24.01.2022 The place is going to be a mess with the latest works ... but hopefully it will be much better for it in the long run. We are replacing our old septic systems and installing a treatment system so we can recycle and reuse our water. The new system is an advanced secondary treatment plant with nutrient reduction. It will capture all our household water. When the water hits the tank, it starts to treat the treat the waste in an oxygen rich environment. The water is treated t...o a high quality for reuse, and then decanted in to a holding tank where the water is disinfected. It will then be used for subsurface irrigation in our paddocks so the water is being used. Hopefully the sheep will have greener pasture year round with the irrigation ... it will be good to reuse all of our treated grey water and to ensure that we aren't allowing any dirty run-off to enter the beautiful creek that is our back fence.
24.01.2022 We had some raw ingredients arrive today that we need to make some goodies from our beeswax. We will try making some candles, moisturiser and beeswax this weekend.
24.01.2022 I hate foxes. Jarrad heard a distressed ewe yesterday in the mid-afternoon. She had a lamb and was still birthing ... but a fox had already taken the baby. So sad! Anyone got any ideas on ways we can protect the sheep at lambing time? We lock them up over night, but I don't have any ideas for preventing foxes during the middle of the day.
24.01.2022 Jarrad and the boys were working on building a new bee stand today so we can move the bees from up the top to down in to paddock.
22.01.2022 Some of our beeswax cleaned and made in to molds.
21.01.2022 We have an Instagram account where we will be sharing more photos of our daily life on the farm with our animals and in the garden! Follow @green_acres_on_glenfern on Instagram to see these updates!
21.01.2022 The kids are patiently watching as each chick hatches.
20.01.2022 Jarrad and Jeremy finished the ceiling and walls in our new commercial kitchen this week. Jarrad has done the lighting and installed the extraction fan. Jobs left before we can move in: sand and paint the walls, followed by putting in the benches, shelves and sink. It’s feeling closer.
20.01.2022 The walk-in fridge and freezer are being installed tomorrow in our commercial kitchen. Both are 2.4m by 2.4m. Theyll be installed by Coolstore Construction, another local business. Jarrad is an electrician so he will do the electrical work (JBP Electrics). Jarrad's step brother David is a plumber at Veeken Plumbing, so he'll be helping out with installing the compressors, air con etc. Our neighbour Tim Freshney at Jim's Building Inspections and Alic Enterpise is providing advice to Jarrad on how to bring it all together. Makes it feel more special to have family and neighbours helping on it! Really excited to see this coming together! And to be supporting other local family businesses.

They are $10 and 2 or 3 layers depending on how thick the fabric is and we can send you photos of fabric we have available to you can choose what one you like.
18.01.2022 We have a new mailbox! Jarrad has just finished making it and put it up. What do you think? Do you think there would be any demand for a letterbox like this if he were to make more to order?
18.01.2022 We will be temporarily closed with the Stage 4 lockdown. Due to lockdown, we will not be able to continue farm gate sales.

15.01.2022 This May Gibbs illustration was part of a public health campaign by the New South Wales department of health to limit the spread of the Spanish flu in 1918-1919. Still relevant today. More information here: http://tlf.dlr.det.nsw.edu.au//C/R11338/object/r11010.html
15.01.2022 Thank you so much to the Sherbrooke Family & Childrens Centre for contacting us about working together to reduce food waste going to landfill and providing food scraps for our animals. We have some very happy pigs with veggie scraps.
14.01.2022 We spent last night trying out some of our new ingredients - the coconut oil, mango butter, shea oil, essential oils and vitamin E oil - to make things with our beeswax. Tamika, Brendan and Amy made beeswax lip balms. Tamika tried her hand at making a coconut and beeswax solid lotion bar while Brendan made a honey and beeswax solid lotion bar. While we were doing that, Jarrad made up a beeswax wood polish to use on his wooden drink coasters.

Walk in fridge and freezer hopefully to be installed this week or next! Lots more space to make and store our produce. #farmlife #commercialkitchen #farmfresh
13.01.2022 Daisy is now three months old so she’s starting to be weaned. She’s not very impressed with the idea. She’s turned in to a good alarm sheep bleating loudly at anyone who she sees in the hope they’ll take pity on her. If you visit and hear Daisy trying to get your attention, we’re sorry. On the other hand, if you visit with a kid who wants to give her a small bottle of milk, let us know and we will make up a bottle because our ears hurt.
13.01.2022 This lamb is getting very spoiled. Instead of sleeping in the shed she has taken up residence inside overnight.
12.01.2022 Fridge and freezer installed now! Floor ready. Jarrad just has to finish the walls. Hes also doing some electrical work, and then its ready for council certification. Hopefully will be ready to certify when we come out of lock down.
12.01.2022 Our gorgeous new lambs with the mums and lambs mowing the grass in our little orchard.
12.01.2022 Jarrad bought a laser etcher but we couldnt get it going. Our very clever lovely neighbor got it working for us. Jarrad has been playing with it tonight on some wood.
11.01.2022 Here are progress photos of two of the charcuterie boards Brendan and Jarrad poured the other day.
11.01.2022 Our new fire was installed yesterday! Looking forwards to the warmth of a wood fire again.

10.01.2022 We keep checking every morning if the last two ewes have had their lambs ... or if the two pigs have had their piglets ... any day now, but getting impatient.
09.01.2022 We have seasonal produce available. For more information including prices, have a look at our shop page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GreenAcresOnGlenfern/shop/
08.01.2022 Since we have had the quail, I’ve seen and heard a lot of comments about them. Quail eggs taste the same as chicken eggs in my opinion ... but a about 1/3 of the size and so cute. The nutritional value of quail eggs is very similar to chicken eggs. Quail eggs have a higher proportion of egg yolk to egg white, however, which makes some differences. For the same weight in quail and chicken eggs, some differences nutritionally are that... - quail eggs have less choline than chicken eggs. - quail eggs have twice as much iron and riboflavin than chicken eggs - quail eggs have about one and a third times the vitamin b12 of chicken eggs. Which basically means that an equivalent weight of quail or chicken eggs is fairly similar nutritionally.

07.01.2022 Kalina, Jeremy, Tamika and I spent the weekend making a new quail enclosure. Lots of fun working on it with the teenagers. We thought we could do it by ourselves while Jarrad kept going on other jobs ... but after the first quail escaped, Jarrad then fixed it up.
06.01.2022 The lip balm kits have been exceedingly popular. Do you want to do a DIY kit but don’t want to mix it yourself? We have put together a DIY lip balm gift bag. The bag contains a pre-filled lip balm tube and lip balm mixture to refill it. When your lip balm tube needs re-filling, gently melt the lip balm mixture in a double boiler (or leave in a small container in direct sun or other heat source). We find a 1ml syringe is the easiest way to add the melted mix to refill the tube. $10 a kit.
06.01.2022 Daisy brought some friends along when she came visiting today. At least theyre all getting friendlier.
06.01.2022 More progress on our commercial kitchen! We have the walk in fridge and freezer installed. The floor is polished concrete. The walls and ceiling are all insulated and clad and sealed. Lighting is in. Its feeling close!
05.01.2022 Our girls are getting big quickly! They arent using their heat lamp much any more. They are exploring more and loving flying on to the perches and ledges. As soon as Jarrad went in, the girls crowded around his feet. They are surprisingly friendly and dont mind being petted.
05.01.2022 Thank you so much to the Sherbrooke Family & Children's Centre for contacting us about working together to reduce food waste going to landfill and providing food scraps for our animals. We have some very happy pigs with veggie scraps.
