09.01.2022 There are a few new measures and situations that have developed overnight, which I would just like to take a minute to detail. Yesterday I said Western Australi...a is facing a war, one that we have never experienced before. I know this is tough. I know this is confronting. I know I am asking a lot of everyone in our community. But we need everyone to do their bit. That means listening to the advice, following the rules and performing your civic duty as Western Australians. Thank you to those people who are adhering to social distancing measures but too many people in our community are disregarding the social distancing measures. By doing so, they are not just putting themselves at risk, they are putting the lives of older and vulnerable Australians at risk. The majority of you are doing the right thing. But to the minority: you need to listen to the advice. This is a matter of life and death. So, I call on every West Australian: Do the right thing. Follow the rules, and if someone is ignoring them, call them out. It is our duty, as Western Australians. ---- RESTRICTIONS As the Prime Minister announced last night, at 12 noon today we will be moving into Stage 1 of new restrictions on social gatherings. We need to expect that these restrictions could be in place for at least six months. These decisions are based on the best medical advice in the country. The following facilities will need to close: Pubs, bars and registered and licenced clubs Gyms and indoor sporting venues Cinemas, entertainment venues, and casinos Cultural institutions including libraries, museums, art galleries Funerals in enclosed spaces. Excludes very small groups and where the 1 person per 4 square metre of floor space rule applies Large religious gatherings and places of worship Restaurants and cafes will be restricted to takeaway and home delivery. This is regrettable and very, very sad. I feel terrible about this. Coming to this decision, with the Prime Minister and other State Leaders, was not something that I wanted to be doing - but it is necessary to protect us all. If we dont go down this path, more and more people will be infected with COVID-19 and it will risk putting significant pressure on our health system. This is about saving lives. Its as simple as that. Unfortunately it means devastation for many businesses and their employees. My heart goes out to those people, who have built up their businesses from scratch and now have had their whole lives turned upside down, because of a virus we had never heard of just a couple months ago. This stage of restrictions will change the Western Australian life as we know it and we might need to go further. Stage two of restrictions, if we need to go down that path, will be more extreme and impact our lives even more. ---- SCHOOLS Last night, National Cabinet agreed, based on the consensus expert medical advice from the countrys chief health professionals that children should continue to go to school. Closing schools is a last resort, but we know many parents are concerned and want to keep their children home. For that reason, we are relaxing the law to provide parents with choice - if parents decide to not send their kids to school, we will not enforce the law that requires you to do so. BUT if parents do decide to keep their children home, parents MUST abide by all other laws, including all new social distances rules that have been introduced. If you decide to keep your kids at home, they need to stay home. Having kids seeing their friends, or hanging out at the shops, or being looked after by elderly grandparents will all make the situation far worse than having them at school. WA Schools will remain open through to the end of the current school term, which is just under three weeks away. Many non-government schools will provide access to online and distance learning. In the public system, we will provide access to resources for parents and students, so they have the option to continue with an education program for the remainder of the term, if parents choose to keep their kids home. A new website with resources for parents to help their kids continue learning at home will be released today. I understand many parents and education staff are worried. But I assure you, we dont make these decisions lightly. They are made based on the best medical advice in the nation. I want to thank every staff member in our schools, Teachers, Education Assistants and all staff. Thank you for what you have been doing, from the bottom of my heart. ---- COVID-19 TESTING IN WA Our testing criteria have been agreed to as part of a national regime, but with growing community concern about COVID-19, the Minister for Health has asked the Department of Health to investigate a new testing regime with broader criteria. The Department is now urgently auditing supplies including swabs and PPE to determine exactly how far the regime can be extended. ---- MAGNIFICA I also want to inform you all of a new development with cruise ships that has just come to light this morning. This morning we were advised that the Magnifica cruises ship that has been in Australian waters for some time, carrying over 1,700 passengers wants to arrive at Fremantle Port within the next 24 hours, or as early as tonight. Currently, more 250 passengers have reported upper respiratory issues. I am advised all passengers are from overseas, Germans, French and Italians. This morning I have contacted the Prime Minister and spoken to Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton to explain that my priority is to protect Western Australians. I will not allow for what happened in Sydney to happen here - passengers or crew will not be allowed to disembark. This is non-negotiable. Options are currently being developed between the Commonwealth, the defence forces and the State Government. We will work with medical authorities to provide assistance to those in urgent need. This is an emerging and an evolving issue, by my first priority will be to protect Western Australians. We will work with the Commonwealth through the day to come up with a plan.

03.01.2022 Hello Green Head Sporting Club members, While we are fortunate to live in a relatively cocooned little town, theres still a need to be concerned. What strange and unusual times we are facing. As a nation we find ourselves in an environment that is constantly shifting, and we are required to be agile and adaptable, constantly on alert for the next random shift, ready to keep the wheels of our lives turning and hopefully moving forwards.... As ever, we have the health and safety of our members, volunteers and the broader community at the forefront of our minds. For now, we continue to welcome you to the Club. Things like extra cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces, are happening behind the scene. Our volunteers are well briefed on social distancing and are observing all appropriate hygiene measures; we respectfully ask our members to do the same. If you are unwell, please refrain from coming over to the Club. One volunteer has pulled out due to health concerns, and as things change, it may be that we will be unable to open. At time of sending this email the bar will be open this Friday 20th ........but that could change. As to the following Friday nights, the decision to open will be made on the day Unfortunately all our planning for balmy April Saturday afternoon bbqs on our new barbie, bocce, ladder golf, darts and other sports minded events will have to be put on hold. Bowls have cancelled their Welcome Day scheduled for 16 May. Of course, while we are hopeful of some stability to the situation, we understand that things can change very quickly BUT .. when things do settle, what a party well be having. In the meantime, stay safe, care for each other and respect those that do have health concerns and need to take extra caution. We will keep you updated as to whats happening. Check out our Face Book page. Glenn, Penne, Robyn & Charles
