02.01.2022 The Black Turtles’ self-titled EP is now available on CD/digital at theblackturtles.bandcamp.com/releases It is the first release to feature the line-up of foun...der Walangari Karntawarra, long-time drummer Mert Balkanli and recent addition Sam Worrad. Lately the three-piece has played pubs, benefits and festivals alongside No Fixed Address, Archie Roach, Green Hand Band and many others. The Black Turtles recorded the EP at Lost Sound on Gadigal land, working with David Akerman (Dead Farmers). Notable influences/comparisons include classic Aboriginal desert rock, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Roky Erikson, James Brown and Led Zeppelin. The songs are about love, justice and time, and the sound is raw and urgent. The Black Turtles was founded two decades ago, and through the years the band has featured notable musicians including Troy J. Russell and Tim Gray. The band will launch the new CD at a Survival Day event alongside The Green Hand Band at LazyBones Lounge Restaurant & Bar on January 26. Tickets: lazyboneslounge.com.au/gigs/#events Songs from the EP will be in the set, and others including the recently recorded ‘Stand Up’ will be played live for the first time.
