22.01.2022 Motorplex supporters we have fantastic news. Theo Newhouse, our chairman, has given a presentation on the proposed Albany Motor Sports Park to the full council of the City of Albany which was very well received. We have been advised that funding is being made available for us to carry out a feasibility study of the project. Environmental monitoring work has been commenced, but there is still much work to do. We are pleased to be able to announce that the project is progressin...g. And from this we would like to present to you all, with special thanks to Albany Aerial Imaging, an aerial photo of the site and a flyover. Also with special thanks to Roberts Gardiner Architects, our official concept design plan of the proposed park. It will definitely be a superb motor sports park for our great city Below is the link to the flyover with the layout picture being attached to this post. https://www.dropbox.com/s/l3xrj8crglz/motorplex%20site.mov The Amazing South Coast, City of Albany News & Events, Albany City Kart Club, Great Southern Street Machines Association, Albany Aerial Imaging ph:0419415093, Albany Motorcycle Club, Racewars.

20.01.2022 Motorplex supporters and fans alike. We have had a number of queries and so the Great Southern Motorplex Group would like to clarify that Western Motorsport and Thomas Benson have no involvement whatsoever in the development of the proposed Albany Motorsport Park. This is an initiative of the Great Southern Motorplex Group Inc. Working in conjunction with the City of Albany. ... Thankyou for your continued support in making the Albany Motorsport Park a reality. Regards Theo Newhouse - Chairman

19.01.2022 Racefans... A progress update! Nothing moves quickly when you are trying to develop a major project. The proposed Albany Motorsport Park is no exception. Since our last post when we advised that the City of Albany Council had approved the Scheme Amendment for rezoning the property, the project has been with WA Planning Commission for their consideration and approval and from there it will go to the Minister for Planning for her approval and signature. When? Soon!... In the meantime, a third party, not being satisfied with the WA environmental assessment process, has referred the proposed development to the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment in Canberra. So, another environmental submission in accordance with the EPBC Act, more delays and more costs. Not to let this deter us, a Development Application is being prepared so when the Minister is satisfied, and Canberra is satisfied, we can submit the Development Application to construct the project. This will be assessed by a Joint Development Application Panel. We are extremely lucky that we have an incredibly supportive City of Albany. We are confident that the project will come to fruition. It just needs lots of perseverance and money. Theo Newhouse, Chairman (30 April 2021).

17.01.2022 Attention racefans. A word from our Chairman. I owe our followers an apology. A superseded preliminary layout plan of the proposed Albany Motorsport Park has been released on social media without the approval or knowledge of the Great Southern Motorplex Group. We have not posted preliminary layout details of the proposed Albany Motorsport Park as it is currently with environmental, planning, fire and emergency services, sport and recreation, and other government agencies for... approval. While in this very sensitive approvals process it is important that the details of the proposed development remain confidential. Our Business Plan is also being reviewed by Great Southern Development Commission, Sport and Recreation and VenuesWest. We have been in the process of responding to their comments and queries. Representatives from Motorcycling WA and CAMS have inspected the site and assured us of their support. The plan that has been circulated is a superseded layout. The up to date site layout plan will remain confidential while it is subject to consideration and approval by these agencies and by the various motor sport bodies. This is a very delicate phase of any major development and will take time and patience. Be assured that the proposed venue will, subject to approval, include a Motocross Track, a junior Motocross Track, a Burnout Pad, a 4WD/ATV area, a 3.5 km x 12m Race Track and a 1,000 feet Drag Strip. Although our objective is to be able to develop a venue suitable for State and National events, our focus will always be on producing a family friendly and affordable multi-use motorsport venue. We promise to keep you informed as the process develops. Kind Regards, Theo Newhouse, Chairman, Great Southern Motorplex Group Inc.

