23.01.2022 Keep yourselves and your pets cool on days like today! Remember some of our fur friends are naturally wearing big coats so for our extremely fluffy friends it is best to keep them inside a cool area. Heat stroke can happen very quickly and your pet requires vet attention immediately as it is considered an emergency! Call your nearest vet if you are on your way with a heat exhausted pet so they can make all the necessary equipment preparations. Our wildlife feel the extreme h...eat too so if you can spare a shallow dish of cold water and place it in a shaded area in your yard our native wildlife would be very appreciative! If you find any injured or sick wildlife please call the clinic on how to properly handle the animal if you are able to transport it down. Otherwise call wildlife victoria on 1300 094 737. To answer any questions about heat stress in pets call and speak to one of our trained nurses on 03 9718 1515 Stay safe and cool

11.01.2022 Boy it’s hot out there! Too hot for a walk especially for our four legged pooches! It is a common misconception that dogs (and cats) do not feel the heat through their paw pads and that they are completely burn proof. This is UNTRUE. If the ground is too hot for your hand then it is too hot for your dog. Keep your pets inside or in shady areas today as they will be highly vulnerable to heat stress, and make sure there is plenty of water for them. The wildlife would also appr...eciate a shallow dish of water if you can spare one as they feel this extreme heat too! Greencross hurstbridge hopes for everyone to stay cool and safe today and to have a very merry Christmas If you are concerned about your pet in this heat please call 03 9718 1515 and speak with one of our trained vet nurses.

06.01.2022 This lucky girl was bought into the clinic last Thursday in a very serious condition after being bitten by a snake! Zen the beautiful black Labrador is a service dog for the Hurstbridge primary school. Last Thursday at approximately 5:30pm she had collapsed and was having breathing difficulties so her family rushed her straight to our vet clinic where she required immediate medical attention. We ran a blood test and confirmed it was indeed a snake bite. She was quite touch a...nd go whilst we worked hard to get her breathing and administer much needed fluids and antivenom, but she was a fighter and got through the worst of it. Here she is today back to her happy self enjoying lots of treats and will be back to visiting all her favorite kids at school soon!. We would like to spread awareness of snakes in the Hurstbridge area and urge owners to be vigilant! If you see or suspect your dog or cat has been bitten by a snake please seek medical attention immediately. Details on symptoms and what to do in case of snake bites can be found on the greencross website link below, otherwise you can call us on 03 9718 1515 and speak to one of our trained nurses. https://www.greencrossvets.com.au//snake-bites-and-your-p/
