24.01.2022 FAREWELL SUMMER Yesterday some of our children farewelled summer with a splish and a splash

24.01.2022 WOMBAT STEW During the month of January, Pre Kinder children have been enjoying reading some classic Australian children’s story books. In celebration of Australia Day 2021, we have decided to recreate, through pretend play, one of our favourite stories 'Wombat Stew' by Marcia K Vaughan and Pamela Lofts. ‘Wombat stew,... wombat stew, gooey, brewy, yummy, chewy wombat stew!' Making our Wombat Stew.... During our group reading time together, we have been talking about all of the animals in the story, their unique features and how they managed to work together to trick the dingo to save their friend, the wombat. Whilst we didn’t want to add real flies and bugs to our stew, which is added to the pot in the book, we created our own recipe and added pretend flies and bugs, feathers, mud, water, gumnuts and gum leaves. The animals in the book throw into the dingoes stew all sorts of disgusting ingredients, convincing the dingo that it will make the stew taste better! We collected lots of wonderful gumnuts, leaves, feathers and more for the stew, with the children all sharing their own ideas as to how good or bad the stew would taste. Children’s voices: Wombat Stew, Wombat Stew. Ew! - Xander yelled excitedly. It tastes yuck - Amaya yucky - Eddie yuck - Clementine

24.01.2022 HIP HIP HOORAY FOR WATER PLAY Water play is such a valuable experience that provides an array of learning opportunities for children. Water play supports the development of fine and gross motor skills across age ranges. Children will increase their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination through actions like pouring, squirting, scrubbing, stirring and squeezing.... Science and mathematic concepts such as float or sink and volume can be discussed and explored. Social skills and emotional well-being are promoted. Water play releases energy, it can be both invigorating or relaxing and calming for young children. It provides opportunities for children to engage in positive small group interactions while exercising dispositions for learning such as cooperation and curiosity. Most importantly water play is FUN, just ask Eddie

24.01.2022 Meet our wonderful Centre Director Casey! Casey has prepared an introductory letter below. "Hi Families,... I am extremely grateful to have been appointed as Centre Director at our brand new early learning haven in Launceston. I have 15 years' experience across a variety of leadership roles in education and care, however, to say that I'm excited to experience a new way with Green Leaves Early Learning, is an understatement! For me, relationships are key, and I am really looking forward to establishing a new team and building an inclusive, positive culture where each and every member feels valued and connected. As a Centre Director, I am passionate about leading, developing and supporting champions within the early childhood sector to deliver a high standard of meaningful education and care to children and families. I love nothing more than to watch people succeed. My pedagogy is centred around one of my favourite Maria Montessori quotes ‘What the hand does the mind remembers.’ I strongly believe in providing children with levels of responsibility and independence, affording them opportunities to construct their own reality, explore and make meaning. The Launceston community is going to benefit immensely from what Green Leaves Early Learning has to offer, and I look forward to building collaborative partnerships with children, families, and the wider community. I can't wait to meet you all soon! -Casey"

23.01.2022 Learning environments are welcoming spaces which enrich the lives of children when they are planned for the children based on their needs and interests. Outdoor learning spaces in natural environments offer a vast array of possibilities supporting children to engage in open-ended interactions and navigate through shared spaces. Our Tiny Totts children are forming relationships with one another, becoming aware of their own and each other's space during play.

22.01.2022 Easter Bonnet Parade The centre was full of activity this morning for the Easter Bonnet Parade. The children and educators from all the rooms gathered in the hallway to cheer on everyone as they took turns parading their bonnets.... We would like to wish all our children and families a safe and happy Easter.

21.01.2022 Fire Drill Evacuation Today we practiced evacuating the building in case of a fire. Children were supported by the educators to exit safely, they followed and listened to directions. Without a strong sense of wellbeing, it is difficult for children to develop a sense of belonging, to trust others and feel confident in being themselves and to participate in experiences that support their personal growth

15.01.2022 Nursery 1’s Baby Chicken Experience Today in nursery 1 we had a visit from a little baby chicken. Some children were looking and showing their interest, using a gentle finger to stroke down its back as it chirped away, while others were a bit hesitant to touch the chick. Children watched as it ate its food and drank lots of water. Educators talked about the baby and what it was they ate and how it would grow into a big chicken one day. Children are learning to interact in relation to others with care, empathy and respect.

11.01.2022 Physical Play in N2 The children's physical development in N2 is quickly growing. This is evident in their enthusiasm to be outdoors and engaging in physical play. Between the age of 0-2 years, children's gross and fine motor skills are developing at a rate that demands them to continuously use their bodies in all different ways. Children explore what their capabilities are by taking risks in their play to learn more.

I am really looking forward to this new opportunity here at Green Leaves Early Learning Education Centre Launceston. My role is the Centre Administrator, and I will be attending to the initial and ongoing needs of the families within our centre. With over 15 years in Customer Service and Administration Roles along with Recruitment and Wellbeing Officer, I am happy to say I pride myself on making any experience the best. My strengths are being able to communicate on all levels; meeting people from all backgrounds of life and making everyone feel invited and safe.