15.01.2022 Extra, extra. Read all about it

13.01.2022 Festive greetings racefans. It’s been a challenging and frustrating year for all of us, including your committee. We have just completed the mandatory City of Albany Public Comment period, and, thanks to all your support comments, we believe it went well for us. It’s now a Christmas period delay until late February for the process to be considered and approved by the City of Albany Council after which it will go to the Planning Commission for their consideration and endorse...ment, and, the relevant Minister for signing. Then, a development application is submitted to Council for approval to start construction. So, there is still work to be done. A long winded process but that’s how it is. We have already prepared most of the documentation ready for the development application. We are very confident that construction will start in 2021, so, as the saying goes, watch this space. The GSMG Management Committee wishes you all a safe and enjoyable Christmas and a successful 2021. Get your cars and motorcycles ready.

11.01.2022 Approved To the mayor & all members of the city of albany council, to all of our supporters, its very hard for us all to show our appreciation for tonight’s outcome. Without you, our great city would not be given this opportunity to build a world class motorsport park right in our backyards for generations to come to enjoy. ... The City of Albany council has voted unanimously in support of purchasing the property on Down road. With much work ahead from here, Keep an eye out for our future updates on progress. Thankyou

09.01.2022 Albany Motorsport park supporters. Update time At the City of Albany Council meeting this week the council approved the processing of the rezoning of the Albany Motorsport Park property to special use. The City will now submit the full environmental study, bushfire management plan, noise assessment and traffic management plan documents to the Environmental Management Authority (EPA) and the Department of Planning, Land and Heritage (DPLH) for their approval. Once this is... received, which we hope will be within 3 months, the rezoning and proposed development will be advertised by the City to the community for comments for 60 days. A community consultation session will be organised which we hope will be towards the end of this year. Our AGM will be held at 5.30pm on Thursday 29 August 2019 in the City of Albany meeting room. Watch this page for further updates as we proceed through the process. Regards, Theo Newhouse, Chairman GSMG Inc.

04.01.2022 Another great motorsports event in Albany. Thankyou to all helping support these race events in our region. Soon we can add the Albany Motorsport Park to the targa rounds

04.01.2022 Motorplex fans, now is a great opportunity for you to help us and show your support. The Scheme Amendment which will rezone the property to allow a motor sport facility to be constructed has been advertised by the City of Albany for public comment. The advertising period closes on 17th December 2020 when all submissions will be considered and put to Council for approval to proceed.... So, please register your support for the Scheme Amendment in a submission which can be done through the City’s website https://www.albany.wa.gov.au//lot-5780-down-road-south-dro We greatly appreciate the support from you and the community, this will help immensely. If you plan to share on your own pages please include a small comment as it will only share the city’s link without our comment

03.01.2022 Attention Racefans. Status update time! We have been hard at it with development on the Albany Motorsport Park. We are progressing through the approvals process currently. We have nearly completed a preliminary general site layout plan which includes Motocross track with clubrooms, Junior Motocross, 4WD driver training and ATV area, Burnout Pad, 3.5km x 12 wide multi-use track with pits and clubrooms along with a 1,000 feet drag strip with its own clubrooms. We hope to reveal... a detailed image depicting all this in the near future. Now we need your help. We have been researching burnout pads. We have some ideas for shapes and dimensions based off some of the greater burnout facilities around Australia but now would like your input, tell us what you want to see for a pad, even a picture. We want to build a facility to suit your motorsport needs!

03.01.2022 A huge Thankyou to Steve, Ray & the team at Auto One Albany along with Spanners & Sparks Motorsport for their generous donation towards our Albany Motorsport Park. We guarantee it will go to good use

03.01.2022 It’s a thrill to be able to make a positive announcement on the progress towards us getting our long awaited Albany Motorsport Park. After very thorough consideration of the environmental studies carried out and discussions held with DWER and EPA, the Environmental Protection Authority has determined to not assess the City of Albany Local Planning Scheme 1 Amendment 35 which proposes the rezoning of land to allow a motor sport park to be developed. As previously advised, we... felt it necessary to make some concessions along the way but we are delighted with the outcome. The next step is that the City can now advertise the proposal to the community for comments. If the past is anything to go by we expect a lot of very positive and supportive comments. We are fortunate to have exceptional support from the City of Albany in bringing our dreams to fruition. There is still some work to be carried out but now we are a very big step closer to having a Motocross Track, a Multi-use Race Track and a 4WD/ATV training area. I am personally confident of having the next motocross season starting on a new and national standard Albany Motorsport Park. I will keep you all informed as we progress. Theo Newhouse, Chairman, Great Southern Motorplex Group Inc.

