25.01.2022 We are wishing everyone a very Happy Fathers Day and hope your day is filled with lots of special memories to cherish!

25.01.2022 This week is Science week, and our little scientists have been very busy exploring different experiments. Our Nursery children were having lots of messy fun with exploring textures and consistencies by mixing cornflour and water. Our Tiny Tots explored some oil in their outdoor experiments. Our Kinders and Toddlers shared making a volcano and had opportunities to explore the materials, both physically ans sensory. Kinders also did a cloud in a jar experiment and assisted with the mixing of the colors and got creative by drawing a picture if what they thought the outcome was from the experience. How creative!!!

24.01.2022 We are loving this weather and so are the children, our toddlers love their time outside, digging in the sandpit, going down the slide or baking some yummy muddy pies. Playing and learning outside allows a child to practice some of their physical abilities. Not only does it help them exercise and strengthen muscles, but it also assists with their gross motor skill, hand-eye coordination and overall health and wellbeing.

24.01.2022 Our centre will be closed tomorrow for Easter Monday

23.01.2022 Lets Match The Numbers! Recognition of numbers supports the development of our numeracy skills, one being counting. Amongst many, our Tiny Tots children have particularly enjoyed our Apple Matching Trees activity, which encourages them to apply a wide range of strategies such as focus and concentration, persistence and experimenting and most of all, problem-solving which taps into their world of cognitive development. Educators sit with the children to supervise and support them by encouraging them to look at the numbers on the apples they have and to match the numbers on the trees. This experience has created opportunities for children to positively engage with one another through interactions and conversations and builds a foundation for trusting friendships in the room.

22.01.2022 Today we are celebrating our amazing educators!!! We appreciate all their hardwork, support and dedication ensuring that our children have the best experience and learning opportunities while in their care. Their love, care and support for our little ones goes beyond that anyone can imagine. Im very lucky to have a team of such a wonderful educators.... Happy Educators Day 2020

22.01.2022 Natural Play Week This week our Pre-Kinders celebrated Natural Play week by going in a excursions. This gave our children the opportunity to play in the natural environment, they collected leaves, sticks, climbed trees and looked at the ducks and swans. #naturalplay #cairnlea #greenleaves

21.01.2022 In celebration of Remembrance Day, the children throughout the centre engaged in different activities to develop a better understanding of the importance of the day. Children read books as a group, sang songs and the older groups had discussions about the meaning behind the day and did crafts making their own red poppies. What a lovely way to incorporate our culture and history in our learning!

21.01.2022 We invited children to do some painting as it supports their social skills, language development and most importantly COLOURS! Painting enables children to work collaboratively with their peers and Educators by expressing in their words and displaying their learning on paper. Children learn to connect what they have learnt previously and to manipulate it on their own. For example, hand painting they have observed Educators support them in painting their hands with the paintbr...ush, they have now learnt to grasp onto the brush and paint their hands to make their handprint on paper. Painting enables children to express their interests, thoughts and ideas on paper and build their confidence in the learning space. We ensure to support children in their communication skills and fine motor skills by providing open-ended questions, connection with words and objects and feeling the textures of paint, brushes and painting utensils. Painting allows children to get out of their comfort zone and enjoy messy play but also learning through it. See more

21.01.2022 Last week our Kinder children received a special message and video from Mrs Roach from Cairnlea Park Primary School. Our kinders really enjoyed the story!!! Thank you Mrs Roach.

21.01.2022 Teaching our children about our earth and its eco-systems is important as it encourages them to engage in sustainable practices. Here at Green Leaves Cairnlea, our Worm Farm is one of the practices we have put in place to achieve that meaningful learning. Worm farms are an efficient way to reduce household waste and produce nutrient-rich fertiliser for the garden. In our worm farm, we include food scraps from our meals, such as fruit and vegetable peelings, coffee ground, and... cardboard to name a few. Our Sustainability Officer, Daphne has been showing children what the worms look like and what the benefits are to having a worm farm. She explains that it reduces food waste and creates a perfect organic fertilizer for our plants, and while we are waiting for some "Worm Tea" and worm castings to be produced, it is fun to show the wriggly worms to our children. Through this experience, we are fostering childrens sense of responsibility as they learn about reducing waste to feed the worms, and from there we can look after our environment from its rewards. There are endless learning opportunities to this experience and we are excited to learn some more!

