22.01.2022 The Greek Museum of Adelaide is organizing an exhibition, which will last two weeks. The Museum Exhibition will be open from Saturday, December 19, until Saturday, January 2, at the Flambouro Hall, 18 Fulton St. Glenelg North. Come and admire the exhibits of the Museum.... Most of the exhibits are family heirlooms of a traditional nature, brought by Greek immigrants living in various cities in Australia.You will also see exhibits created in Australia by Greek expatriate artists. You will also see exhibits donated by artists from Greece, which kindly donated to our newly established Museum. During the two weeks of the exhibition, we will have evenings of Greek cinema with films and documentaries, while we will also have lectures related to Greek culture. The dates of these nights will be announced in a few days.

The craftsman Daedalus carved wooden sculptures for King Minos of Crete, while the ancient Greeks made wooden statues. In the Byzantine years the art of wood carving was very flourishing. Carpentry works have been preserved in Greece since the 16th century (church doors, iconostasis, church furniture, etc.). However, the great development of wood carving occurs in the 18th century due to economic prosperity, social upheavals, and building upheaval. The themes of folk wood carvings are the traditional symbols: the peacock, the sun, the mermaid, the biceps, the snake, the dragons, the cypresses, also ornamental motifs with ancient origins such as zigzag, wolf's teeth, triangles, squares, crosses, helices, the meanders. In the iconostasis-temples there are themes from the Scriptures, scenes from everyday life, plant motifs, pots, flowers, animals, reptiles, all creatures of nature and imagination. (. ) The Greek Museum of Adelaide in the exhibition of December 2020 at Flabouro Hall, will screen for the first time in Australia the excellent documentary: 1000m of time A documentary / film by Maro Anastopoulou, shot in Geraki of Laconia, about the work of the Dutch Archaeological Team, which has been active in the area for the last decades, discovering many ancient finds and enriching the history of the area. Mrs. Helen Kari,... a distinguished artist living in Adelaide, donated to the Greek Museum her works on Greek Mythology and in particular the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur of Knossos. The style is "Mixed Media" Treats oil, acrylics, pencil, collage and other materials. The works were created in 2002. The "Greek Museum of Adelaide Inc." participates in the Internet Exhibition of Works of Art to Celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821. With the cooperation and support of the world-renowned Historian-Painter Artist, from Cyprus, Mr. Panagiotis Hatzidakis. The works of the Artist are exhibited online on the Website of the Greek Museum of Adelaide, as well as Three original works of the same Artist are donated to our Museum.