03.01.2022 Attention Albany Motorsports Park supporters. Its update time. It must be frustrating for you not knowing what, if anything, is happening. ... Let me assure you that the project is progressing. The City of Albany has received feedback from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulations (EPA Services) with a list of queries they need answered and a request for more information on noise analysis and groundwater management. The design team have met and feel confident that we can satisfactorily provide EPA with answers and additional information. We have until 13JAN2020 to respond. We are aiming to respond before Christmas. EPA then has 28 days in which to get back to us - with the nod of approval, we hope. Once approved by EPA, the City of Albany will advertise the proposed Albany Motorsport Park for 60 days. It’s once this process has been satisfied, plus some other government agency approvals, that construction can commence. Not as fast I was hoping but the proper process must be followed and has involved a huge amount of research and reporting. Our objective is to get the motocross track and associated infrastructure constructed first. If this can be achieved by June 2020 I’ll be very happy. The next objective is to construct the sealed race track late 2020/early 2021. On behalf of the management committee and members of Great Southern Motorplex Group I would like to wish you all a very enjoyable and safe Christmas, and a most enjoyable 2020. Theo Newhouse, Chairman

02.01.2022 Motorplex supporters. How good is it to see the support from the local clubs for our cause. The Motorcycle club always run a safe & family friendly event, it will be great to have these kinds of clubs host these events at our park. Stay safe in these trying times racefans

02.01.2022 A long overdue update from us to you, our motor sport followers. We hope that you are all well. Unfortunately many of you will have been impacted by the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus. We hope that you manage to manoeuvre your way through this very challenging period. Very little visual progress has been achieved since our last post. We have worked with the motocross people and the 4WD people to establish design parameters and needs for their sports. Our wish is... to see them using the facility as soon as possible. This morning, the Mayor of the City of Albany announced that the Albany Motorsport Park project will be placed on hold amid the coronavirus outbreak. Not good news, but it has been expected and we fully understand and support the Mayor’s decision. However, we have been waiting since January 2020 for a decision and report on the proposed project from EPA. We will continue to seek their comments and approval as a matter of urgency, and, also that of WAPC, so at least the approval process for the project can be progressed. Once this awful pandemic is at a stage that we can return to some form of normality we believe that infrastructure projects and projects such as the proposed AMP should be commenced to get our unemployed back to productive work. That is only our opinion. Based on this assumption, we should have the project at a stage where final design and construction can be commenced at short notice. From all of us at the Great Southern Motorplex Group Inc. we wish you well and look forward to one day meeting you all at the Albany Motorsport Park. Stay well, Theo Newhouse (Chairman)

01.01.2022 Good morning racefans. A message from our Chairman To all our amazing supporters.... I would like to thank all our supporters for an amazing turnout to the City of Albany council meeting tonight. The enthusiasm was unbelievable and certainly gave the councillors the confidence to all vote in favour of purchasing the property along Down Road for our proposed Albany Motorsport Park. This is only the first step. Next we need to assist the City in rezoning the property to suit our purpose and that requires several studies and submissions to various government agencies. Some of that work has already been started but we will progress this immediately to ensure the process doesn’t stall. Next, we also start the detail design of the tracks and working towards securing more funds. GSMG feel very confident going forward and will keep you all posted. Keep your support coming! We will get a national standard motorsport park here in Albany. Thank you again for your support. Regards, Theo Newhouse Chairman Great Southern Motorplex Group Inc.

01.01.2022 Motorplex supporters, Good news! Another milestone has been passed with the City of Albany Council tonight voting in favour of the Scheme Amendment which will enable rezoning of the property to allow motorsport. This takes us another step closer to having an Albany Motorsport Park. There is still a considerable amount of work to be done until construction can be started but at least it’s a major step forward. ... Thank you to all who have assisted us in getting to this point and attended the council meeting tonight in support. Keep an eye out as future development continues
