08.01.2022 The 25th of March 1821 commemoration is of religious and national importance for Hellenism. Hellenes around the globe celebrate on this day the Annunciation of Our Lady and the proclamation of the Modern Hellenic State, hence why we feel this milestone is a very important one. This Commemoration gives us the opportunity to promote, educate and enhance the knowledge or understanding of our third, fourth and subsequent generations of what happened in 1821 thus ensuring the sig...nificance of this historical event is not lost. In 2021 we respect our history, we remember our ancestors, we showcase Greece and we plan for our future. Despite the difficult and unprecedented times that we are all experiencing with Covid 19, the Organisational Committee for Greek National Day is still planning ahead for a bumper 2021. We certainly hope that this pandemic will not effect the many planned events for next year. The committee is proud to present the official Logo that has been adopted for all the events in the official Australian Calendar. The council called for submissions from Greek Australian graphic artists who came up with various designs and logos. The successful artist is a 29 year old Greek Australian who resides in Victoria namely Ms. Paula Sagiadellis Jermenis. SYMBOLISM Her design is centred around the Bicentennial Anniversary with the main focus being the number 200 and the two zeros showcasing the symbolic Olive Branch. Both zeros are intertwined symbolizing the eternal bonds between the two nations Greece and Australia using the National Greek Colours ( Navy Blue and White ) and the National Australian Colours, Dark Blue, Red and White ). The Logo also has the Holy Cross symbolising faith

01.01.2022 We take this opportunity to inform the members of our Community and broader Greek Australian public that it is with deep regret that we are informing you of the cancellation of the Independence Day Parade for 2020. After lengthy discussions the Organisational Committee for Greek National Day fully understands the potential risk for the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) during this event. The decision to cancel was also based on information provided by Medical Pra...ctitioners, the Ministry of Health, Church Leaders, School Principals and a lot of feedback from the general School population. The committee has not taken this decision lightly, however understands that the safety of our community is paramount. We recognize that the timing of this decision may have significantly inconvenienced many of you. However, this decision was made out of deep concern for the health and well-being of our children, Grandparents and the greater Greek community as well as the Melbourne community at large.
