23.01.2022 Story for Luna - eye on the prize This not so lucky little girl Luna had been playing in the long grass when her owner notice she returned holding her eye closed and tearing. Her owner was quick to clean and flush the eye but she was still painful so she was taken to see Dr Mirriam. Dr Mirriam was able to find and remove a long grass seed from her eye but unfortunately the grass seed had already caused an injury! This highlights how delicate eyes are!

22.01.2022 Are you prepared for the heat wave this weekend? Now is the time to start thinking ahead - -Do you have enough shade in your back yard? -Do you have spare wa...ter bowls? -Can you bring your pets inside? -Are you going to be home? If not, how will you prepare you pets to survive the heat? Some handy things to do include: Freeze water bottles and icecream containers with water For rabbits and guinea pigs, frozen oranges and carrots make a great refreshing treat -Wet towels to lay on No exercising you dogs - not in the morning or late afternoon - the ground becomes very hot and their coping mechanisms are reduced in consecutive heat days If you are at all worried - give your veterinarian a call! 9639 7744

In honour of Mother’s Day tomorrow, some of the best new mums and vets tell us what it’s like to navigate the two. Dr. Jessica (Regional Clinical Director and Hugo's Mum) - ... "I think being a vet has helped prepare me for motherhood - late nights, no lunch breaks, being pooped on, and being constantly stressed about what they just put in their mouth! I’m so lucky to have been able to experience both." Dr. Ashlinn (Vet Director & Amelia's Mum) - "I love it! [motherhood] It’s better than I had imagined. Everyday there is a new surprise, a new development, an exciting milestone or a new challenge. Dr. Patricia (Emergency & Critical Care Specialist Animal Referral Hospital & Scarlett's Mum plus pregnant with twins.) "I would have to say being a vet is harder. [than being a mum] I may, however, feel differently when I have three teenage daughters!

04.01.2022 Summer is here and so are the Mozzies. Is your pet protected against heartworm? * It only takes one bite from an infected mosquito to infect your pet. * It takes six months after being bitten by a mosquito for the worm to reach the heart. * It is 15 times more expensive to treat heartworms than to prevent.... * There is only one approved treatment for heartworms in dogs. * There is no approved treatment for heartworms in cats. The mosquito is the world’s deadliest animals, killing 725,000 people yearly. There are over 3,000 species of mosquitoes worldwide. They can survive and thrive in a variety of climates and environments. We recommend heartworm prevention for twelve months out of the year here in Australia Why are heartworms increasing? Owners aren’t giving heartworm prevention all year around. Owners are missing doses. Weather trends are causing an increase in mosquitoes. Fewer owners are giving heartworm prevention. Heartworm prevention: There are many options for you to protect your pet from heartworms. The most common heartworm preventatives are given yearly as an injection , monthly either orally or topically. Many of these products also contain medication to treat and prevent flea and tick infestations. If your pet is not on prevention we will need to test prior to starting any preventative. Please call us if you have any questions 4633 1999
