25.01.2022 How To Track And Improve The Performance Of Your Gym Staff Using FitDesk One of the biggest investments in your gym is your trainers. They are critical to your success and member retention efforts.... Every retention study talks about the importance of member to staff connection, as well as the importance of community and culture. This all comes from the relationships your trainers build with your members. That’s why it’s critical that your trainers are spending the bulk of their time on activities that help move the needle. Your trainers should focus their time on the following activities (in the following order). 1. Appointments with members 2. Following up with members via email and phone 3. Interacting with members on the gym floor 4. Admin/cleaning Do your trainers spend the bulk of their time on these activities? Or is checking Facebook and gossiping with staff first on the list? Most large gyms will spend between 15,000 to 20,000 dollars each month of gym floor staff. That’s a big investment and it’s important that you get a return. To maximise your investment in your gym floor staff its important to set clear expectations and ideally track each staff members performance. Using our FitDesk software, our clients each month track the utilisation or occupancy of each gym floor trainer. Read more at https://www.greenedesk.com.au/how-to-track-and-improve-the/

22.01.2022 FitDesk Featured In Australian Leisure Management For New Online Gym Booking Feature In January FitDesk’s exciting new online gym booking functionality featured on the Australian Leisure Management website. You can check out the full article below.... FitDesk software has announced the release of its new online calendar feature within its gym booking functionality. The online calendar feature allows members to self serve and book their own gym appointments from their computer or smartphone. Released at the end of last year, the feature helps free up frontline staff as well as improve the member experience. The online calendar widget can be embedded into a page of a centre’s website or can be set up as a sharable link that can be included in follow up touchpoints with members. For example, the online calendar link can be shared with new members via a welcome email which will allow them to book a fitness assessment with a trainer. The combination of FitDesk automated member touchpoints with the online calendar feature poses to be a potent tool for member engagement and retention. The feature will also work with FitDesk’s popular SMS reminders and member journey reporting features. FitDesk is used widely by Australian fitness clubs and includes functionality for club bookings, fitness assessments, workout programs, and automated member communications. To learn more about Fitdesk can help your gym or leisure centre call 1300 181 665 or email [email protected] #gym #fitness #healthclub #leisure #featured #onlinebooking #onlinecalendar

21.01.2022 A Simple Tip To Improve Your Gym Member Retention My tip for today is to make your communications with members personalized. A lot of gyms make the mistake of being too kind of corporate and formal with their communications.... And they’ll be like, you know, Hi John, Welcome to so and so, our gym is about this and that. If you have too many of those, it’s very kind of a cookie-cutter, it’s clear that it’s bulk, you know, non-personalized email. One email we encouraged our clients to implement is a personalized follow-up with members. And we want to make it look like we can automate it, but we want to make it look like it’s a personal email worth writing out. And one of the best ways to do that is to frame it as a question. So it might be something like, Hi member name, how are you enjoying your workout so far? Or how are you progressing with your workouts so far? The key is framing it as a question because when we do that, we’re inviting a response. And a strange thing happens, members actually respond. They’ll say, You know, going well, so far no issues or, you know, I’m a bit unsure about this. Can I book in to see a trainer, and I’ve got some questions, things like that. So what this allows you to do is open up a dialogue between your members and your trainers. And that member to staff connection is critical in terms of your retention success. It also helps you eliminate any roadblocks before it becomes too much of an issue and the member loses motivation. So the ideal timeframe for this is around 14 days in. So that’s my tip for today. Make sure your communications, even if they’re automated, make sure that they’re personalized. That some of them feel like they’re a personalized communication that’s coming straight from the trainer. 21.01.2022 Are you missing this vital component in your gym member success plan? A strong member success plan is one of the key weapons in your member retention tool kit. Research shows that members who undertake onboarding appointments with a trainer typically stay much longer than members who do not undertake appointments.... One study into gym retention showed that within just six months, 87% of the onboarded members remained active compared to only 60% of the non-onboarded members. However, not all appointments with your gym members are equal. It’s more about what you do in those appointments that make the biggest difference to member retention success. One of the key objectives of your appointments should be to build a connection and relationship with the member. Another objective is providing members with a clear plan to reach their goals. Our clients use FitDesk to create exercise programs that are specific to members needs and goals. Read more at https://www.greenedesk.com.au/are-you-missing-this-vital-c/

19.01.2022 FREE Member Attrition Calculator Improving member retention starts with knowing your numbers. We are a fan of measuring monthly attrition. This allows you to keep your finger on the pulse in terms of monthly changes.... Measuring annual retention rate is great however it only gives you an overall scorecard for your performance over a year. Measuring monthly attrition allows you to monitor changes from month to month and compare seasonal changes from year to year. Typically, there is a 3-month lag from action/implemented changes and the retention result. So, when you implement strategies for supporting members it is important to carefully measure the changes and what was implemented 90 days earlier. We recommend targeting monthly attrition of less than 3%. You may find yours is between 4 and 5% which is typical for an average gym. When we work with our clients one of the first things, we get them to do is to implement a process to track their monthly attrition. Simply by measuring attrition we find that retention improves almost automatically because there is a greater focus on it. We have created a FREE member attrition calculator that you can use to start measuring attrition in your gym. You can download the attrition calculator in excel format HERE - https://www.greenedesk.com.au/free-member-attrition-calcul/

