24.01.2022 A lot of us would have probably spent today nursing some pretty sore heads had TGSS2020 been able to go ahead. Instead, we're gonna reminisce on the 2016 After Party and the hilarity of the photoshoots that went down!

24.01.2022 We are receiving questions as to whether TGSS will still go ahead given the current spread of COVID-19. As of 10/3/20 there are minimal confirmed cases in SA. We will be continuing with business as usual for the time being and are closely monitoring the advice of the State and Federal Governments and WFTDA. If anything is to change we will advise as soon as practicable.

23.01.2022 We are receiving a large amount of emails at the moment, please allow our tournament crews at least a business day to get back to you - some questions require a bit of investigation before we can respond. If you still haven't had a response after a few days, feel free to follow up with us!

23.01.2022 Tonight would have been the night that we’d be preparing the tracks, setting up the stalls, registering skaters and officials from all over the world and getting those nervous jitters prior to the beginning of TGSS tomorrow. We’re so sad that we can’t all be coming together to do battle with skate and booty. Instead, across the weekend we’ll be posting flashbacks from TGSSs gone by. We hope you can reminisce with us while you get excited for what is (hopefully) going to be an amazing TGSS 2021!

22.01.2022 Happy Valentines to the teams that have been with us for a whole DECADE!! These teams have been there since the beginning of Slam, and will be coming back in 2020! If you've also been involved in every TGSS (in one way or another!) and are coming this year, we'd love to hear from you...comment below!

16.01.2022 TGSS 2018 makes an appearance in this episode

16.01.2022 Dear derby community, It’s with a heavy heart that we come to make the (somewhat unsurprising) announcement that TGSS 2020 is not going ahead. Our tournament crew will be in touch very soon about options and details for refunds for registration fees. Our Ops Committee are still planning to meet (via a safe distance!) to discuss an alternative date for TGSS, but it has reached the point where we feel a tournament in 2020 will not be a viable option. Regardless, this informati...on will come to you soon. Until then, stay safe, look after each other and know that whenever this thing is over, we’ll work to unite the Australian, New Zealand and the extended international derby community in the best way we know how. All our love and distant bumps, TGSS Ops Committee.

15.01.2022 TGSS Love Letter #3 Holy moly, there are just 88 days until The Great Southern Slam 2020 kicks off!! We've got a lot to update you with, so grab yourself a cuppa and read on. Tournament Structure/Challenge Bouts...Continue reading

10.01.2022 So 2020 is proving to be a first for many things - for the first time in history, TGSS may well be held on an odd year, and it seems that even the Olympic Games are following suit! Jokes aside - as we said in our previous post, TGSS will no longer be held in 2020. Our Ops Crew met virtually this week, and our aim at this stage is to postpone to the June long weekend of 2021.... This seems like a world away right now, but with the uncertainty of this virus and the length of the measures we’re currently seeing, the financial impact that this will have on individuals, as well as the potentially full seasons that leagues are going to miss, we think this is the most viable option moving forward. Our aim is to be able to bring everyone together, to be able to give each other big sweaty consensual derby hugs, and to celebrate derby, us coming together, and to overcoming 2020. We want leagues to ultimately be in a strong and stable position by the time this rolls around. An email will be sent shortly from our tournament email to leagues requesting bank details for registration fee refunds. Officials, this email will come from our officials email. TGSS Ops will be monitoring the situation in the coming months and will be looking to update you all on our 2021 goal as the year progresses. We will aim to send a new EOI out, first to all leagues and officials that registered for TGSS 2020, and then to the wider region. All of this is dependent on what the next six month brings our way, but this is our plan moving forward. We want to send out our enormous love and gratitude to all of you who support TGSS, and who sent us kind words of support after our initial postponement announcement. Our big derby community is the bomb diggity. Stay safe, stay connected and stay healthy! All our love and distant bumps, TGSS Ops Committee xxx

09.01.2022 TGSS Ops Crew will be making a decision as to whether TGSS 2020 will go ahead on March 31st. Keep an eye out on our social media and emails for updates. Thanks for your patience while we work through an ever changing situation. In the mean time look out for your pals and wash your hands x

03.01.2022 Drumroll please Announcing the Tournament Head Officials for TGSS 2020 THR - Harm Solo THNSO - Connie & Seath Lord... Harm Solo couldn't get enough of the TGSS last time around, so is back reprising his role as Tournament Head Ref. Representing Adelaide Roller Derby, Harm has been rolling around for 8 years now generally causing mayhem around him and believing he is much punnier than he actually is. Connie has been making the West Side proud for about as long, and will be one of our two Tournament Head NSOs for the weekend. Connie hails from Perth Roller Derby, but beware anyone who gets caught in the cross fire when Harm and Connie conduct ad hoc pun battles all weekend. Making up the triad is Seath Lord, co-Tournament Head NSO with Connie. Some say he started out as a Jedi before turning to the dark side. Seath comes with plenty of experience after years spent honing his skills with Canberra Roller Derby League. Perth and Canberra are a long way apart. The Nation is safer when Connie and Seath have thousands of kilometres between them, who knows what will happen when they spend a whole 3 days together! It's gonna be a cracker of a weekend!
