24.01.2022 Great rave by Tristan from Sydney Gardeners to help you all build up the most important part of your garden - the soil https://sydneygardeners.com.au/how-to-improve-your-soil-qu/

23.01.2022 Michel and Jude have made an amazing contribution to Australian vegetable biodiversity https://theplanthunter.com.au/harv/peasants-pleasantville/

21.01.2022 These beautiful native butterflies cause only very minor leaf damage to citrus trees. Newly planted trees can have the caterpillars removed easily and relocated to a bigger tree.

20.01.2022 How is your silverbeet going? We are traditionalists and tend to start thinking about spinach pie with crispy, golden filo pastry and feta. This year the abundance includes Fordhook Giant, standing over a metre tall, the wide soft leaves of Southern European , the small leaves of Perpetual, and just for colour, Orange Fantasia and Magenta. #greenharvestgardening #greenharvestseeds

15.01.2022 Beautiful deep blue-purple flowers on sturdy spikes will bring the buzz of bees to your garden - Salvia Mystic Spires - shop now https://bit.ly/2PKz5Y9

14.01.2022 In 2003, concerns over the safety of irradiated food led the European Union Irradiation to rule out further irradiation approvals. The Australian Senate followed suit with a call for approvals to be halted until further research has been conducted. Claims that irradiated foods are safe are indefensible as no research on long term consumption of an irradiated diet have been conducted. Take action now, we have until the 24th of December to make our opposition known. https://www.foe.org.au/queensland_irradiation

14.01.2022 Our Elephant Foot Yams, which are a productive perennial tuber for the subtropics and tropics are now available. As the Yams are used in a similar way to potatoes, recipes are easy to come by. https://greenharvest.com.au/Plants/SweetPotatoToYam.html#Yam #greenharvestgardening #greenharvestseeds #tropicalvegetables

11.01.2022 Wonderful to learn more about our micro diversity.

11.01.2022 I find fungi mysterious, so much is hidden, in the soil or inside rotting logs on the forest floor. The future holds so many different pathways for uses we are yet to discover. https://www.scientificamerican.com//strange-but-true-larg/

10.01.2022 As our vegetable biodiversity continues to fall, seed saving is critical. If you are new to seed saving than an excellent book - The Seedsavers Handbook, is the best way to get started.

10.01.2022 Whether you call them #ladybirds, #ladybugs or #ladybeetles, if you have a healthy biodiverse garden these gorgeous insects are likely regular visitors. Each... species has preferred food. Some are natural pest controllers of aphids, scale insects, mealybugs and mites while other species dine out on fungi like powdery mildew. In Australia we have 500+ species and a female ladybird can lay up to 2,000 eggs in its life. Their brightly coloured tough outer shell warns potential predators like birds, spiders, wasps and dragonflies they taste terrible! To protect themselves, some species play dead and release a foul-smelling oil from the joints in their legs when attacked. Small but feisty! As they get older, the colour of their spots fades. So next time you see one in your garden, take note of the species. It’s likely you have a garden helper making life easier for you. See more

08.01.2022 To really enjoy a Sugarsnap Pea like 'Cascadia' you need to wait until the pods are nicely rounded, full of tender peas with a juicy sweet pod.#greenharvestgardening #greenharvestseeds

05.01.2022 I obviously haven’t been putting enough effort into my pickles!

02.01.2022 Do you share my frustration with kettles that last only weeks after they run out of warranty.? With washing machines that once lasted 15 or 20 years and now are lucky to make it to 5? The cost to the planet in wasted resources is enormous. Fill in a comment on this government website and maybe something will start to be done about it. https://www.pc.gov.au/inquiries/current/repair/issues

01.01.2022 I'm never pleased to see this creature appear in the garden but it arrives like clockwork at this time of year. Brown Bean Bug has a nasty habit of laying eggs inside the beans in a pod. If you want to save seed it is a good idea to freeze the seed after drying for 2 weeks, to kill the eggs.

01.01.2022 Correctly identifying the creatures that share our gardens is both interesting and useful, this is QLD DPI guide to all things caterpillar. https://thebeatsheet.com.au//GoodBadBug-FINALscreen22Feb3.
