17.01.2022 Like humans, guinea pigs cannot produce their own vitamin C. Instead of a glass of OJ, they'll need plenty of leafy greens and a good quality pelleted diet. #WarmingWednesdays

10.01.2022 Heartworm is a parasitic worm that can infect your pet through a mosquito bite. An infected mosquito injects a larval stage of the worm under your pet’s skin. These larvae mature in the pet’s organs for approximately six months, traveling through the body to the heart and blood vessels of the lungs. These adult worms breed to produce microfilaria (baby heartworm) in the bloodstream which are then drawn up by a mosquito when it feeds on the pet, continuing the cycle once agai...n. Mosquitoes are hard to keep out of both the yard and house, so even your indoor-only pets are at risk. How do I diagnose heartworm in my pet? Have your pet tested at the vet. A simple blood test can reveal whether your pet is infected. Unfortunately, diagnosis is more difficult in cats, so prevention in all cases is always the best option. Keeping your pet up to date with regular heartworm medication, paired with regular vet check-ups is the best way to ensure their health is optimised. For more information on the best preventative options for your pet please contact our friendly team on 07 3279 2311

06.01.2022 Being a mother is one of life’s greatest achievements, and we passionately believe that being a vet is the next greatest! In honour of Mother’s Day tomorrow, some of the best new mums and vets tell us what it’s like to navigate the two. Dr. Jessica (Regional Clinical Director and Hugo's Mum) - ... "I think being a vet has helped prepare me for motherhood - late nights, no lunch breaks, being pooped on, and being constantly stressed about what they just put in their mouth! I’m so lucky to have been able to experience both." Dr. Ashlinn (Vet Director & Amelia's Mum) - "I love it! [motherhood] It’s better than I had imagined. Everyday there is a new surprise, a new development, an exciting milestone or a new challenge. Dr. Patricia (Emergency & Critical Care Specialist Animal Referral Hospital & Scarlett's Mum plus pregnant with twins.) "I would have to say being a vet is harder. [than being a mum] I may, however, feel differently when I have three teenage daughters!

01.01.2022 This is little Moxie. Moxie was rescued with her siblings and lovingly rehomed. Her mama had to hand rear Moxie however, as she was the runt and wouldn't eat. Her foster mum couldn't bear to let her go, so here she is receiving her second vaccination with Dr Chantal the cat vet. Moxie loves to emulate a parrot, she will do most of the consult from Dr Chantal shoulder! She met the whole team yesterday, everyone wanted cuddles from this beauty. Thanks Moxie!
