09.01.2022 On its opening night, the Victoria amazonica waterlily dazzles in white, and beetles are drawn in by the flower’s sweet scent. The flower then shuts, trapping ...the beetles inside, where they transfer pollen and fertilisation take place. The flower reopens the following evening this time pretty in pinky-purple. The beetle leaves the floral bed and moves on to another flower. With the job done, the bloom then closes up once more and quietly sinks back underwater where it gets to work developing a seed. Check out the calming time lapse video of the waterlily doing its thing here https://bit.ly/AWLvideo
