25.01.2022 Filming with my new friends in Port Fairy! Cycling Without Age is an amazing project that gets people of all ages out and about, enjoying nature and sharing a story along the way. Everyone benefits from this project - I love it! And I experienced a personalised tour around town, hearing stories from ladies who have grown up in Port Fairy! Thanks to the South West Community Foundation for helping this project get wheels! There's no emoji for a trishaw.. yet. <3

22.01.2022 Who are these superstars? You might have seen the Colac Driver Reviver program operating between Melbourne and the southwest coast. Turns out these humble volunteers are lifesavers - literally. Check in for a coffee and a laugh next time you head Colac way. Thanks to the South West Community Foundation for funding this project - they make cool local stuff happen!

21.01.2022 New life unfurls at Cobboboonee National Park. A while back, I had the honour and privilege of capturing the ten year anniversary of this beautiful forest becoming a National Park. The event was also a Memorial to Doug Phillips. I never met Doug, but on the day I heard many stories about this man’s dedication to protect this forest. ... People gathered together under the tree branches that Doug and his community helped to protect. The people at this event were farmers, business owners and industry workers who all shared a mutual appreciation for the value that this forest brings to their lives. This post is dedicated to all the protectors. #wildernesssociety #cobboboonee #nationalpark #memorial #nature #workingtogether #ferns #pterophyta #newlife #stretch #protectors #forest #temperate

20.01.2022 Some of this aerial footage was captured along the Great Australian Bight, a place we have managed to protect from oil and gas drilling on multiple occasions by raising our voices collectively... Some of this footage was also captured in Westernport Bay, Victoria - a Ramsar listed wetlands which is currently under threat of a gas development by AGL. Please raise your voice to protect this special area, home to many beautiful people, plants and critters! #dji #dronestagram #aerial #aerialphotography #droneoftheday #dronelife #dronephotography #drones #dronefly #phantom4 #djiglobal #dronegear #djiphantom #dronesdaily #photography #travel #fly #victoria #southaustralia #landscape #video #ocean #savewesternport #fightforthebight #coast #takethreeforthesea #phillipisland #scenic #wildernesssociety #fightforthebight

19.01.2022 Warrnambool College invited me to share some experiences with their Year 12 Media students. We had lots of fun talking all things video. I'm looking forward to seeing their video projects later in the year!

16.01.2022 I stood on cracked, dry earth and watched the rain pour.

15.01.2022 Feeling the love with this project! Brendan introduced Cycling Without Age to Port Fairy - an initiative invented in Copenhagen that allows residents of all ages to ride around town and enjoy the wind in their hair. You might see Brendan riding happy, rosy-cheeked passengers around Port Fairy on a trishaw, which is a three-wheeled passenger cart. Looking forward to completing this film for the #southwestcommunityfoundation, who helped to bring this initiative to life. . . . .... #cyclingwithoutage #portfairy #cycling #trishaw #community #forthelove #cyclinglife #bike #ageless #livethelife #volunteering #theideasplace #happyfaces #allabilities #friendship #communitylove See more

08.01.2022 Cycling Without Age is a Copenhagen based initiative that was introduced to Port Fairy by Brendan Donahoo and the help of community funding inititatives like the South West Community Foundation, who help local projects find their wheels. The incidental connections that are made when you take a ride out around town are heartwarming - we met three people within the space of 10 minutes who were eager to chat and hadn't seen Margaret in years! <3

08.01.2022 I'd like to say a massive THANKS to Moreland City Council who have just funded the development of a Green Collar Productions online learning video and editing portal for my website! This is going to be so much fun. And will help me to continue creating films for social change. A few months ago I had a brainstorm about ways to keep my business alive - I lost around ninety percent of my clients due to working restrictions. ... So I created a survey to find out what people would want out of an online course/tutorials (thank you to everyone who participated - there were so many of you!!) I have since been asked many times about where I'm at with this. Well, from the feedback I received I have almost finished developing a program that combines as many of the most constructive responses in the survey as possible, from timing and flexibility to content and detail. I want the content to be applicable to someone like me, who learnt from scratch. I'm proud to be doing this in a male dominated industry and bringing my science background and love for our natural world into a visual medium. Exciting collaborations coming soon! Looking forward to catching up with my Moreland crew again. It's been so long and to be frank, a logistical nightmare!

