24.01.2022 A bit of measuring and planning at this stage and its starts to take on a new Character
24.01.2022 New owners of this mammoth 1200m2 property wanted to collaborate with me to take the best elements of the old garden and design a new native, sustainable and inviting space. For this knock-down rebuild project I reshaped the garden building a series of garden rooms supported by new contours, decks, gates, retaining walls, paving, stairs, screens and beds. I am continuing to work with the owner to help the space evolve into an established garden.
22.01.2022 Pro bono project with amazing Glass Blower Tim who toiled away with me to construct this awesome pizza oven. After a few trials the oven is now a proven success producing in three hours 130 pizzas of the highest quality for the North Ainslie annual fiesta! Note the use of my favourite Canberra Reds all reused and bower birded from various hideaways.
21.01.2022 My experimental copper gate á la Grand Designs. Using our recycled hot water system. I am a self-confessed bower bird and wherever I can I reuse materials.
21.01.2022 See it all started with a cage to put my rocks in. This I have now learned is called Gabion. Of course its derived from an Italian word and of course it was used with cannons in the 16th century. Aside from that we have seen it more on the side of the road until lately when its been popping up in peoples back yards (well sometimes their front yards).
20.01.2022 You can only be happy when it turns out like this!
16.01.2022 Some of us are interested enough that in all demolition comes the good stuff! Warped unusual and a bugger to work with you have to see potential in it otherwise it just ends up in landfill or as mulch on your garden.
14.01.2022 Some of my gates and screens Always built to last and to allow wide access and security.
12.01.2022 Complete design and construction for this project which involved addressing the serious incline in the backyard to create a liveable and welcoming garden. At the start getting to the back was like climbing Everest and the owner rarely ventured to the summit. Now we have conquered the slopes creating a manageable low-maintenance area for a non-gardener it is a lawn even suitable for a game of soccer. Almost all of the materials used in this project were found on site amongst the weeds. With great pleasure I am now designing the next phase of the garden.
09.01.2022 Reuse in action yet again with this fire drum. Secrets of construction cannot be revealed but needless to say the joy of the drum in winter is always shared.
07.01.2022 Getting closer. Now I'm round the bend it's a running pretty sweet.
05.01.2022 Then the hard part comes.... H'mm what timber will I use? This cant just be a retaining wall it has to be something else.... What could it turn into?
05.01.2022 The existing rock wall was in serious disrepair with water issues decaying mortar. This project removed damaged mortar, rebuilt and reinforced the wall where required and repointed all mortar joints. The wall repair corrected drainage issues to safeguard the wall for the future.
05.01.2022 Nice bit of a makeover and finishing of of paths. A fellow Canberra red brick collector using a famous Woble saying, "making good use of the things that we find" by putting reusing to good use. Can't do better aesthetically than the good old Canberra red.
04.01.2022 Nice bit of boulder soccer! What a result plantings by the owner and structure placed by Greenacres. Let's see what this one looks like in 12 months.
02.01.2022 As with all things that look good they are time consuming... The more time you take to make it pretty the better it looks really.
02.01.2022 looks like its on its way to be finished but this is where the hard work starts!
