10.01.2022 Featured in Luc Bessons’s classic film, The Big Blue (or Le Gran Blu) , Amorgos is the easternmost island of the Cyclades Island group. It is shaped like a giant croissant and has a high ridge which runs almost the entire length of the island. This makes for some spectacular views. It has some fantastic walks, a wonderful Chora (village capital) that is elevated enough to get snow in winter and a famous Unesco world heritage listed Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa built in...to the cliffs 300m above the sea! In the past Amorgos was home to wreckers and pirates. Apparently the population today are descendants of these outlaws Maybe this is why it has a wild feel to it! Don’t worry, I have never been attacked by pirates when visiting ;). Actually, the locals are very friendly, warm and open. This is why it is up there as one of my favourite islands in Greece. The island can be visited from one week trips from Paros or two week trips from Athens. Contact me today to organise your visit to wild and beautiful Amorgos!