08.01.2022 #showyourstripes These stripes came together on my wall this morning, mask, bag and shadow. But #showyourstripes is also a campaign inspired by data visualizations from Ed Hawkins, a climate scientist and lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Sixth Assessment Report. He has spearheaded the creation of warming stripes graphics, which are visual representations of the change in temperature as measured in each country over at least the past 100 years... (search online for more info!). Many would agree that the IPCC report is too conservative. This may be true. But what I like is that there are individuals within organisations who are taking on initiatives by themselves and going beyond the confines of their workplace roles. Makes me consider what else I can do as an individual for a number of critical causes. #ipcc #climatechange #renewableenergy #modeling #breakthemould #globalwarming #semantics #time2change #bag #mask #shadow #sunlight #morning

06.01.2022 This is an Eleven-armed (sometimes fourteen-armed) Sea Star! To celebrate my love for Sea Stars in general, here are five interesting Sea Star facts: 1. Sea Stars can smell food with their arms. They eat crabs, abalone, worms and other yummy things. ... 2. They eat by pushing their stomach out of their mouth, surrounding their prey with their stomach and turning it into a yummy milkshake by dissolving their food with acidic juices and enzymes. Delicious! 3. Sea Stars can reproduce themselves by breaking away an arm that will sometimes develop into another Sea Star. Handy! 4. If you think eleven arms is a lot, there are species with up to 40 or 50 arms. This is probably more arms than food it can eat. 5. Sea Stars have eyes but they are used to detect light and dark, not detail. This Sea Star is native to Port Phillip Bay and was snapped just before sunset on a particularly chilly evening. Worth jumping in, as always! #seastar #portphillipbay #verycold #clearwater #take3forthesea #ocean #sea #nature #photooftheday #igdaily #canon5dmiii #love #pier #orange #frekofnature

05.01.2022 Today I attended a Black Lives Matter protest. Family members of Wurundjeri, Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta, Noongar and other communities who have been killed in police custody spoke to a crowd of tens of thousands. The death of George Floyd has resurfaced pain that these people have experienced within their own families. I can’t imagine what it must be like to speak to a crowd of thousands about a fallen loved one - they were very courageous. One sign at the protest said: 43...2 TOO MANY". That’s because 432 #blackdeathsincustody have occurred without one perpetrator. I find that incomprehensible. I would like to reiterate the sentiment of another sign that said, I will never understand. This is true for me. I never will but I will do my best to listen and stand up. Some people chose not to attend the rally today because of Covid-19. That is totally reasonable - health is fundamental. And according to some reports, cases could be ten times higher than what is officially recorded (even though zero cases were recorded today). People have been doing an amazing job at keeping each other safe and I saw that at the protest today as well. I rode my bike in to avoid interacting on public transport and managed to take these photos from the outskirts without finding myself in the crowd. I also wore a mask, as did almost everyone I saw. During my ride home I met a beautiful family who wanted to attend the protest but couldn’t. I stopped to talk with mum, Catie and daughter, Brigit who felt compelled to do something in solidarity so they painted ‘Black Lives Matter’ alongside the train line. Catie said, I work at a library so I couldn’t attend because I work with vulnerable people but I just wanted to do something. There is a lot of love and power around right now. I hope today was healing for those who need it most #BlackLivesMatter #BlackMindsMatter #noprideingenocide See more

03.01.2022 Being in the ocean is a sensory overload. It’s where I go to submerge and reset. I don’t feel a separation between me and the sea. It’s like a big welcoming hug. 02.01.2022 On World Oceans Day I've decided to dedicate a post to our molluscs. Why? Because they're the cleaners of the sea! While you're not watching (or maybe while you are!) molluscs, like these blue mussels, are actively feeding off the nutrients that run into our bay. Or take the Angasi - a native flat oyster that pumps out 200 litres of clean water per day and squeezes out nutrient-rich 'pellets' that are then eaten by other sea animals. We usually see molluscs on rocky re...efs, jetties or other surfaces like the pontoon in this photograph. But their habitat used to extend much further. In 2016, an interesting study looked at the use of shellfish in Victorian waters of local Aboriginal communities to help assess the habitat of a select group of molluscs. According to this research, it turns out that the blue mussel and native oyster reef habitat is now functionally extinct in comparison to pre-European settlement. Specifically, more than 95% has been lost. This is due to the combined effects of dredge fishing in early colonial days and the mussel and scallop dredging industry of the 1960s-90s. So what happened after the '90s? Well, it's likely that changes to the dredging industry have helped. But ongoing issues with water quality, diseases and introduced species have hindered the recovery of the populations. There is good news - since 2017, there have been attempts to bring back the oyster and examples of reef recovery in Victorian coastal environments, though it's unknown how these will go in the long term. If you're into mussels and want to support sustainable aquaculture, check out Flinders Conchilia. Mussel farmer Harry says in terms of sustainability, these tick all the boxes! #shell #shellfish #natural #history #bivalves #animal #ocean #scallops #mollusca #food #seafood #mussels #savewesternport #takethreeforthesea #wildlifephotography #naturewelove #underwaterphotography #waterworld #victoria #westernportbay #portphillipbay #bluemussels See more

02.01.2022 This is Jessie Ford! She's a Melbourne-based botanical illustrator. What I love about Jessie's art are the tiny details she observes in natural forms, as well as her adoration for all botanical life. Here, we were filming her online watercolour course. She takes us step by step through her technique, guiding us through her process of creating beautiful botanical art. Check out her illustrations and send her a message if you’re keen to learn more.
