25.01.2022 Today is Earth Day! This date is marked each year to acknowledge the importance of caring for our planet. The theme for Earth Day 2021 is ‘Restore Our Earth’ which encourages us all to come together to protect the Earth from the challenges faced through climate change and environmental destruction. This resonates deeply with us at Greenfleet as we work to protect our climate by restoring our forests through native reforestation.... This forest is called Whitehurst, located in South Gippsland, Victoria. It’s a perfect example of how our work is restoring land and creating biodiverse, resilient forests. How are you celebrating #EarthDay today? #GrowingHope #EarthDay2021

24.01.2022 Look at all those shades of green! This forest, located in Victoria's South Gippsland, is called 'Whitehurst'. We planted nearly 21,000 native trees here in 2012 that are now growing into a biodiverse forest that is providing habitat and restoring native ecosystems. The forest is also taking critical climate action by capturing carbon from the atmosphere. Over its lifetime, it will capture enough carbon to offset the equivalent of what more than 300 average cars emit each y...ear. #GrowingHope #ClimateAction

23.01.2022 Despite its name, some subspecies of Yellow Gum (Eucalyptus leucoxylon) can have pink flowers! While we love looking at our growing forests, zooming in and seeing the detail in nature can give an entirely different perspective. It makes us appreciate even more the work we are able to do with your support. #GrowingHope

23.01.2022 Today is World Electric Vehicle Day! Did you know you can offset your electric or hybrid vehicle with Greenfleet? With the elimination or reduction in the need for fuel, EVs and hybrid vehicles can significantly reduce transport related greenhouse gas emissions. But there are still emissions relating to charging your vehicle and for hybrid vehicles, tailpipe emissions.... You can offset these emissions with Greenfleet and we will plant enough native trees to capture them. www.greenfleet.com.au/offset

22.01.2022 In honour of NAIDOC Week, we wanted to reflect on a project we completed in Kowanyama Shire. A remote community located on the Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, Kowanyama means a place of many waters in the Yir Yoront language. The community includes the Kokoberra, Yir Yoront (or Kokomenjen) and Kunjen clans, who each have language and other cultural differences. Greenfleet had the privilege of working with the community in 2018 when we partnered with Kowan...yama Aboriginal Shire Council to plant more than 1,000 native and fruit trees. We were joined by Kowanyama State School students, members of the RISE Ventures’ Youth Program, council members complete the planting, which spanned 2.5kms. The trees will become a fresh source of fruit for the community that has limited access to fresh-food deliveries. When the trees mature, they will fruit with bush lemons, mulberries and mangoes. The first photo, taken in 2018, shows the native and fruit-bearing trees just after planting. The second photo was taken in May 2020 and shows how much they have grown in just two years and we’re excited to continue watching the progress of this project over the coming years. https://www.greenfleet.com.au//naidoc-2020-always-was-alwa #NAIDOC2020 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

21.01.2022 Koalas are listed as vulnerable in Queensland, NSW and the ACT. Last summer's bushfire season was also detrimental for these animals when thousands perished and even more lost their habitat. We are working on projects in Victoria, Queensland and NSW that will restore habitat for these iconic creatures. The forests are protected for up to 100 years so these animals can call the trees home for decades to come. This koala was spotted at our forest in South Gippsland, Victoria wh...ere we have been excited to see wildlife like this calling the trees home. #Koalas #ClimateAction #GrowingHope

20.01.2022 Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort and their guests have taken #ClimateAction with Greenfleet by offsetting their carbon emissions since 2017. Lady Elliot Island, pictured here, is located in the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef. It’s situated in a coral cay that is home to more than 1,200 species of marine life. With a strong focus on sustainability, The Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort is eco certified and it’s certainly where we’d rather be!... www.ladyelliot.com.au

19.01.2022 #NAIDOCWeek is about celebrating the culture, history, and achievements of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Islander peoples. It is an opportunity to listen to, and learn from, Indigenous Australians within our communities. Greenfleet is proud to be working with the Aboriginal Carbon Foundation and in the lead up to NAIDOC Week we were fortunate enough to chat to Shilo Villaflor, their Regional Manager. Shilo is a proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman with histor...ical and traditional ties to Darwin, the Torres Strait and Cape York Peninsula. Shilo sees NAIDOC as a week underpinned by joy; a time to reflect on the strength, resilience, and beauty of the world’s oldest living culture. Having worked in Native Title for over 20 years, the theme of ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’, resonates deeply with Shilo and her family. She spoke to us about the importance of Native Title in empowering First Nations peoples and giving back cultural identity. We thank Shilo for sharing her time and teaching us about the importance of NAIDOC. NAIDOC week is a week to celebrate who we are, where we have come from and where we are going and reminding us all of the fight, and that none of us are alone in that fight. #NAIDOC2020 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe National NAIDOC