18.01.2022 A Strategy Every Gym Should Be Doing! My tip for today is to use SMS appointment reminders for all your appointments in the gym. Watach Video: https://vimeo.com/397936983... So, a reminder just helps them make sure that they show up and helps you get the most out of your appointment resources. The reason for this is that it just helps ensure you got members showing up to your appointments. There’s nothing worse than having a member booking and then not showing up. People are busy these days, life gets in the way and they can completely forget about their appointments. You’ll find that most appointment-based providers these days like hair dresses and things like that, they all do SMS reminders. It’s inexpensive and can really boost your show rates as much as 30%. So that’s our tip for today. Implement your SMS appointment reminders. That will help ensure members get off to a good start by showing up to their appointments. 14.01.2022 The 8-word Email That Can Enhance Your Member Retention Efforts One of the biggest drivers of gym member retention is a member to trainer connection. Interacting with your members in any way is a positive, however, you should always endeavour to make your touchpoints with members personal.... Some gyms make the mistake of making follow up with members very formal and impersonal. Here is a simple 8-word email we use with our clients that is super effective for engaging members. Hi John, How are your workouts going? Regards, This simple email is powerful for a number of reasons. 1. It’s short and easy to read - people are busy so tend to tune out to massive long formal emails 2. It’s personal - it’s clear this email is personal- it’s one to one, not one to many. 3. It starts a conversation - the fact that its a question prompts members to respond. A large number of members do actually respond to the email and this starts a conversation that helps deepen the connection between member and trainer. The last secret to this email is that it can be automated. Typically our clients will automate this 7-14 days after the member receives a workout program and training plan. This can be automated through our FitDesk software using our smart automation features. Despite it being an automated email, the simplicity and personal nature of the email make it feel like a one to one email that has been sent directly from the trainer. The secret here is to use a reply email so all replies come back to a centralised email account that can then be used for ongoing correspondence and conversation. If you follow the 3 principles above you will have greater success crafting touchpoints that leads to better with member engagement and retention. If you need the help or technology to improve your gyms member retention feel free to email us at [email protected] #gym #healthclub #fitness #email #retention #retentionstrategies #memberretention #engagement

14.01.2022 Survey Members. Essentially the better you know your members and understand their needs, the better you can serve them. 11.01.2022 How To Use Email To More Effectively Engage Gym Members One of the keys to improving member retention rates in your gym is undoubtedly the way you connect and communicate with your members. An email is a fantastic tool for connecting with members and should be incorporated in any strategy for communicating with your gym members.... The benefits of email is that’s it’s free, it can be sent in bulk and it can be automated using the right software. The bad thing about email is that open rates tend to be relatively low (20-50%) which makes it harder to get your message through. The secret to successfully using email to engage and connect with your members is in your messaging. If you get your messaging wrong the results you get from email are going to be limited. The biggest mistake gyms make when it comes to using email in their communication and retention strategies is that they phrase their emails as one to many rather than one to one. 01.01.2022 Is Your Gym Measuring This Important Metric? My tip for today is to measure occupancy in your gym. What is occupancy?... Occupancy is made up of the number of hours that your staffs are roster on for the gym floor. The number of completed hours in terms of appointments that were completed. The number of hours that were used up but people that were booked in, but they were no shows. And then the number of blocked hours. The blocked hours might be someone was doing a class or had a meeting with the manager. So, if we look up, look at those areas. We’ve got our staff hours, so you might say 400 hours for the month that have been roster, and if you had 200 hours completed In terms of completed appointments. Another 50 hours taken up in no shows, and then another 10 in blocked that would be 260 hours out of those 400 hours were used. Your occupancy would be whatever it is 60% or 70%. The reason that this is important is it’s a measure of your use of resources. Are you effectively using the resources you’ve got? One of the biggest investments you’re making in your gym is your gym floor staff. If you have got an occupancy of 20%, you’ve got all this unused capacity that is kind of being wasted and you’re investing in that and not getting a great return. The ideal occupancy is somewhere between 60% and 70%. We don’t want it too high because we still want to have some presence on the gym floor. We want to have someone on the gym floor to engage and assist members. But, we want to ensure that our occupancy isn’t too low because that means we’re not getting the most out of the staffing resources that we’re investing a lot into. That’s a tip to measure occupancy in your gym. And if you’d like help for that, that’s one of the standard reports in our FitDesk software. You can just click a button and get that report each and every month, which is super helpful. I hope that tip today is helpful. And yeah, we’ll catch you soon.
