19.01.2022 It's World Environment Day ! This is the day set aside by the United Nations for environmental action, so we're sharing the impact Green Collect has toward creating a world without waste. We'd love to hear from you too! What actions are you taking to create a positive change for our environment? How are you celebrating World Environment Day?

19.01.2022 This week is National Recycling Week, and to celebrate we're sharing some of Green Collect's big achievements in transforming waste items into recyclable commodities. As a social enterprise leading innovation in the resource recovery sector, we've spent years developing our systems so that even the most hard-to-recycle items are kept out of landfill. Items we recycle include IT equipment Video cassettes batteries cardboard folders light bulbs CDs and DVDs Printe...r cartridges Electronics and cables. Did you know that we assess every item for it's best environmental outcome? Our preferred outcomes are reuse or upcycling, but for those items that can't fit these categories, we prepare them for recycling. Many items require some form of manual deconstruction before they can be recycled, and our processing team are experts in dismantling folders, media, and electronics so they can be sent on for responsible recycling. Green Collect choses only local recycling facilities that align with our values to find the best environmental outcome for all items.

16.01.2022 It's labour-intensive work, but cutting the cords off e-waste is an essential part of our process to achieve the best environmental outcome for hard to recycle items . If an electronic item doesn't work anymore, we've developed unique processes to break it down for responsible recycling - including cutting cords, dismantling metal, and grading the circuit boards. It's just one of the many techniques we use to achieve the best environmental outcome for every item we process.

15.01.2022 Green Collect is a social enterprise, but what does that mean? For us, it means that our business has the intentional purpose to reduce waste to landfill, and to generate employment for people who have previously faced barriers to work. Specifically, we provide environmental outcomes for the hard to recycle office waste generated by businesses, councils, institutions and households. This includes stationery, folders, ewaste, electrical items, and other office items. Through ...innovation, dedication and creative solutions, we are able to save 95% of the items we collect from landfill. To do the hard work of processing items for their best environmental outcome, Green Collect provides employment and training for people who have previously experienced difficulty securing work due to homelessness, disability and refugee backgrounds. Green Collect is certified through Social Traders, is a founding member of @se_network_victoria , and participates in a wide range of networks toward zero waste outcomes. We're passionate about the work we do, and are look forward to the day when we achieve a world without waste. #socialtraders #socialenterprise #socialenterpriseaustralia #sustainability #zerowaste #senvic #smallbusiness #thegoodnessgap #notbusinessasusual #circulareconomy #fairwork #greencollect #green #reducereuserecycle #aworldwithoutwaste #sustainable #localbusiness

13.01.2022 Green Collect's Logistics Team has a new look . Our drivers, removals and collections staff are pretty pleased with their new matching face masks from East of Africa. They're not the first masks they've had, but they are the most attractive. For the past few months, all of our logistics staff have been wearing masks. Staying safe on the job is essential for these essential workers, as their work collecting excess items from office buildings and Council locations puts them i...n contact with people and public places. Staff members at our retail stores and any not working from home are also 'masking up' to stay safe. These new masks are washable, made of 3 layers of fabric, and look just fabulous. To order yours, phone our Yarraville store on 9314 4987. There's a short waiting list while our supplier keeps up with demand, but you should have yours in just a few days. They're now available with or without a storage pouch, and in adults and kids sizes.

These items are not easy to recycle, and Green Collect has worked hard to develop manual deconstruction and recycling techniques that bring about the best environmental outcome.

08.01.2022 As the Black Lives Matter movement gathers pace across the US and in Australia, Green Collect stands with our First Nations people, and all people of colour, in calling for an end to systemic racism, heavy-handed policing and a discriminatory criminal justice system. Green Collect hears and responds to their call to solidarity. We recognise that it does happen here. We commit ourselves to do the work necessary to build a social enterprise that actively addresses racism in our... society. As Aunty Geraldine Atkinson and Marcus Steward declared, in their address through Premier Dan Andrews: "The aim of us all is to expose, and to have understood, the structural racism that underpins these events. To see that these minor incidents escalate into death sentences because racism causes those of us with the power of life and death, to miscalculate, and to overreact. It makes us hood and shackle a child in Don Dale, or to trip, and slam the head of a sixteen-year-old into the concrete in Redfern." (Aunty Geraldine Atkinson, a proud Bangerang/Wiradjuri woman, and Marcus Stewart, a Taungurung Traditional Owner, co-chairs of the First People's Assembly of Victoria.) #blaklivesmatter #blacklivesmatter #blk #socialenterprise #stopaboriginaldeathsincustody #changetherecord #closethegap
