25.01.2022 Being a mother is one of life’s greatest achievements, and we passionately believe that being a vet is the next greatest! In honour of Mother’s Day tomorrow, some of the best new mums and vets tell us what it’s like to navigate the two. Dr. Jessica (Regional Clinical Director and Hugo's Mum) - ... "I think being a vet has helped prepare me for motherhood - late nights, no lunch breaks, being pooped on, and being constantly stressed about what they just put in their mouth! I’m so lucky to have been able to experience both." Dr. Ashlinn (Vet Director & Amelia's Mum) - "I love it! [motherhood] It’s better than I had imagined. Everyday there is a new surprise, a new development, an exciting milestone or a new challenge. Dr. Patricia (Emergency & Critical Care Specialist Animal Referral Hospital & Scarlett's Mum plus pregnant with twins.) "I would have to say being a vet is harder. [than being a mum] I may, however, feel differently when I have three teenage daughters!

20.01.2022 Ringo is looking very comfortable & cozy after his desexing procedure! Such a brave little guy! Quite a lot is involved in keeping your pet as safe & comfortable as possible before, during & after their surgical procedures. * A vital check (temperature, heart rate, respiratory, mucous membrane colour) is done upon admission.... * A premedication is administered via injection, which contains pre-emptive pain relief & a sedative to keep them as stress free as possible. * Blood is taken & run if required, & an IV catheter is placed for drug administration & fluid therapy. * Your pet receives active warming whilst under anaesthetic via a Bair Hugger to keep them warm, as the body cannot regulate its temperature when anaesthetised. * The anaesthetic & recovery is closely monitored by one of our qualified nurses, along with a multi-parameter pulse oximeter. * One of our experienced veterinarians will perform your pets surgical procedure. * A pain relief/anti-inflammatory injection is given upon wake-up. * Your pet is then spruced up ready to be discharged by one of our vets or nurses & will have some take home medication.
