25.01.2022 This week’s specials brought to you by Izzy.
24.01.2022 Hi everyone. In the main, our patrons have worked with us to comply with the Covid restrictions placed on Pubs by the NSW government. We are very appreciative of this. However, last night we had to close prematurely due to some patrons continually breaching social distancing guidelines by hugging, jumping on shoulders, dancing and yes, grinding. Despite directions from our Covid Safety Marshall to cease the erratic behaviour, it continued so the pub was closed. The behaviou...ral factors common to last night’s closure were it being a Wednesday changeover night, out of town workers off the leash and obvious intoxication by illicit drugs. Do not deal or administer drugs at the Great Western Hotel. Don’t take drugs before you arrive, have one beer and then cause havoc when the drug kicks in soon after arrival. We’re not being Narks. We want everyone to have a good time but we have to comply with the laws of the land to keep the doors open.
24.01.2022 Hi everyone. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Great Western Hotel is now closed for the day and will not be trading tonight. (12th August). JUST TO CLARIFY- The issue is with local authorities & not related to COVID 19.
24.01.2022 Hi everyone. We are open for takeaway food only tonight from 530pm to 830pm.Hi everyone. We are open for takeaway food only tonight from 530pm to 830pm.
21.01.2022 Temporary exclusion of minors at the Great Western Hotel. You couldn’t make this up if you tried. As some would know the GWH was the subject of a targeted Licensing operation by local Police on Wednesday. The licence for the hotel dates back to 1953 and has operated according to it ever since. ... Much to our astonishment, it has been indicated by Police that the licence does not stipulate minors are allowed to frequent the premises and as such, a long list of Publicans, Patrons and indeed Police have been ignorant to this for nearly seventy years. Where we stand? Until further notice, we have been told not to allow minors entry to any section of the GWH or we will face hefty fines. The matter is currently with the office of Liquor and Gaming for clarification. You may wonder why we are being so open with the details of this situation. It is to be transparent with our patrons and to avoid rumours and innuendo. We are a family business and enjoy the fact that families come to our hotel every day to dine and enjoy themselves. It’s quite distressing we have to put a hold on that. In the meantime, the GWH is open to all persons over 18 years of age. We will let you know when families can return. Thanks for reading.
21.01.2022 Update on Licensing issue re Under 18’s being allowed to return to the GWH. Paperwork has been lodged with the Office of Liquor & Gaming to address this anomaly. The process takes time and we have been advised it will be a minimum of four weeks from yesterday so we are hoping for an October resolution. The mystery of a licence being ok for over 70 years and then all of a sudden being not, may never be resolved so we are rolling with the punches and advice. ... Be sure, we will have a promotion & food specials when the kids are allowed back.

04.01.2022 Hi all. I’m sure everyone is wondering why the Western is having a temporary siesta. In the interest of being transparent & avoiding rumour and innuendo, here is an update. Firstly, it is not Covid 19 related. There are no health issues at play here. Basically, our family business has been targeted by local authorities and a thorough licensing audit is being conducted. Some matters are easily rectified however some are more complex. We are spending the day dealing with a le...gal issue dating back to 1953 regarding a liquor licence condition. When we believe we are right to open the bar again & avoid threatened fines, we will. This should be by tomorrow. In the meantime, food will available tonight for takeaway at a minimum. Lastly, on a few occasions over recent times, we have had to ask the Police for assistance to deal with violent patrons. These matters were out of our control however it makes us a target of authorities & here we are. We ask that all of our patrons keep this in mind and respect our business by adhering to Covid restrictions, abiding by RSA guidelines eg accepting being cut off & leaving the premises when asked to etc. Thanks for reading. Licensee.
