23.01.2022 Each year, thousands of unwanted cats and dogs end up in shelters and pounds, simply because people are not getting their pets desexed, amongst other reasons. Desexing has numerous health benefits for your pet and drastically reduces the number of unplanned puppies and kittens ending up in animal shelters. A number of our Queensland Greencross clinics are participating in Operation Wanted - an annual desexing initiative run in conjunction with RSPCA QLD where pet parents rece...ive a 20% discount off their usual desexing fee. To be eligible, please head operationwanted.com.au to find your nearest participating Greencross Vet and register online.

21.01.2022 This is Zephyr: 6 year old Labradoodle, therapy dog and cancer patient. Until February 2020, Zephyr had a life of perfect health. When Zephyr was enjoying his cuddles one evening, two large masses were identified under his neck. Knowing he was bathed only a few days earlier, and nothing untoward was noted, the rate of growth was significant and concerning. Because Zephyr is lucky enough to live with Dr Jamie, he was examined immediately and enlarged nodes were also detected... in his hind legs. The following day, Zephyr had a lymph node removed from his leg and the node in his neck was aspirated. Under a microscope, suspicions where confirmed. Zephyr had Lymphoma. He began chemotherapy while we waited for further confirmation of diagnosis, prognosis and detailed treatment plans. We learnt that Zephyr had a B-cell lymphoma and, without treatment, a poor prognosis. Lymphoma is an aggressive cancer in dogs and, in consultation with cancer specialists, a decision was made for Zephyr to have both chemotherapy and radiation treatments. He had regular blood tests and chemotherapy with the team at Greencross Mudgeeraba and, during the Queensland COVID-19 lockdown, he traveled to Brisbane for radiation with Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Center (BVSC). There were weeks when he could not have his scheduled treatment because his white blood cell counts were too low and he was feeling poorly. Just like his fellow human warriors, his beautiful Labradoodle curls fell out and he had days of feeling tired and nauseous. His final treatment was in August 2020 and he is in remission! The lumps in his neck receded after the first dose of chemotherapy and we hope that the course of treatments that followed have removed all of the cancer cells from his body. He continues to be full of life and love despite these challenges. We thought it was high time we celebrate this little warrior and his bravery. Well done Zephyr and family!

20.01.2022 Being a mother is one of life’s greatest achievements, and we passionately believe that being a vet is the next greatest! In honour of Mother’s Day tomorrow, some of the best new mums and vets tell us what it’s like to navigate the two. Dr. Jessica (Regional Clinical Director and Hugo's Mum) - ... "I think being a vet has helped prepare me for motherhood - late nights, no lunch breaks, being pooped on, and being constantly stressed about what they just put in their mouth! I’m so lucky to have been able to experience both." Dr. Ashlinn (Vet Director & Amelia's Mum) - "I love it! [motherhood] It’s better than I had imagined. Everyday there is a new surprise, a new development, an exciting milestone or a new challenge. Dr. Patricia (Emergency & Critical Care Specialist Animal Referral Hospital & Scarlett's Mum plus pregnant with twins.) "I would have to say being a vet is harder. [than being a mum] I may, however, feel differently when I have three teenage daughters!