18.01.2022 North of Wedderburn in Central Victoria, this 340-hectare property is being revegetated. Named 'Pearson', it is part of the Wychitella biolink and this project aims to restore native ecosystems and increase overall biodiversity and resilience. Working with the Dja Dja Wurrung people, traditional owners of the land, we are also hoping to create bio-links for native wildlife including the threatened Mallee Fowl. In 2020, we planted out 114 hectares of the property with 13,000 n...ative seedlings and 60kg of native seeds and will return in 2021 to continue the conservation effort by planting even more native trees. www.greenfleet.com.au//Planting-native-seed-grasses-in-Cen #GrowingHope

18.01.2022 Happy Wild Koala Day! In honour of this day, Queensland Trust for Nature have shared Billi’s story. Watch the video of Billi's release and hear about the wonderful partnerships that have enabled her story to have a happy ending. #WildKoalaDay #Biodiversity

17.01.2022 Located about an hour out of the Melbourne CBD, Greenfleet started planting at Police Paddocks in 2009. We planted more than 17,500 trees here that are growing into a biodiverse and resilient forest. Over its lifetime, this forest will capture more than 7,500 tonnes of CO2-e from the atmosphere. This is what 1,744 average cars emit on our roads every year! With the focus on increasing the reserve's biodiversity, some of the species we planted include Black Wattle (Acacia mea...rnsii), Hop Goodenia (Goodenia ovata) and Swamp Paperbark (Melaleuca ericifolia) as well as a number of eucalypt species. #GrowingHope #ClimateAction

17.01.2022 This Spreading Wattle (Acacia genistifolia) was snapped at our forest called Avoca in NSW but these shrubs can also be found in Tasmania and Victoria. Greenfleet planted here in 2013 with more than 40 different native tree species to create a biodiverse forest that will grow to capture carbon emissions and create habitat for native wildlife. #GrowingHope

16.01.2022 We’re excited to say that the carbon emissions from the production of ABC Australia's new show Big Weather (and how to survive it) have been offset with Greenfleet! We will plant enough native trees that will grow and capture these emissions over their lifetime. The show will investigate why weather is changing, what we can do to survive it and the conditions that lead to Australia’s worst bushfire season in history in the 2019-20 summer. Big Weather airs at 8.30pm on Tuesda...y 13 October on ABC + iview. #BigWeather #GrowingHope

14.01.2022 "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead We can all be the change we need to make a difference for our climate. #GrowingHope

13.01.2022 From little things big things grow and while our forests are protected for 100 years, they all started out as seeds or seedlings like these! These Eucalypt seedlings were planted at Plenty Gorge, Victoria last year as part of the revegetation project we're working on with Parks Victoria. On this particular day, we were joined by our supporters who helped us plant thousands of trees. In total, nearly 14,000 native trees were planted as a part of this project to help restore p...arts of the reserve, provide habitat and take climate action. Over its lifetime, the forest will capture enough carbon to offset a year's worth of emissions from 1,100 average cars! It will also grow to provide habitat to species such as Grey Goshawk, Speckled Warbler, Swift Parrott and Brown Treecreeper. #GrowingHope #ClimateAction

13.01.2022 In 2009, Greenfleet revegetated this property west of Mansfield in Victoria. More than 10 years later, this native forest is growing high into the sky! 8,000 trees were planted and many native species were chosen as a part of this project. These included Silver Wattle (Acacia dealbata), Drooping She-Oak (Allocasuarina verticillata) and Grey Box (Eucalyptus microcarpa). This project has transforming the property previously used for grazing. Over the lifetime of this forest, ne...arly 2,000 tonnes of CO2-e will be captured from the atmosphere. It is also providing habitat to wildlife species in the area such as Wedge-tailed Eagles, Rosellas, Swallows, Honeyeaters and marsupials. #GrowingHope #ClimateAction

13.01.2022 Still need a gift for Mum for Mother's Day this Sunday? You can give the gift of climate hope. By offsetting Mum's emissions or making a donation to Greenfleet you're helping restore native forests that are protected for 100 years. Your support helps build resilient ecosystems and provide critical habitat for our wildlife. You will also receive a certificate acknowledging your contribution that you can share with Mum.... www.greenfleet.com.au/donate #GrowingHope #MothersDay

