22.01.2022 This might be different for you and that's ok. But the attachment and bonding with parents and caregivers very much impacts our adult attachments and relationships. This isn't about blaming parents and caregivers, after all they have their own experiences and possible traumas. However, if you have wounds to heal, you're not alone and it's really important to address this. Therapy really can help with this healing process Repost from @mombo.jombo . . . #attachmentstyles #attachment #attachmenttrauma #bonding #relationships #selfcare #selfcompassion #therapy #therapycanhelp
22.01.2022 Hi everyone, Vanessa here I'm seeing lots of social media posts at completely opposite sides of the spectrum. Some suggesting that it's ok if all we do during isolation is Netflix and eat junk food. The other encouraging us to learn an instrument, learn a new language or write a novel. I'm here to encourage BALANCE. Neither side of the spectrum is healthy all the time. Some mornings, you might watch your fav shows and eat cake (as I did this morning) whereas other mornings you might wake early, take a walk and get to work. My advice during this isolation is to focus on BALANCE and being compassionate with yourself while you're finding that balance . . . #mentalhealth #emotions #compassion #selfcompassion #balance #findingbalance #cakeisgood

21.01.2022 Grounding techniques use our senses to re-orient us to our environment and help us return to the present moment. They can be especially helpful during anxiety or panic or even moments where we simply need to refocus on the task at hand. Have you used grounding strategies before and were they helpful? . . . #mentalhealth #anxiety #anxietyrelief #depressionhelp #trauma #ptsd #cptsd #panicattack #presentmoment #grounding #groundingtechniques

19.01.2022 Do you ever notice a sense of urgency or anxiety leaving work? What about when you’re going to pick up kids from childcare? What about hanging up from a work call and walking into your home? Or when you leave from a visit with a family member (especially if this family member stirs up tricky emotions for you). These moments of transition in your day can contribute to anxiety and stress levels especially if it goes unacknowledged. We suggest that in these moments of transition..., you give yourself a moment to fully stop, breathe and reflect on these questions (even if this moment happens in your car or at your work desk before leaving). This moment of slowing down gives you a chance to come back to your body, back to the present moment, and reset for what’s coming next in your day. PS-If you have used staying busy as a coping mechanism, this slow down will feel challenging. See more

17.01.2022 This is a popular breathing exercise called the 4-7-8 and is used to help calm the body whenever needed. Deep breathing can activate your Parasympathetic Nervous System (your rest and digest system) and send the body messages that you are safe. A sidenote though, people with a history of trauma might find that deep breathing can feel triggering or very frustrating. If this is the case for you, try gentle movements to start with, such as gentle shoulder rolls, unclenching your jaw or going on a walk. Breathing exercises can then be slowly worked on with the guidance and support of a therapist.

15.01.2022 The panic around the Coronavirus is palpable. The shops are crowded, the shelves are cleared, the media headlines are non-stop. PLEASE do not forget to humanize each other during all of this. Remember the person in front of you might be looking after a family of 4, they may live alone and be scared, they may be purchasing medicine for an elderly parent. During the rush and uncertainity, do not forget we are all human. Hold the door for someone, offer help where you can, smile at one another. Breathe and stay calm. Panicking and being cruel to eachother isn't going to help. . . . #calm #breathe #grounding #kindness #bekind #uncertainity
15.01.2022 When we make perfection the goal, the outcome will always be failure. When we make progress the goal, we allow for setbacks, we bounce back from mistakes, we recognise the baby steps we’ve taken, and we do not operate using all-or-nothing terms.

14.01.2022 Happy Mother's Day regardless of what emotions today might bring you To those women who have cared for children despite not having biological relations, to those women who have raised their children on their own, to those who might not feel like celebrating today because perhaps your mum is no longer with us and to those who might still be learning to navigate what's always been a tricky mother-child relationship. Regardless of what today signifies for you, be kind to yourselves today . . . #happymothersday #calm #presence #selfcompassion

11.01.2022 Thanks for sharing @blokespsychology. Depression and anxiety is so much more complex than a chemical imbalance that can be fixed with medication. Don't get me wrong, we've seen many people benefit from medication (and there should be NO STIGMA around that). But these things need to be considered too... how to reconnect with our values and other people. How to reconnect to our hopes and dreams. How to reconnect with our childhoods and possibly grieve what can't be undone. We are supposedly a more connected world, but increasingly polarised and isolated. If you suffer from depression and anxiety, gently consider some of this. What are you needing that you're missing? Perhaps therapy can help . . . #depression #depressionhelp #anxietysupport #therapyis
11.01.2022 At Green Life Psychology, we are contracted to provide services through Open Arms (1 800 011 046). Open Arms is a government funded counselling program available to any past or current military member and their family members. Normally, Ray and I would attend a dawn service together but ANZAC day is a bit different this year. To all the serving members, past and present, and their family members, thank you. To our clients, we feel honoured to be a part of your lives and your healing. Lest we forget.

10.01.2022 Unfortunately for some people, home is not a safe place. There is likely to be an increase of family violence over this time. Here are some resources that can help. If this isn't relevant to you, you can still help! Check in on eachother. Stay calm and follow government restrictions. The more you follow the rules, the more resources including police are available to tend to more urgent matters. If you have information that a child is not safe, you have an obligation to report this to child protection. We all have a responsibility in keeping our communities and families safe. . . . #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #familyviolence #familyviolenceawareness #besafe #helpeachother

07.01.2022 Following the release of George Pell: to the victim survivors of childhood sexual abuse and sexual assault, we see your pain. We believe your disclosures. We acknowledge all the ways the legal system has failed and continues to fail. We've done literally thousands of sessions with children, adolescents and adults who have experienced sexual assault and it never gets easier seeing them be re-traumatised by the legal system. Please know that the outcome of your court case isn't a reflection of you or your worth or your character. It is the reflection of a very unfair, unjust and broken system. We see you and your experience. You are believed. You are worthy. . . . #worthy #selfworth #georgepell #sexualassault #selfcompassion

01.01.2022 With this forced isolation and time to reflect, are there changes you might want to make when you return to "normal"? Perhaps you've realised the need to slow down more? Perhaps you've realised you want to connect with loved ones more often? Perhaps you've realised you've been avoiding something that really needs addressed? Perhaps you've realised the importance of exercise or connecting to nature? Perhaps you've realised the need to set boundaries and say no more often? I would really encourage you all to reflect on this, maybe even journal about it. Are there parts of your previous normal that isn't worth returning to? . . . #normal #whatisnormal #slowdown #selfcompassion #reflection #changes
01.01.2022 This is how some of the most helpful and beneficial sessions start! It's ok to not know for sure what to talk about in session.
