. We only spent one day on Great Keppel Island but the logistics to get there and back took two days. Many of our travel days are spent like this, on the way to a place and in transit. By boat or @greyhoundaustralia bus, depper in Australia. This country is almost a continent and trying to get to know it well would take months. Since we don't have that time, we made choices and our bet was on the East Coast, the so-called Great Barrier Reef and Gold Cost. So far, Australia has shown us wonderful places, but if there is one thing we have learned is that the further away from established tourism we are, the more this country surprises us. 23.01.2022 Tourism and Events Queensland forum, Destination Q, last year saw Indigenous Tourism Canada spokesman Keith Henry (who helped to found the Indigenous Tourism As...sociation of Canada) deliver an incredibly beautiful, exquisitely curated speech. A marketing exercise in and of itself, expressing how a 2 billion dollar industry has been developed via indigenous tourism. Not randoms exploiting cultural endeavours but a genuine focus on supporting and nurturing indigenous people into their own business opportunities and helping them to thrive. The visuals were deep and engaging. Video clips that told a story, captivating us using visual stimuli as well as perfectly timed musical themes that weren’t just a repetitive loop but a produced soundtrack that had highs and lows to grab at your soul while you watched. This opportunity to support ventures are available to us as a region. I would love to see our area embrace them. View a recording of the same presentation delivered for another group. Very informative. https://youtu.be/7b0joZ9tWx8 Visit Queensland, Australia See more

08.01.2022 No Sea No Me. Without the ocean's array of wildlife and delicate ecosystem that supports our planet, we're pretty screwed. Let's help look after it.

07.01.2022 Marine turtle season is underway and there is one key action every Curtis and Capricorn Coast resident can take to support both nesting turtle and emerging hatc...hling this season from October to March turn off your lights! As turtle hatchlings emerge from their nests, they seek the lowest, brightest light source to act as their guiding light to the ocean. Having navigated the oceans for millions of years, moonlight is nature’s way of guiding the newborns to their marine habitat. A three-year study by Griffith University of light pollution on Curtis Island from 2012 2015 indicated that 20% of turtle hatchlings were disorientated as they made their way to the ocean. Of course, being more mindful of the light you are generating from your home also brings with it benefits in reducing your electricity bill, practising good sleep hygiene, brighter night skies and many more. If turning off your light completely is not an option, you can consider redirecting light sources away from the ocean, drawing blinds or curtains, building vegetation to act as a screen, or transitioning standard outdoor lights to lights that are timed or activated by sensor detection. Urban glow generated by townships can be reflected into the night sky, with a greater glow occurring on overcast evenings. Every light makes a difference in reducing light pollution. Remember, marine turtles dig the dark!