13.01.2022 In celebration of GIS Day, we want to highlight the important work of our GIS Officer, Nikki Cronyn. GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems and Nikki uses the software to visit our forests virtually to gather important information on the land such as its topography, available hectares for planting and the carbon sequestration rate of a site all without leaving the office! When Nikki and our forestry team visit our sites in person, they go prepared with the GIS i...nformation gathered beforehand which helps to make their time on site most effective. GIS has a wide range of useful applications. Not only does it assist in analysis and monitoring of sites, Nikki also uses it to track fire locations in real time, plan drone flights and identify operational hazards. While Nikki provides invaluable information to our team through her use of GIS, when asked about her favourite part of working for Greenfleet, she said that she loved getting out in the field because there is nothing better than exchanging a day in the office for sweeping views of lush, green trees! #GISday #growinghope

12.01.2022 Forest name: Battery Creek Location: South Gippsland, Victoria Between 1999 and 2009 we planted more than 90,000 native trees at Battery Creek to establish a biodiverse forest. It has now become a haven for native birds and wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies and wombats. ... In 2013 an insect was also discovered living in the trees at Battery Creek. Officially named a Bog Gum Psyllid (Ctenarytaina bipartite) these tiny cicada like insects are found only in this forest and feed on the juvenile leaves of Bog Gum (Eucalyptus kitsoniana). Protected for up to 100 years, this incredible forest will continue growing and providing habitat for years to come. #GrowingHope

11.01.2022 Located in Wedderburn, Victoria, this project is creating a native vegetation corridor between neighbouring properties and building habitat for the native wildlife. Greenfleet direct seeded native species across 262 ha of this property named 'Ploughshare' in 2009. 10 years after planting, it is becoming a resilient and biodiverse forest. Species planted include Gold Dust Wattle (Acacia acinacea), Grey Mulga (Acacia brachybotrya) and Slaty She-Oak (Allocasuarina muelleriana).... #GrowingHope #ClimateAction

11.01.2022 Birds eye view! In 2009, Greenfleet planted native seeds across more than 260 hectares at this property in Central Victoria. More than 10 years later, it's turning into a biodiverse and resilient forest. Named 'Ploughshare' after a native wattle that is found on the property, this forest is creating a native vegetation corridor between neighbouring properties.... It is also taking critical climate action by sequestering carbon from the atmosphere. Over its lifetime, the forest will capture the same amount of carbon 16,200 average vehicles emit in Australia each year. #GrowingHope #ClimateAction

11.01.2022 Sir David Attenborough described the Giant Gippsland Earthworm as the rarest and most extraordinary of all earthworms. If you've ever encountered one, you probably agree! Found only in West and South Gippsland, these incredible worms can grow up to three metres long! Their locations are generally only known by the gurgling sounds you can hear as they move through their tunnels. Because they are classified as threatened in Victoria, Greenfleet is careful to make sure we don'...t harm the worms or disrupt their habitat. One of our projects on a property in Gippsland is home to the worms and we adjusted the planting so they can continuing living there for years to come. Today is National Threateneed Species Day and you can read more about these worms via the link below. https://www.greenfleet.com.au//Protecting-an-unusual-and-r

09.01.2022 Well hello there This Bearded Dragon was spotted recently by our forestry team on a visit to our site in Wedderburn, Victoria. This forest has been growing for more than 10 years now and it's exciting to see local wildlife calling it home. These lovely lizards can grow to 55cm and can live for up to 10 years. They get their name because of the the spikes under their chin, which can change depending on their mood!... While providing habitat to wildlife such as these lizards and kangaroos, this forest is also capturing carbon from the atmosphere. It will absorb nearly 70,000 tonnes of CO2-e over its lifetime. #GrowingHope #ClimateAction

09.01.2022 These rolling hills are home to one of the most interesting creatures you could encounter - The Giant Gippsland Earthworm. Growing up to 3 metres long, these invertebrates are more often heard than seen. They live beneath the soil and make gurgling noises as they move through their tunnels. Greenfleet is careful to plant in ways that maintains their habitat and protects these threatened creatures. At this particular property, nearly 30,000 native trees have been planted incre...asing biodiversity and playing a critical role in taking climate action. You can read (and hear!) more about the Giant Gippsland Earthworm here: www.greenfleet.com.au//protecting-unusual-and-rare-nationa

07.01.2022 Today is World Migratory Bird Day which raises awareness of migratory bird species around the world and the importance of conserving their habitat. Lake Connewarre, just outside of Geelong in Victoria is an important ecological area for many bird species including the Eastern Golden Plover (Pluvialis fulva), Common Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) and the Redneck Stint (Calidris ruficollis). The Redneck Stint migrates from the Northern Hemisphere to Lake Connewarre each year to ...breed. This highlights the importance of replicating the existing and native vegetation in the park, so that birds like this will still recognise it when they return. In 2019, we planted over 5,000 native trees here to capture carbon, rebuild ecosystems and help contribute to habitat that native birds and other wildlife can utilise for generations to come. Happy #WorldMigratoryBirdDay, everyone! #GrowingHope

