14.01.2022 Meet Thor and Athena! These beautiful whippet puppies are only 6 months old. It has been a very busy 6 months for the family. First their vaccinations, then Puppy Pre-School, followed by Thors run in with a bee. Finally on Monday they had their routine desexing procedures. Desexing your pet aids in preventing potential future health issues. It helps alleviate some unwanted behaviours such as urine marking, aggression and destructive behaviours. It also helps eliminate some health risks such as testicular and ovarian cancers as well as pyrometra (uterine infections) in females. If you have any questions regarding desexing your pet, or would like to schedule a date to have the procedure done, give us a call on 9580 6910. Thank you Thor and Athena for the cuddles on Monday. You were both very brave!
14.01.2022 Cooper came in recently for a dental procedure. This involved Cooper having a full general anesthetic so we could examine her mouth and perform a scale and polish of all his teeth. We also performed dental x-rays on her mouth to check if all the roots of his teeth were healthy. Just like us when we go to the dentist, dental x-rays tell us what is going on below the surface of the gums and allow us to pick up anything abnormal. Cooper recovered well from her procedure and was such a good brave girl! She was so brave in fact, she got a bravery award to go home with.
13.01.2022 Nash visited our clinic this week for the first time and needless to say all the staff fell in love with him. We hope your cough is improving Nash.
13.01.2022 Taco is one of our bravest good boys ever. He unfortunately suffered from a corneal ulcer when he was only 14 weeks old and needed surgery but that has successfully healed. Taco came in recently for his desexing where we performed BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome) surgery to help him breathe better. Unfortunately all short snout breeds, while bred for cuteness, have trouble with airflow due to soft palates that are too long and/or nostrils that are too small. At Mortdale, we offer surgery to shorter the soft palate and widen the nostrils. Check out the before and after photos of Taco. If you have a pup with short snout, please come in and talk to our vets about how we can help improve their quality of life.
09.01.2022 Miss Polly decided that her own toys were too boring so she decided to steal one of the kid's Nerf gun bullets. Unfortunately for her, the orange rubber part got stuck in her intestines and needed to be cut out. She's not the first patient we've had get into trouble from something they've eaten. Please be careful with kids toys around animals as they aren't safe if ingested and can cause problems if they get stuck. Miss Polly is much more comfortable now that she can eat and poo.

06.01.2022 Cheeky Mittens decided to get up to some sneaky mischief. He came in vomiting and not wanting to eat. On X-rays, we found a little surprise object that didn't belong in Mittens' tummy. Unfortunately, it was well and truly stuck so Mittens ended up having surgery to remove it. His parents think it might be a part from a chair at home, but are unsure how he ended up eating it. Mittens bounced back quickly after his procedure and is now at home recuperating.

01.01.2022 Pablo got himself into a tight jam recently by getting his cute little head stuck in a Peanut Butter jar. Within no time, our trusty Vets freed Pablo from his date with the Peanut butter jar. Peanut butter is a great treat but remember to feed in moderation.
