The recent reform proposed, is set to comm...ence on 1 July 2021 if passed. These amendments aim to more proficiently adhere to the liberties of Australian’s freedom of speech and comply with the growing voice of online presences. The prevalence of case law challenges under the Defamation Act 2005 has increased over the past decade. These amendments are proactive in considering the liberties of Australians and the technological reliant society that exists today. The Defamation (Model Provisions) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2021, is in stage two of reviewing the correlation between social media and defamatory actions. Each state and territory Attorney-General were unanimous in acknowledging the need for a significant reform to the defamation legislation. 09.01.2022 What do the recent Fair Work Act amendments mean for employers? These amendments introduce a Casual Employment Information Statement (CEIS), which must be provided to existing and future casual employees as close to commencing work as possible. It discusses the new employer obligation to offer 'casual conversion', to transfer casual employees to permanency after 12 months of employment has elapsed. To be eligible, the casual employee must satisfy criteria outlined in the C...EIS, including a consistent working pattern for the previous 6 months. It is important to note, the Fair Work Act sets out the rights of casual workers to request permanent employment if CEIS requirements are met, and the offer has not been provided. Small business employers however, have separate obligations, which are listed in the article below. Our experienced team at Greenhalgh Pickard, will be happy to professionally advise you on any employment or business law queries that you may have. Call 07 5444 1022 to speak to our friendly team today. Read our employment news article here: https://preview.mailerlite.com/m2s7l4

05.01.2022 Struggling to recover debts? Talk to many financial advisers, and they’ll tell you a great way to increase your cash flow is to decrease your receivable days (the average days it takes to have your invoices paid). However, what happens when two, three, four months lapses and you still haven’t received your payment? What’s the best way to pursue the monies owed to you? At Greenhalgh Pickard we’ve seen an increase in the amount of bad debts and debt recovery inquiries.... As a result, we’ve introduced an affordable debt collection service, headed up by Litigation Lawyer, Shane Ulyatt, which offers: - A more effective ‘strike rate’ at collecting unpaid debts as lawyers have the ability to file court documents and take legal action; - Provides a discount on bulk debts, making it even more cost effective if you have multiple debtors also meaning no more large commissions; - Is a great option if your debtors are refusing to pay due to contractual, product or service disputes, and; - Can enforce payment and even charge interest to the debtor this is necessary if you have a serial debtor who has learnt that debt collectors cannot enforce them to pay unless they have previously agreed to it. If you have found yourself in the unfortunate position of needing to take action against an uncollected debt, contact Greenhalgh Pickard now to discuss a fast solution to your situation. Get in touch now! P: (07) 5444 1022 E: [email protected] www.gpla.com.au
