25.01.2022 Good to get out in the Tablelands area, plenty of these big-footed guys around. White-throated Treecreeper, the northern race ssp Minor.
24.01.2022 A couple of different 'Cooktown' jewels. The 'Cooktown Orchid', Qld's floral emblem. The Black-winged Monarch wet season migrant from P.N.G this is as far south as they venture in Australia. Last but not least the beautiful 'Black Mountain Skink' (Carlia scirtetis) endemic to a pile of black granite boulders just south of Cooktown.
24.01.2022 Central Cairns has some good birds at the moment. Migratory Oriental Cuckoos, resident Mangrove Robins and skulking Black Bittern.
23.01.2022 A few photos of a recent Grasswren (Qld) scouting trip for our North West Qld tours in 2021.
21.01.2022 I have been fortunate to just return from a period of time in Iron Range (Kutini Payamu). Although post cyclone Trevor, we still did enjoy good sightings of all the areas local specialties. So, if you are planning a trip up into this fantastic area in 2019 I can fully recommend that it will be worth it. The Cape York local communities will also benefit from your support.
21.01.2022 Apart from fantastic views of the Red-bellied Pittas, there are a few other reasons why we go birding in Iron Range National Park and the Lockhart River region in January every year.
21.01.2022 Nice to get some birds lawn-feeding in Mt Isa recently
18.01.2022 Certainly missing the Finches of Cape York at the moment.
17.01.2022 Great to be back birding in Karumba. Scoping for shorebirds and Yellow White-eyes.
16.01.2022 Not the best photo , but good to see a dozen or so of the beautiful Major Mitchell Cockatoo together. Outside Quilpie South West Qld.
15.01.2022 Unfortunately Cape York birding is definitely on the back burner at the moment. Apart from all the wonderful birds up there, there is only 2 true endemics of the Cape. Golden-shouldered Parrot and the delightful White-streaked Honeyeater.
11.01.2022 On our Cape York birding tours over the last few years, we have been covering an incredible diverse array of eco-systems from Cairns to Weipa. This has enabled us to come across not only the fantastic birdlife but also a huge range of reptiles. Leaving out all the different snakes we have found, i have just put together a selection of some of the Skink and Goanna species that have crossed our paths, whilst chasing our bird targets.
10.01.2022 Nice Wandering Tattler on the Frankland Islands (Cairns) last weekend, always a tricky bird to differentiate from Grey-tailed. Note the brow not extending back past the rear of the eye. Call difference in flight and of course terrain.
10.01.2022 Channel country looking dam lush! Along with the Acacia Peuce ‘Waddi Tree’ on the Boulia-Bedourie section. Great birding with the group today, fantastic part of the country.
09.01.2022 Cairns Esplanade can have a great variety of waders in the summer months, but not to be outdone a couple of other locals. Varied Honeyeater and Torresian Kingfisher
07.01.2022 Sharing a few photos taken by our guests on our last Cape York Birding tour. We have been very fortunate to still get a few tours underway this season and fingers crossed a few more during spring. Such a wonderful and diverse region to travel in. Many thanks to all visitors for their ongoing support.
05.01.2022 Great day out at Michaelmus Cay (sand cay 1 1/2 hrs east of Cairns). Always brilliant to see volumes of wildlife, in this case nesting and roosting seabirds.
03.01.2022 Having just returned from North West Qld, happy to say some great birding was to be had despite the very dry conditions. Was told that the Lawn Hills Station ar...ea only had about 40mls for their entire wet season (even after cyclone Trevor skirted to the west). Finches were a highlight with our groups best effort - 7 Finch species in a day. Crimson, Double-bar, Zebra, Masked, Chestnut Breasted Mannikin, Long-tailed and half dozen Gouldian. See more
02.01.2022 Just stay close to those big dinosaur feet and don't go on the road!
02.01.2022 I intruded on these Owl's lately. Southern Boobook hiding in his daytime hollow and Mr Rufous Owl with a tail-less male Figbird.
01.01.2022 Unfortunately we have had our Gulf/Mt Isa tours cancelled this year because of incoming guests travel restrictions. But fortunately i have been able to get away and go over some of the country we will have groups visiting in 2021. These few photos are from the Karumba area, always a wonderful place to go birding.