20.01.2022 Recycling Week The children continued their learning and new understandings towards Recycling Week this week and they expressed interest to read books about the cause and we read the book called 'Recycling is fun!'. The children were so amazed that the children in the book made dinosaurs out of plastic bottles and use gumboots to plant flowers. Another book that the group of children read was 'Sustainable Farm'. This book was about the benefits of growing our own veggies and fruits in our garden which we practice here at our service. Afterwards, all the children participating in an activity that encouraged them to sort rubbish items into the correctly coloured bin. The children supported each and were proud of their achievements and new learnings.

19.01.2022 This week is Early Years Matters Week, and what better way to show in practice the importance of our sector in the development of physical and cognitive skills in children then an awesome project our Junior Kinders have been doing. The children have been interested in building rocket ships out of magnetic tiles and throughout the month of July, the children have increased their curiosity about our solar system and space! To support the children in their investigations, we be...gan to use the interactive whiteboard to research the solar system and the planets. So far, the children have an understanding about what is in our solar system which includes: the Sun, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Pluto and Neptune. The children have also extended on their knowledge with their educators by creating paper mache planets. By using glue, recycled newspaper and balloons the children are actively engaging in fine motor skills, social and emotional skills by sharing, taking turns and discussions, as well as using their imaginations to create their own masterpiece! 19.01.2022 In our Nursery room, the children had an opportunity to explore different types of sensory experiences. They naturally encourage scientific processes while they play, create, investigate and explore using their five senses. It supports the children’s language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem-solving skills, and social interaction.

18.01.2022 Our Kinders' had not one but two special visits last week, from two of our lovely parents. They had geologist Michael and the Kinder’s we’re thoroughly engaged as Michael discussed with us about his job and the very exciting adventures he has encountered over time. Children then had the opportunity to hold a mineral rock, they were extremely excited! Our other helper was nurse Rebecca who was explaining to the children about her job, children got to listen to each others' hearts with the stethoscopes, and see a very special pen that lights up to check children's pupils, at the hospital check-ups!!!

18.01.2022 This year for Children's Day we decided to treat the children to a week full of their favourite things. We did Disco Day, Dress-up Day, Favourite Color Day, Teddy Bear Picnic and the ever-so-popular Pijama Day. Everyone had loads of fun as it was awesome to see our little community come together and share some great time together.

18.01.2022 As we have started checking the childrens temperature upon arrival, we used the opportunity to teach the children a few new things along the way too. All our classrooms have been introduced to a great book that we are reading together showing examples of what the process might look like as well as explaining to our little friends why we are doing what we are. Its been a great tool to share the learning not only within our classrooms, but children sharing it with their families at home too!

17.01.2022 What a wonderful week of discoveries we have had! Our children loved the variety of experiences we explored in recognition of Science Week. Here are some more snapshots of children learning about mixing liquids/textures, exploring cause and effect, Our Solar System and more.

17.01.2022 Outdoor play spaces are places where children’s play can take off and flourish just as much it would in indoor ones. Our awesome outdoor play areas are large enough and designed in such a way that children’s play can come to full expression, where children can make a mess, run, jump and hide and explore the natural world

16.01.2022 Wishing everyone celebrating a wonderful Easter

16.01.2022 In celebrations of NAIDOC week this week, our eager little learners in our Tiny Tots room have doing lots of activities. One of them has been reading an Alphabet book that contained dream time animals and all the other sacred animals that live in our Australian outback and we watched some videos of the Australian Aboriginal Dances. Together we also listened to some beautiful sounds which came from the Didgeridoo and even did a little dance too...

16.01.2022 One of our regular activities in the Toddlers room is painting with colourful paints. The children get excited to pick from the wide range of colours we have and enjoy using their imagination and creativity to express themselves. Painting is a beneficial activity for the children that allows themselves to express non-verbally and communicate in a different way. It improves their fine motor skills whilst learning about colours and the different mixes that can be made by primary colours. They also enjoy displaying their hardwork and showing it to their friends and family at home. Painting strengthens memory and build prom solving skills.