07.01.2022 No Monday blues today, we're having a multicoloured start to the week! This Rainbow Bee-eater was snapped at one of our forests in Northern Victoria. They mainly feast on insects and when they eat wasps or bees, these clever birds rub them against bark to remove their stings. Rainbow Bee-eaters can be found in almost all Australian states and like to live in open forests or woodlands.... #GrowingHope

05.01.2022 Forests are a fundamental component of our planet’s recovery. A Life on Our Planet is Sir David Attenborough's self-proclaimed ‘witness statement’. In it, he speaks to the great environmental changes he has witnessed in his lifetime and the importance of taking action to protect our natural world. While many solutions were put forward in the documentary, Sir Attenborough speaks of forests as the best technology nature has for locking up carbon and highlights the importan...ce of their restoration. With our mission of protecting our climate by restoring our forests, we have to agree. Planting native forests is critical in taking climate action, increasing resilience and rebuilding biodiversity. You can watch A Life on Our Planet on Netflix now to learn about the solutions Sir David Attenborough presents in the face of the #ClimateEmergency. 05.01.2022 Welcome to Elanda Point Located in Queensland, 2 hours north of Brisbane, this area was revegetated with more than 100,000 native trees between 2003 and 2007. With the aim of taking climate action and restoring biodiversity, a variety of native tree species were planted as a part of this project. These included Queensland Brush box (Lophostemon confertus), Broad-leaved Paperbark (Melaleuca quinquinervia) and Turpentine Tree (Syncarpia glomulifera). ... As this forest grows it is capturing carbon from the atmosphere and providing habitat for the local wildlife. Many birds now call the forest home including the Noisy Friarbird and Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoo. Over its lifetime, this forest will capture more than 46,000 tonnes of CO2-e from the atmosphere. This is the equivalent of what 10,000 average cars emit in Australia each year! #GrowingHope #ClimateAction

04.01.2022 Today marks the start of NAIDOC Week for 2020 so today, and always, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land throughout Australia and pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging. In particular, we honour their deep connection to Country and pay respect to their knowledge and wisdom in caring for Country. NAIDOC Week is held each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is an opportuni...ty to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and there are many events listed on the NAIDOC Week website that you can attend. This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’. This recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. As an organisation focused on the restoration of land in Australia, Greenfleet recognises the benefit of working together with Indigenous Australians to restore our ecosystems. #NAIDOC2020 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

03.01.2022 We are not too late to make a positive impact and improve life for all living things. We need to leave a positive legacy for our children and future generations. Chris is a Greenfleet supporter and shared some of his drives for taking climate action with us. #GrowingHope

03.01.2022 River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) is the most widely spread eucalypt in Australia and is found in all mainland states. They generally grow around creeks, rivers and wetlands and play an important role in the ecosystems of these areas. They can grow up to about 35 metres tall, and flower with small white blossoms in the warmer months which attract bees and other insects. One of the most resilient species, these trees can live for up to 1,000 years. This tree is nearly ...20 years old and is growing in Greenfleet's forest near Donald in Victoria. Protected for up to 100 years, this forest will continue to grow for decades to come. #GrowingHope #ClimateAction

02.01.2022 Wattle, wattle, wattle! Nothing like some bright yellow wattle to liven up your Tuesday. This particular variety is called Golden Dust Wattle (Acacia acinacea) and is native to South Eastern Australia. This photo was taken at our site in Central Victoria where more than 20 different native species were planted to create a resilient and biodiverse forest. ... As it grows, this forest will provide wildlife habitat and capture nearly 50,000 tonnes of CO2-e from the atmosphere, playing a critical role in taking climate action. #GrowingHope

02.01.2022 Last summer’s bushfire season saw 12 million hectares burnt and 3 billion animals perished or became displaced. While many of us are still grieving from these devastating events, we can garner hope from the resilience of nature. We are focussed on building resilient, biodiverse ecosystems and recent assessments have shown that almost all of Greenfleet’s forests that were directly impacted have already started to regenerate. This photo was taken at one forest in the Great Lak...es region of New South Wales, Darawakh Wetland. Despite being severely impacted by the fires, most of the trees are now in an advanced state of recovery. While we know that bushfires and drought will continue, with their impacts exacerbated by climate change, we remain dedicated to long term climate action by restoring our forests and growing climate hope.
