21.01.2022 Our resident Monstera Borsigiana is doing some unusual things. It has been growing aerial roots in between nodes, as you can see on the second photo. We're sure this is probably very normal in the jungle, though we've never seen it happen with our houseplants before, which gets us a little excited. They can't be bad right? So we're taking advantage of this as a reasonably good sign that it is ready to be propagated. ... We decided to go with the air layering method of propagating. Air layering is a very safe and risk-free method of propagating most of your climber plants that produce aerial roots. We've wrapped moist sphagnum moss, and semi-sealed it with glad wrap where those aerial roots are coming from. (see photo no.3) Those aerial roots will soon develop into happy a root system; which is a vital ingredient for a robust and vigorous plant. Only when it is rooted, we separate it from the mother plant, knowing that the cutting will most likely take off and grow into a happy & healthy Monstera. It is still Monday somewhere in the world so happy Monstera Monday! #aerialroots #excitedaboutroots #happymonsteramonday #monsteramonday #monsteraborsigiana #propagation #airlayering

20.01.2022 We exist in a time plagued by separation from nature, riddled with suppressing the wildness within ourselves. Most of us do not need research to tell us we feel alive and that every cell in our body sings when we go out into the wild green expanse. But some do need this confirmation. The good news is that science is always affirming naturalists, and collectively, we are re-aligning to nature’s way. - @erinlovellverinder A loose excerpt from Plants for the People ’a modern gu...ide to plant medicine’ a captivating intro that made me reflect on how plants have affected and ways they continue to influence my day to day life. As some of you may know, I grew up in the Philippines with my Nanay who believed in the medicinal powers of the plants that grew around our village. Guava leaves were the disinfectants to our wounds, bathing in boiled concussions of leaves was our norm when we got sick. Naturally ’til this day, I still firmly believe in the healing abilities of all plants around us, and yes, this includes our houseplants. It was imprinted in me as a young girl to find the potential of each plant. We may not be healing wounds with our Monsteras, but they are indeed providing a green escape, a soothing balm to our busy modern life. I guess what I'm trying to say is that, in a way, caring for plants can heal us and ease our minds to a certain degree. We can create a green filled calming space in our homes to encourage us to slow down and to take some time out to connect with our plants, to connect back to nature. To nurture and be nurtured in return. I'm curious, what is your take on houseplants? Is it something nice and relaxing to look at in your home? Do plants fulfil your curiosity, creativity, simply obsessed or all of the above? 1: A reflection of our jungle store. 2: Young me playing along the river 3: ’Plants for the People’ now available on our online store

10.01.2022 I love being your local #plantnanay This weekend, we celebrated surviving our first year in business throughout a pandemic and more importantly, we celebrated our community (our Barrio) who have helped, encouraged and inspired us to keep moving forward. We were greeted by familiar faces who bought plants from us during our days selling on the @facebookmarketplace , out of our apartment on Empire St. in Footscray.... We caught up with friendly faces that we met through setting up market stalls all around Melbourne town and those who we met through our jungle store. We thank each one of you who have supported us and cheered us on. You may never know how much this means to us, though we will continue to express our gratitude in any way we can. Agyaman ak Salamat Thank you This year did indeed take a surprising turn. However, we learnt a LOT along the way, made BEAUTIFUL friends that feel like home and connected with so many strong, talented and inspiring brothers and sisters. It is by far the greatest gift that this journey has brought to us : @ilhamchew_

08.01.2022 In partnership with Melton City Council, I will be hosting my very first workshop tomorrow on ‘How to care for and propagate your houseplants’ I am nervous and excited at the same time - I have never held a workshop of any kind. Though I have had an extensive amount of time passionately sharing tips and tricks and lessons learnt with my customers on caring for our indoor plants, which will be practically what I’ll be doing. So if you did manage to get a spot for tomorrow’s wo...rkshop be prepared for potential stuttering haha I don’t freeze and lose my train of thoughts altogether On a more serious note, I am excited to learn a new skill, learn from the experience and to challenge my self in new ways.

02.01.2022 We take so much pride in stocking these handmade wooden plant stands for many reasons. 1. We respect Ian’s detailed craftsmanship and resourcefulness, using only reclaimed wood. 2. They’re beautiful, especially paired with a ceramic pot and a stunning plant.... 3. We love that we are continually learning by how we do business with Ian. Respecting at the stage of life he is at; he only makes them as he feels inspired; we never ask him to produce a number of stands. We only take what he offers; we do not demand. This is the kind of relationship we thrive in and try to foster with all our collaborators. We believe it’s the way forward in doing business as intentions and emotions are felt through the hands of the creator. The space given enables the creativity to flow through and enhances the personal connection with the end product. I believe that we have grown because of the strong connections we have with all our partners, who we all believe in and admire their work, and we form genuine relationships with our customers who also later become our friends. I know there's a few of you who is like me, new in business or taking a step forward with your hobby or interest. I see you. To you, I say go for it, do your best. Love what you do, this will translate through your work. Do business your way, form genuine connections and always be grateful and value every person who helps you along the way. It's ok to make mistakes; everyone makes mistakes- learn from them. Do business for good, do it the way you have envisioned, there is no right or wrong way. You'll learn as you go, they'll be many people to help and encourage you as you journey on, they'll also be people who will put you down, but believe in yourself and in what you do. This is key. I'm sure you will face and overcome many hurdles you never thought you would. You are as important as your idea & your work, take care of yourself.
