25.01.2022 With reference to the article the Ararat Advertiser, 22nd April 16 ‘‘Gate Fight to Continue for Green Hill Lake Reserve’ and the comments made by our Mayor, Cr. Hooper, in regard to same. The Mayor stated that ‘’there was no intention to close any part of the reserve to either foot traffic or cyclists. Apparently the Mayor did not read the Officer Report in the agenda for the Ararat Rural City Council meeting of the 16 Feb ’16 which clearly stated for Option 1 that two mecha...Continue reading

25.01.2022 Time to update info about Green Hill Lake and what the Green Hill Lake Development Board have been doing lately. The playground area at the lake has recently had some new additions in the way of a large red gum seat which the Hopkins Prison has donated and installed for us. Also a free gas BBQ has been installed by the GHLDB in the pavilion which the aquatic club financed and installed a number of years ago. New 'Replas' seating and tables have been purchased by the GHLDB and... installed on concrete slabs in the green lawned area near the BBQ making a very user friendly picnic area for all to enjoy. Another green lawned and free gas BBQ picnic area with a shelter exists at the 'Lions' pavilion. More fire pits have now been installed around the camping areas and about 20 are now available. Owing to vandalism, graffiti, theft and hooning our Board have decided that security cameras may deter these perpetrators. These cameras are currently being installed. Favourable comments on the scenic attraction of the lake and the unregulated camping arrangements are forthcoming from many visiting campers and locals. The birdlife also often gets mentioned and the general tidiness and relaxed camping regulations and clean amenities block with hot water are also a regular topic. Over the last few weeks camper numbers have increased with many campers from interstate calling in. These campers are spending heavily in Ararat and in many cases make GHL their base for exploring attractions in Ararat, the Grampians, Mount Cole, Mount Langi Ghiran, small townships in the municipality the new wind farms to name a few. Although the camping at GHL is free the Board has a donation box on the front of the first amenities block for those campers who appreciate our efforts and realise that to keep these places operating requires some financial support. Most campers contribute $5 per site per night and this is the only income that the GHLDB receives. Ararat can look forward to much business coming into the town this year with boating, fishing and extra camping and day trippers visiting the lake again. The Green Hill Lake Development Board have worked very hard to maintain the beaches over the past few years and have constantly removed new growth trees and noxious weeds which have been popping up. Unfortunately the water level is only at about 50% at this time however fisheries have seen fit to stock the lake with both brown and rainbow trout back in July. The Board is constantly looking for new members to help out at the lake and have a say in our endeavours to improve the area. We have a numbers of retired people who like to keep active in their retirement and spend time helping by picking up rubbish or mowing grass etc. We also would like to attract some younger members to give us their ideas and to be around to keep our group going in the future. If interested then contact us on 0408 501 016. (This article updated 15/11/19)

01.01.2022 Thank to all who took the time to turn out to the Council Green Hill Lake meeting. Seventy people all against closing any part of the lake - it was magnificent and great to see so many people who believe in Ararat and what a place like GHL can do for the town- so on behalf of GHLDB thank you all.
