23.01.2022 Among everything you’ve heard about COVID-19, did you know a subtle shift recently occurred in Victoria’s occupational health and safety COVID-19 landscape? Last Tuesday, a new OHS regulation commenced that imposes a new notification obligation on Victorian employers, if they become aware of a positive COVID-19 case within their business. In our case, the new regulation means that GreenCon - as an employer must now notify WorkSafe Victoria as soon as we are informed if anyo...ne who has visited a GreenCon worksite tests positive for COVID-19. That means, naturally enough, we need to know if anyone on our sites tests positive for COVID-19. And it also means we must know who’s on our sites: when they entered, and when they departed. The process we use to account for on-site personnel leans heavily on holding a pre-start discussion, then ensuring sign-on details are accurately captured in our pre-start form. While this won't be anything new to regular visitors to GreenCon sites, given the ever increasing focus on things related to COVID-19 and the introduction of the new OHS regulation, we wanted to highlight this to you and remind about our on-site signing-in processes.

21.01.2022 Welcome to the new year. Greencon has a busy year ahead of them with a Compost Barn and Robotic dairy in construction mode as we speak. A project we worked on with Leahy's Electrical just before Xmas was the Deakin Lights (see below photo of lights).

18.01.2022 Also working on a Compost Barn up near Kerang. Earthworks have just been completed.

15.01.2022 Safe Work Method Statements: SWMS (pronounced, swims). Love ‘em or loathe them, SWMS are a staple of Australia’s construction industry. WorkSafe Victoria’s document titled ‘Safe work method statements’ describes a SWMS as a planning tool that identifies the hazards and risks of high-risk construction work, and documents the control measures necessary to manage those risks.... (Which brings to the table some other questions what exactly is defined as construction work? And when does that work become high risk? Both are things we will flesh out, another time). At GreenCon pretty much all of our activity is captured, somewhere, within the pages of a SWMS. So, to help ensure that a SWMS is up-to-scratch we developed a quick-fire ‘SWMS Review’ Q&A form. We foraged through WorkSafe’s info-sheet and their SWMS template in particular to help us construct a series of simple ‘Yes’/’No’ questions related to SWMS, and work our way through that suite of questions to focus our attention on areas where our SWMS may need improving. Simple! https://www.worksafe.vic.gov.au//safe-work-method-statemen

14.01.2022 GreenCon is a construction and concreting company at its core, but we sometimes find the small things help generate the biggest smiles on clients faces. Earlier this year we were asked to come up with a quick, cost-effective solution to a problem a customer faced that related to a temporary accommodation unit they had located onto their farm. After spending a day out working on the land, they wanted a space where workers could kick off their boots and take off dirty overalls,... without traipsing dirt into their donga. Solution? Over a couple of days one of our younger carpenters whipped up this deck. It proved an instant hit not only did it help keep dirt outside, the deck provided a space where each tenant could relax and unwind at the end of their day. Really simple, and really effective.

11.01.2022 Backing up our last post about COVID-19, it is incredible the pace with which things are evolving WRT the disease. Across Australia it is amazing to see how everyone has been responding, and at GreenCon we are doing all we can to remain nimble and respond to the challenges the situation presents. As part of that, we've updated our internal COVID-19 self-assessment (check out the image) to reflect the latest suite of questions from the Victorian Dep't of Health and Human Servi...ces (www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus-self-assessment) The assessment uses the latest medical advice related to COVID-19, and helps you understand the risks and precautions you need to take based on your personal circumstances. As we said in our last post, the self-assessment is very easy to use, and we strongly recommend that you run yourself through its set of questions.

10.01.2022 COVID-19: a HUGE topic. It doesn’t matter who you ask, or where you look - people are talking about flattening curves, social-distancing and washing their hands more than ever! It is no different at GreenCon. We are acutely aware of the disease and doing all we can to avoid it. But, we also know we are not experts in the subject. So, to help with that we keep a (very!) close eye on the COVID-19 medical messaging from Victoria’s Department of Health and Human Services, complem...ented by leaning on the Master Builders Association for their leadership on how we make sure our COVID-19 business practices remain ship-shape. Yesterday MBAV published the latest version of the COVID-19 Guidelines For The Building And Construction Industry. It covers a heap of ground, but among many things five key themes jumped out: 1. Screening for COVID-19 is critical. We have updated our Self-Assessment process, to make sure we are asking the right questions at the right time, and have promoted the Australian Government’s self-screening tool (www.health.gov.au//healthdirect-coronavirus-covid-19-sympt) across our workforce so they can conduct their own personal daily self-screen. 2. Social-distancing 3. Ensuring high levels of personal hygiene and 4. Cleaning and disinfecting early and often remain as critical as ever. 5. And workplace mapping has become a new catchphrase. In our case, it requires our employees to log where they are more than they would normally have done, which sees them providing more detail into their daily-diary entries so the Health Dep’t could back-track where they had been and who they had interacted with, if needed. All those things have become our new normal and we hope that, collectively, they are all doing their bit to help squash the curve!

09.01.2022 Stay tuned for an announcement on a "LetsTalk" breakfast to be held at Greencon.

06.01.2022 At GreenCon, we are doing all we can to help minimize the spread of COVID-19. Of the many tools that exist to help fight the disease, one we developed recently is a self-assessment questionnaire. It was based on a suite of questions from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services’ Coronavirus (COVID-19) self-assessment for people who live in, or are visiting, Victoria, Australia. (And yep, we recognise that that is quite a mouthful!) The self-assessment asks a s...mall number of simple questions, such as whether you have travelled overseas and arrived in Australia during the last 14 days. Or whether you have been in close contact with anyone who is a confirmed case of coronavirus. It is proving to be an excellent tool. It is helping us determine whether visitors can proceed into our premises, and has proven to be an excellent kick-starter of robust conversations about COVID-19 and, critically, what we can do to help deal with the disease. You can find the original self-assessment on DHHS’ website: www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus-self-assessment It uses the latest medical advice and helps you better understand the risks and precautions you need to take, based on your personal circumstances. It is very easy to use. We strongly recommend that you take the opportunity to run yourself through it.

05.01.2022 Been a while since i updated you on works. Sunday Ridge Rd Dairy moving nicely About to commence a Rotary in Eastern Creek Just won the tender to build some sheds at Landfills and currently running a large crew doing kerb and channel on the Princes Hwy Duplication.

03.01.2022 At GreenCon’s April 2020 toolbox meeting, one of the topics we touched on was mental health and wellbeing. While that subject matter is always critical, it’s perhaps found its way into the spotlight even more so at the moment, given everything that’s taking place about COVID-19 around our world. The Victorian Dep’t of Health and Human Services has some excellent information on the subject. We’ve borrowed some of their information from their social media channels, and hope you... can find something here which may help. If you are finding this time difficult, understand that strong feelings and anxiety are normal. Events and news around COVID-19 may trigger different emotional reactions. There are many strategies you can try to cope; rest, exercise, talk on the phone with friends, family and other community members, or seek professional help: - Lifeline 13 11 14 - Griefline 1300 845 74 - BeyondBlue 1300 224 636 The Department has a tonne of information to help you look after your mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic.
