18.01.2022 Having kiddies means parents are faced with the back-to-school challenge of selecting the best footwear. In my household leather school shoes and joggers are essential uniform requirements. My tips:... Properly fitting: this might sound obvious, I want my kiddies shoes to fit, which means being measured properly. This is particularly important for growing feet and geeze are my kiddies growing! Having a thumbs width space is perfect to allow for wiggle room and continuous growth. More than a thumbs width could led to rubbing and blisters due to heel slippage. Shoe features: (a) Sturdy heel counter that doesn't collapse when you push your thumb into it. This is important as it stops the foot from rolling around in the shoe by hugging the heel area. (b)Strong middle and back section of the shoes prevent torsional stress (twisting). Test this by trying to wring out the shoe. (c) Shock absorption: cushioning in the midsole of the shoe accommodates for the stress forces of asphalt and concrete. (d) Fastenings: choosing correct fastening . Velcro is a great option for little ones until they can confidently tie their own shoelaces. Loosened shoelaces allow for foot slippage and foot movement. (e) Orthotic friendly: one of my cherubs has pronated feet. Both ascent and asics accommodate for orthotics. Your local Althetes Foot stock the Scent range, Asics and Clark's.
