18.01.2022 WHY DO THEY DIE AT THE END? This is the most frequently asked question. And it's heartbreaking having fully formed chicks make it all the way to the end and then fail to make it out. Why do they die at the end? The first thing to understand is that the time of death has little to do with the causes of the death. As the embryo's oxygen requirements increase towards the end, while the oxygenation is still via the veins just beneath the shell, the pores in the shell become unabl...e to keep up with the supply. CO2 builds up and the embryo begins convulsing, almost dies, and the convulsions cause head jerks, and the egg tooth tears the inner membrane into the air cell. This gives it immediate access to a rush of oxygen which initiates pulmonary breathing. But then, that air tank starts to deplete and again the pores in the shell aren't able to replace the oxygen being used by the now "born" hatchling, so for a second time, CO2 builds up and again the head jerks, the convulsions, a second near death experience, and the egg tooth pips a hole to the outside air. Many, many fail at one of those two choke-points, and it can be for the whole raft of earlier causes, whether incubation settings, dietary deficiencies, malpositions, genetics, or an accident of nature. 17.01.2022 MY ULTRASONIC MISTER HAS STOPPED RUNNING It’s likely fouling around the rim of the ceramic disc from the water being a little too alkali/acidic. And even our rainwater contains whatever is on our roofs. The water in the tray is being used both by the mister and by the fan’s airflow. That water which the fan evaporates into the air leaves behind the impurities, which become concentrated in the remaining water. The fouling residue grows and starts to make the disc vibrate at a... lower and lower frequency, then it stops altogether. The workings inside the puck could still be OK, and there are some who buy replacement discs. (Link below for the time being - we're getting some stock to put in for the online shop) The long term solution is to treat the water’s pH as you would treat pool water, using a pool test kit and chemicals. We use the pool water. The short term cure might be a regular good soak in a CLR (Calcium Lime Rust) solution at the concentration you would use it to clean a washing machine tub or a dishwasher. 17.01.2022 AVAILABILITY CONSTRAINTS - INCUBATORS - 2020 SEASON (updated 12 Sep 2020) Sales this season started early and demand for our incubators is unexpectedly strong. Our OFFSPRINGS, which are manufactured in Europe by a Schneider Integrator have sold out in the Auto Turn variant. More are on order with no firm ETA. The OFFSPRING Key Turn variant is in stock. It is the exact same machine except for how the eggs are turned. The Key Turn variant can be retro-fitted with a motor later ...by a qualified person but we only keep a few spare motors to support existing Auto Turn owners, (the motors seldom fail) so we made them "Call for Price". More motors are also on the way. Each Offspring is check-run and calibrated here, in the same order as the order numbers. The availability of our own TOP HATCH machines is being constrained by our workshop capacity. We have NO FINISHED STOCK and the backlog is long. We have marked the 3TTH "Sold Out" & "Call for Price" to stop it being ordered online against our advice. There is a waiting list with about a hundred names and one can be added onto it for the asking (by email) with no obligation and no deposit. The list is a spreadsheet sorted by the date of first enquiry. Not everyone waiting so long is going ahead, so we're NOT able to give firm completion dates and we're ignoring requests for a delivery date, sorry! In between breeding seasons we are idle for months!

07.01.2022 AVAILABILITY - TOP HATCH INCUBATORS - 2021 SEASON (updated 25 Jan 2021) We keep NO FINISHED STOCK. Availability of our TOP HATCH machines is constrained by our workshop capacity. Sales last season started early and demand for our incubators remains strong. There is a waiting list with many names still on it however, when contacted, we find that for many the urgency has passed. We would advise those still wishing to retain their position on the list to confirm (by email). Ones with new enquiries can be added onto the list for the asking (by email) with no obligation and no deposit. The list is a spreadsheet sorted by the date of first enquiry. Not everyone waiting a long time would be expected to go ahead, so we're NOT able to give firm completion dates, sorry!