15.01.2022 Last week we celebrated Dental Week and used the opportunity to organise some great intentional teaching moments for our children in regards to keeping good dental health. We did activities all week long, sang songs, read books and then some. Here is a snapshot of our Friday Tooth Fairy special time, where we read The tooth fairy book by Audrey Wood with all our groups, which the children enjoyed. We also had a wonderful donation by a family of lots of resources that we were able to share with the children in celebration of Dental Health Week. Thank you!

15.01.2022 So many happy faces today(and everyday) for our Easter celebrations. Happy Easter from our family to yours

15.01.2022 Dramatic play provides a number of social opportunities for the children to not only interact with one another but to share their thoughts and ideas to both educators and friends. It stimulates the childrens imagination and creativity as well as their fine motor skills! Here are out Toddlers exploring this activity using puppets and learning through play.

15.01.2022 Please see our September Calendar of Events!

14.01.2022 And the winner is... Thanks everyone for participating. Happy Fathers Day

12.01.2022 The children have been interested in exploring shapes. Educator has incorporated learning concepts into their play by using masking tape on the floor as a base for the children to follow, should they wish, to create their own shapes. In the discussion of their work, educators support and encourage the children to name the objects they were creating.

12.01.2022 In our Nursery room, the children are currently learning about emotions. The children are beginning to develop language skills to describe their emotions and being aware of how they feel. They are learning to become more aware of how to express their own emotions. This learning experience teaches children to learn to self regulate their feelings when interacting with others and become more independent. By reading books with children is one way to help them understand when the...y are feeling Sad, Happy, Angry, Lonely, etc. The children learn different sounds and facial expressions while they followed through the story with the educator. The educator shared the books with each child and the children had the opportunity to express their own emotions using their non-verbal language. Its important to continue to show ongoing support through positive conversations about feelings to help them deal with challenging situations as they faced in their learning. See more

12.01.2022 Exploration of Colours At Green Leaves Cairnlea our children have a wide variety of opportunities to learn about colours. Children usually learn about color during their early childhood years. The ability to identify colors is considered a marker and milestone in a childs cognitive process and is often part of early screening for development and educational admittance. Recognizing the colors and identifying the color names is an important part of a childs development. Early identification of colors helps to create the cognitive link between visual clues and words. Today in our Nursery Room it was all about the coloured blocks.

12.01.2022 The children in the Junior Kinder and Kindergarten room have been practicing their writing skills. They have been identifying the number or letter that has been written on the smart board by their educator and then attempting to write it underneath. This learning is supporting their fine motor skills, concentration, memory and information process.

12.01.2022 It's Christmas Time!!! Have a look at the amazing and joyful activities we have planned for December.

11.01.2022 Here at Green Leaves, we value our feedback, and since our lovely chef has been working on our Summer Menu we thought what an awesome thing it would be to ask all our children what they would like to see on the menu next. Their feedback was amazing and plentiful as they already love all the yummy things we serve. We got some great ideas from everyone and would love to incorporate all the children's at-home favourites here at the centre too. Stay tuned for our new Summer Menu

10.01.2022 Dont forget to come in your Pyjamas this Friday 17th of July and support this great cause. You can bring your donation on the date or donate directly through the link below.

10.01.2022 Last Friday our children and Edcuator celebrated "Diwali". Our educators were dressed in their Diwali traditional dresses along with some children. Last Friday our children and Educator celebrated "Diwali". Our educators were dressed in their Diwali traditional dresses along with some children. ere informed the purpose of Rangoli is to feel strength, generosity, and it is thought to bring good luck. Children were very excited to see the different colours and experiment with it making different patterns and designs.

10.01.2022 During these tough times, sometimes all we need is a hug from a friend. Us as educators we give priority to nurturing relationships and providing children with consistent emotional support which can assist children to develop the skills and understandings they need to interact positively with others.

09.01.2022 As summer quickly approaches and the weather gets hotter, the children are more and more eager to play around with water to cool themselves down. In our Nursery room, we ensure to provide the children with this opportunity through water play and sensory play. To expand on fun and messy activity we add things like sand in a tub of water and encouraged the children to feel the texture of the water. This further allows the children to experience both water and sensory play all in one. The children are also given toy boats with which they are able to use their imagination and picture a boat on the sea surrounded by water. These simple yet messy activities allow the children to explore and expand on their learning in a group setting which I adds to their ability to build a stronger sense of community and belonging.

