25.01.2022 And now it’s time to meet another one of our amazing rehearsal observers! They’re so wonderful we’ve just gotta show em off. Next up: meet Norah I had an amazing time in the rehearsal room watching the 7 methods team create Magic’s everyone was so kind and accommodating to me the whole time I was there. I got to witness Shari Sebbens, Moreblessing Maturure and Vivienne Awosoga in rehearsals and loved every second of it. The team worked so well together as they made the story come to life on stage. An added bonus was getting a chance to meet with the play’s producer Leila Enright who shared some insights into the Australian theatre world. I can’t wait for everyone to see the show! - Norah Masige

24.01.2022 Green Door's Weekly Affirmations This week: Gemma Bird Matheson

23.01.2022 INTRODUCING show #1 of Green Door's double feature at BATCH 2020 How do we begin to describe growing up as a first-gen Australian woman? First, there’s never knowing whether to call yourself Arabic. Or Polish. Or Australian. Then there are the smells. Not sweat or BO, but the smells of spices, musk and home which you think are normal until you reach high school and somebody passes you a deodorant can. Nowadays you realise you can’t even spell the names of your grandparents,... let alone remember them. Life is a bungle. Through interdisciplinary performance and cross-cultural dialogue, tutaj/ (here/there) dissects the intricacies of cultural connection and pickle jars. Egyptians and Poles have more in common than we thought in this earnest, funny, and sometimes heartbreaking quest to relinquish shame at feeling neither here nor there. tutaj/ (here/there) By Bernadette Fam and Monika Pieprzyk Presented by Green Door Theatre Company as part of BATCH Festival. Tickets here: https://griffintheatre.com.au/whats-/tutaj--here-there/ Originally developed with the support of the Q Theatre Laba Penrith Performing and Visual Arts program. Supported by PYT Fairfield. Supported by Critical Stages. : Jasmin Simmons #batchfestival #griffinbatch

22.01.2022 Three out of four and we cannot keep UP with the amazinginsanegenuisfabulosity of our rehearsal observers! Next up - introducing Chemon Theys! "When Green Door promised the opportunity to learn from an impressive team of creatives, they did not disappoint. I was fortunate enough to enter the rehearsal space towards tech week, where I could meet with other like minded young creatives BIPOC, and watch in absolute awe as the 7 methods cast and crew worked vigorously and effi...ciently before the first preview. Watching the cast of 2 extremely talented and capable actresses work through a demanding script under 2 brilliant directors left me in a state of complete admiration. Anytime I had a question around building the world of 7 Methods for the Sydney stage, I was met with an answer from the lovely hardworking team. It was also a blessing to have 1 on 1 sessions with the Producer and Head of New Writing of DTC and Co-Creative Producer of Green Door Theatre Company Leila Enright, who made their passion and support for new groundbreaking work very evident and made me personally feel very welcome in their creative space. Being invited to the opening night of the show was equally as valuable. Seeing how much progress can be made from start to finish and seeing an audience respond so enthusiastically to this extraordinary show is a magical experience I wish every young theatre maker could have. I cannot thank Green Door enough for inviting me to observe this Masterpiece evolve." - Chemon Theys See more

19.01.2022 CW: Aboriginal deaths in custody, police brutality We know that we are not going to be able to say everything that is true or necessary in this post. We know that as a company and as individuals that we have just begun our anti-racist work and that there is much yet for us to learn and to do. We know this work is crucial. This was highlighted this week in Rio Tinto's damnable actions in the Juukan Gorge, the murder of George Floyd by police, and knowing that there have been ...400 Indigenous deaths in custody in our country since the 1991 Royal Commission, and that we don't have a national conversation around it. Today, we are using our company platform to encourage those with white privilege to engage. To sit with yourselves and consider both your sphere of influence (Reni Eddo Lodge's concept), and how the social constructs have influenced individual lives. We urge you to begin the research and the practical work required to be actively anti-racist in your day to day. Social media is flooded with anti-racist books to read, podcasts to listen to and tv shows to binge. Get on that task. We’ve put a small beginners list in this post too. Most of all, when Indigenous people, Black People or People of Colour speak, sit down and listen to know and understand, not to respond. Listen sincerely. Music has defined Zimbabwean born singer-songwriter Stephen Chikazaza for as long as he can remember. Stephen grew up singing in church, in school choirs and at public events. This early, profound immersion in music served as a natural springboard for songwriting and harmony when as... a teenager, Stephen became a member of a popular vocal quartet. His music is unique and reflects time spent in the United States where he joined the local gospel scene and was nurtured by artists and musicians alike. Following his move to Sydney, Stephen released his soulful debut album ‘Familiar People’ to acclaim in 2019. 10.01.2022 Our lovely mates at House Of Sand are doing a thing! Get to it. The Split at the Old 505 Theatre Jules and Tom are on an old fishing boat. They’ve borrowed it. It’s only pretty small. Jules and Tom have been together a long time. They’re close. They know a lot about each other. Something is about to end.... Very little will happen. Everything will change. Will the world Jules and Tom knew be recognisable when they return? The latest quiet masterpiece from Sarah Hamilton (‘They Saw a Thylacine’) ponders the meaning of change. A love story on the verge of a nervous breakdown, or a parable of impending doom. The Split is a play about love and loss. ‘The Split’ is a play about people and nature. as a viewer, you feel instinctively that you’ve been here before, that you know their voyage intimately, and you want to keep watching. A thread of uncertainty and existentialism runs through the piece: uncertainty in love, in the future, and, through references to climate catastrophe, in the survival of the planet. In this way, it hits a zeitgeist: as we witness the comforting embrace of love disappear, we’re reminded of everything else that is disappearing or melting too. - the ADELAIDE review

07.01.2022 Drum roll please... for our final and fabulous rehearsal observer.... Mantshologane! "To be given an opportunity to witness black power, and black excellence come together and bring to life such a powerful and necessary piece of text was such an honour. I feel blessed to have shared in the discoveries and ideas happening in the rehearsal room. From laughter, to heartening poignant moments to real truth, every minute was absorbed and felt. This is what theatre is made up of,... this is what it should feel like and look like. Unapologetic, rich and diverse representation, and a space where a story like this can breathe and exist. I don’t want to settle for theatre that’s anything less than the power 7 methods brought. Congratulations to the ridiculously talented cast, the creatives and crew behind the scenes (but barely behind because your work and input and experiences all shone on that stage) To now, and to this. My heart is warm, so warm." - Mantshologane Maile It's been such a joy having these four incredible humans in our room. Now world... don't sit on your hands. If you don't know them: DO. They are going to be achieving some pretty things in the future. @7methods
