21.01.2022 F I X | Brewed in Greece. FIX Hellas, the first + most historic Greek beer is a premium lager beer ideal for any time of the day. Its soft flavour has a balance...d bitterness enhancing the pleasant flavours that emerge during the yeast fermentation + a rounded long-lasting aftertaste. Next time you pop in to pick up your Stalactites feast, throw a few of these in as well #stalacitesrestaurant

21.01.2022 Our City is on its knees, with business hanging on by a thread and the community anxious about the future. We must work urgently together: this is not the time ...for delay or division. We are talking about people’s lives and livelihoods. On behalf of business owners and workers in #Melbourne, I am calling on the State Government to work with us urgently on two things: 1. Immediate additional financial assistance for businesses prevented from operating due to restrictions; AND 2. A commitment to continuous review and a more flexible approach which allows businesses to reopen sooner in a COVID-responsible way. If the daily average number of cases drops more rapidly than stated in the roadmap, then hospitality and retail should be able to open sooner, including with indoor patrons. I am also calling for consistency. If the national definition for hotspots is 10 cases per day for 3 days, why not use this benchmark for reopening businesses and industries such as retail and hospitality? I will raise these ideas in my next meeting with the Premier. To keep Melbourne afloat, our City needs to have a substantial Christmas trading period. The health message must remain strong, but we also need to do everything we can to help businesses survive so they can open their doors when it's safe to do so.

16.01.2022 Victoria has always been the cultural and dining capital of the nation. No question about it. But there's no doubt the hospitality industry has been among the h...ardest hit by this pandemic. That's why today we announced our plan to move dining outdoors as the weather warms up. We'll provide grants to help restaurants, pubs and cafes with the practical things to make this work umbrellas, outdoor furniture, screens and other equipment. Local councils will receive funding to update permits, convert streets into hospitality zones and help with compliance. We'll also provide grants for COVIDSafe events and activities to get people out and about when it's safe to do so. Live music with dinner. Bands and shows. This is about helping businesses reopen sooner and safely serve more customers than they'd be able to indoors. This will completely transform our city and our state. And I'm backing the people who turned laneways into a destination to come up with something pretty special.

16.01.2022 Starting next week, single people living on their own and solo parents will be able to nominate one friend or family member for their bubble and that person can visit them at home.

14.01.2022 The very first Spoonville was started in Winnersh, Berkshire, England by a very creative lady Karen who came up with the idea of making Spoony characters from wooden spoons as a way of cheering up her local community during Covid-19 lockdown. Is there a Spoonville near you?

13.01.2022 I acknowledge the Premier’s announcement of a roadmap with timelines to ease restrictions in our community and reopen our economy. While the roadmap provides c...larity for the staged reopening of businesses, we know these timelines will continue to have a devastating impact on businesses within the City of Melbourne, particularly hospitality and retail, with many likely to shut permanently before restrictions lift. I am calling for more direct financial support from the State Government and more flexibility for business to reopen sooner if case numbers go down faster than anticipated. I'll be taking up the Premier's offer for more consultation on the roadmap to discuss ways we can provide extra, practical support to businesses to help them hang on and be ready to reopen when restrictions ease. We will review our budget to find ways to further cut costs for businesses and provide support for reactivating our city. #melbourne #roadmaptorecovery

11.01.2022 City of Melbourne Councillors last night considered its COVID-19 Reactivation and Recovery Plan, which will provide proactive and practical ways to encourage people back into the city safely.

11.01.2022 The $3b in direct financial support for businesses, including cash grants and tax relief, announced today by the Premier will help businesses survive until they... are able to reopen in coming weeks. Thanks to the Victorian Government for listening to businesses about what's needed to assist with cash flow and so they can open their doors when restrictions ease. I welcome the news that there will also be a package for sole traders announced soon and look forward to seeing the detail. We want to get Melbourne back in the game and we need our businesses to kick goals.

10.01.2022 In Greece, souvlaki is an integral part of the street food scene + refers to meat, usually pork, on a skewer. Here, our souvas with fun na...mes like ‘Arnie’ + ‘Kotter’ from the beloved 70s program, Welcome Back, Kotter have been Melbourne-fied. Plus we encourage sides of chippies #becauseyum Choose from chicken or lamb (or a mix) that’s been marinated in more than 20 herbs and spices + cooked to succulent perfection on the spit. We'll then jam it into a warm pita + add some lettuce, tomato, onion + tasty garlicky tzatziki. #hellagoodmelb See more

07.01.2022 THE HEART OF GREEK MELBOURNE GLOWS BLUE In the heart of the historic Lonsdale Street Greek precinct in Melbourne’s CBD, the Greek Centre, the Greek Community of... Melbourne’s HQ turned blue last night. In commemoration of the bicentenary of the Greek War of Independence and upon the eve of the Greek National holiday, members of the Greek Community of Melbourne’s Board of Directors and staff all gathered in Lonsdale Street to see the building that features Discobolus on its facade, turn blue at the flick of a switch. It’s symbolic, but it is also important that we mark our bicentenary in every way we can. Our committees and staff have been exhaustive in preparing a series of events that will mark the bicentenary and the events to date have surpassed every expectation. We look forward to celebrating not only the next few days, but the whole of the year with our fellow Hellenes and Philhellenes. said Greek Community president, Bill Papastergiadis. The Greek Centre will be lit up for the whole of this auspicious week as a part of the Community’s 200 year program which continues on the 25th of March with a feast day church service at the historic Evangelismos church and the GCM’s bicentenary commemoration of the Greek War of Independence in Lansdowne Street, adjacent to Evangelismos this Sunday 28 March from 11:30AM to 3:30PM.