09.01.2022 Any day is an R U OK Day! To celebrate the immense importance of the day, our educators and children were dressed up in yellow and raised awareness of this very special cause. 07.01.2022 National Pyjama Day was on July 17, and we jumped into our favourite PJs and helped raise vital funds for children in foster care. Together, we can support little kids with BIG dreams and had loads of fun along the way too!!!

06.01.2022 Educator Daphne has introduced Auslan sign language as part of our room goal, to connect words with actions and colors. Our learning sessions start with step by step actions of each color in the rainbow. The children mirror the actions of each color as they sing I Can Sing A Rainbow in Auslan. Auslan further develops the children cognitive development as well as self-esteem and confidence to communicate both verbally and non verbally.

06.01.2022 In the Toddlers room, children have been engaging in role-play construction of building houses, bridges and walls. Brick by brick, by using their imagination and creative skills, playing in the construction area is the perfect way for a child to learn how to problem-solve and is a great method to learn what works and what doesnt. Playing with a variety of buildings and creative products helps children build self-confidence and encourages their independent learning too.

05.01.2022 Have a look at our nutritious, healthy and delicious Summer Menu. Thank you all for your feedback and ideas.

05.01.2022 Our delicious new Spring menu has arrived! Yummy!

05.01.2022 Everybody loves Marion's coffee and treats!!! And look how many she has made so far. This morning Christopher was the lucky one to have coffee #5000.

05.01.2022 Our lovely educators have been developing different ways to deliver story time activities. One of the ways is by reading and singing their favorite nursery rhymes using the felt board story props. While the educator sings the nursery rhyme, the children place the story props and place them on the felt board. This experience allows the children to know who are the characters in the nursery rhymes. We also have photos of the children on the felt board cards, where the children ...can identify their peers and identify themselves, and learn to pronounce each others names. The educator displays the card with a childs photo and name, and the children have fun pointing out the child. This experience with the felt board story props is encouraging our children to participate in group time and learning new experiences. It also promotes children to build confidence to use their social and language skills in a group learning setting. See more

04.01.2022 We have to say we are super excited for upcoming Christmas, and our children have already been very, very busy creating lots of things in celebration of it. Here's what we've made so far in our upcoming Winter Wonderland.

04.01.2022 Science experiments allow children a creative outlet to explore new ideas. Its also easy to add in conversations, discussions with open-ended questions where children can learn new words and improve their communication skills. By observing the chemical reactions, children build-up their solving problem skills. On this occasion, we made Sand Volcano and we loved it!!!

03.01.2022 During the month of July, the educators in the Pre kinder room were helping the young children to become independent by allowing and encouraging them to take responsibility for themselves. Children were encouraged to dress with minimal assistance. The children were helping the educators with things like table setting, picking up toys, setting and packing up the beds after sleep time, putting cushions back after group time, scrapping off the leftovers after mealtime and cleaning the table after lunchtime. They are also helping their peers in need.

03.01.2022 Story TIme Story-time in our nursery room is one of the favourite activities throughout the day. Through these interactions, children are given the opportunity to further develop their literacy skills. Literacy development is learning about sounds, words and language. Literacy is the basis for your childs ability to read, write, communicate and socialise.

03.01.2022 Please see our November calendar of events full of fun activities for all our children

03.01.2022 The Kinder children are continuously learning and being sustainable in the room. The children have been contributing to the centre by helping pour in food scraps into the worm farm. Today the children made their own scarecrow for the vegetable garden in the centre. First we watched a video on how to make a scarecrow then brainstormed together on the resources we may need for the scarecrow. The children got all creative using numerous art materials to make their scarecrow.

02.01.2022 April is tomorrow-can you believe it!!! Our Calendar Of Events is now updated with fun new things to do during the month of April :)

02.01.2022 Painting with young children allows us to see much more than a simple picture. If we observe with careful eyes and ears, we can gain tremendous information about each child. We can share with families what we have discovered and why we feel it is important. We can create enjoyable experiences and support development at the same time. Here are our Toddlers venturing into painting with red and creating their own little masterpieces!
