21.01.2022 After receiving quite a few phone calls from customers who have lodged their exemption application some time ago ( well past 10 to 20 days ) - either by paper or via the internet and have had no response from the council yet - there is a back log. Please feel free to contact to the council - perhaps via the council facebook page for a progress update. To those of you who have had your compost bin and Greenaway Bin sighted and have been granted an exemption . Thankyou for your efforts. !

21.01.2022 Bendigo Weekly has information regarding the exemptions from the Council organics program, in the letters to the editor page. http://www.bendigoweekly.com.au/n/letters-to-the-editor-194

16.01.2022 The Council staff are currently sending letters to residents that have been granted a green organics exemption, but not signed a statutory declaration. These threaten to reinstate the organics charge on the rate notice if the statutory declaration is not signed. I have been advised by another member of the community that this matter is currently under investigation by the Ombudsman’s office. The Council staff are aware of this, so to send out these letters now I believe, is ...a waste of ratepayer’s money. Common sense would say to hold over any action, until the Ombudsman provides advice on this issue. The Councillor discussions about completing a statutory declaration as part of the green organics exemption process, occurred at a non decision making forum on the 22/2/2016. It was not included in the process voted on by the Councillors at the formal decision making meeting of the 2/3/2016. Residents that have been granted an exemption have met the 6 step procedure outlined at the Council meeting on the 2/3/2016. The Council agenda of that meeting also states: This policy provides a rationale and framework for an equitable, transparent and consistent approach to exemptions from the Kerbside Organics Collection Service undertaken by the City of Greater Bendigo ('City'), so the community can be assured that standards are met. Implementing a decision made behind closed doors is not part of any transparent process. I have asked the Council staff for the legislative basis for them to vary a decision, voted on by the Councillors at the public Council decision making meeting on 2/3/2016. I respectfully requested also, that the organics collection charges not be reinstated on the rate notice of any ratepayers, pending any advice from the Council staff or the Ombudsman’s office. As always, I will keep you up to date with the response that I receive. Andrea Metcalf Whipstick Ward Candidate Epsom

09.01.2022 Greenaway Bins is currently averaging 15-30 tonnes per week of green waste diverted from Bendigo landfill. this has been a huge dollar saving for the Council and City's ratepayers . WE have a proven Best Practice business model, that removes the need for expensive, labour intensive sorting of contaminates. WE have low fuel and transport costs ...due to processing locally. 07.01.2022 To all our loyal customers and the Bendigo Public - We are going to continue and are asking you, the ratepayers to show your support for Small Business instead of bowing to local government standover tactics. YES- Our service is different to the councils - Unfortunately, we are unable to take food scraps, due to EPA laws and because there is no facility within our city able to receive it. OURS IS BETTER ...... We encourage people to deal with their food waste in their own bac...kyard - in preference to the Council's option of out of sight out of mind, and their VERY COSTLY decision to TRANSPORT IT AWAY AND DUMP IT IN ANOTHER MUNICIPALITIY. While we have for the last number of years set our price at a steady $110 per year , to show the public we are serious, we are offering to put our new rate at $85.00 per year. This would then make our service $1 cheaper than the council service. THIS WILL GIVE THE CITYOF GREATER BENDIGO RATEPAYERS A COMPETITIVE CHOICE FOR THE DISPOSAL OF THEIR GREEN WASTE.

06.01.2022 AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM EPSOM RESIDENT, ANDREA METCALF: Shortly our councillors will be voting on the format of the green organic waste service for the City of Greater Bendigo. Imagine if the ratepayers of Bendigo got to vote on this, would the outcomes be the same? The bin audits that were conducted for the City of Greater Bendigo in the trial areas showed:...Continue reading

02.01.2022 Green waste truths - The Council Organics trial is not compulsory, so if you don't want to participate - ask the Council to collect their bin. See letter to the Editor - Bendigo Weekly "I think it’s important that residents in the trial area for the green waste bin collection understand that participation in this trial is not compulsory. It is indeed unfortunate that these residents were given that impression." Councillor Helen Leach.
