerned there are folks out there who are living independently, perhaps without internet or knowledge of how to use a computer. Maybe they still shop with cash and don't have anyone trusted enough to do it for them. Maybe they simply wish to get out ...and continue living independently like the rest of us have the ability to do. This service is for those folks. An affordable, direct service to reassure them they are not alone in this. That their choices are respected and they should know their community is resilient and will turn up for them. We aim to act simply as an alternative to other options out there that could potentially pose a bigger threat. This just is a starting point.

09.01.2022 We were fortunate enough to be able to share our story on ABC News Tasmania.

09.01.2022 Today I delivered the last meals of eat the wild - community. I am both sad and joyous that this time has come. Joy that our wonderful state is on track for some sense of normality, but sad that I have to make a decision to end something that had real substance.... When COVID-19 hit, it was instant. Within one week I shut down my brand new food/tourism venture and set up a pre-prepared meal delivery service. Website, contactless payment, suppliers, licences and cooking over 300 meals in a domestic kitchen. At the core was keeping our most vulnerable and remote community members fed. And doing so not with charity, but by creating a business model that offered dignity to everyone, myself included. It relied upon the broader community, and you answered the call. By purchasing our full price meals you have covered the costs of keeping others fed and the operating costs of providing these meals. For that I thank you. It's been an incredibly humbling experience. With people like Stephen pictured here, who is a pensioner living by himself down on the Tasman Peninsula, having ordered 5 meals a week from me the last couple of months. For some like Stephen in isolation, quarantined, concerned for health, pensioners or disabled we were the only point of contact for a while. And relationships were formed that probably benefited my mental health more than anyone else's. As restrictions ease our service will be in standby for another outbreak and/or lockdown. But it is time to focus more now on how to adapt to offer the tours that eat the wild was created for. It's a unique business and I'm more inspired than ever to start having some fun and facilitating the formation of some positive memories. Thank you, Josh.

01.01.2022 Hi there, I just launched my food tourism business at a pretty dismal time. Like a lot of businesses, we face a very uncertain future. But, in the meantime there are folks out there in our community who are facing even greater hardship. Coles/Woolworths are early opening for pensioners to stock up on essentials between 7-8am. I am offering a direct pick up and drop off service with assistance carrying shopping. I have a 12 seater public passenger vehicle (no wheelchair acce...ss), working with vulnerable people card and am fully insured. My van also has hot water hand washing facilities that can be utalised by myself and others to reduce risk. This is not a free service, the $5 (per pickup location, regardless of numbers) is as an alternative to other modes of transport that might cost more or pose a bigger health risk. It is to help cover the cost of fuel as I also have a mortgage and young family. If you are someone or know of anyone living independantly in the greater Sorell area with transport/mobility/access issues who could use some help please inbox me. Josh
